Metro 2033 at 1920x1200 with DX11 Very High Quality and AAA/16xAF (Processor i7-920)

6970 - 39fps avg.

6870 - 29fps avg.

I would not consider either of these playable at these settings and resolution. With 39 fps avg. the minimum fps is going to be dipping well below 30 fps which is unacceptable.

@sollge Crysis is still a VERY demanding game even by today's standards, especially when run with high levels of Anisotropic filtering & Anti-Aliasing. I can still choke my HD6970 big time with this game if I wanted to, and that's a pretty damn quick card. And Crysis was from 2007 FYI....

@alvarg If it's so easy to run, then why can I make it completely choke a $350 graphics card to absolute death?....I just played the very last boss on Crysis Warhead, and you can't tell me you can run that at completely maximum settings with a SINGLE CARD and get anything but "ok" framerates. My 6970 was only in the 30's even while overclocked....Not so spectacular.

@fretwizard420 because ati cards suck lol , my gtx 560 ti was perfectly fine at running maxed, and it also depends on your cpu, amd cpu + amd gfx card = average performance, intel cpu + nvidia gfx card = good performance, lol an i5 2500k is better then the x6 1100t amd there best cpu lol, and the i5 isn't even intels best cpu

@alvarg Really, a 560?? I thought an HD 6970 was a much better card, as they are competing with the 570/580 series right now. And while stock for stock AMD may be a bit behind, my Phenom II easily beats my roommates Core i7 after minimal overclocking. Can't wait til AMD gets off their ass and releases Bulldozer. @fretwizard420 no, actually they dont lol, the best bulldozer chip only just matches the i5 2500k , and thats with both cpus at stock frequency, but see the bulldozer is stocked to 3.6 where the i5 2500k is stocked at 3.3 so if u boosted the i5 2500k to 3.6 it would pass it alot better, because games dont use 8 cores, amd only made an 8 core because they can't make better 4 cores, lol oh and the 6970 beats a gtx 560, but a gtx 560 (TI)<-- version beats a 6970,

@fretwizard420 u can argue all day with you to who is better, but see i5 2500k do give u higher fps in crysis, so thats probably why your 6970 was like stressing, that card shouldn't have any problem running crysis maxed at all, i wouldn't be suprized if it was bottlenecked by your cpu, which it probably would unless u have a amd x4 965 3.4 ghz or a x6 1090t , but the the ivy bridge from intel is coming out soon, so even if a bulldozer does beat the sandy bridge it will be beaten by ivy bridge

@alvarg Wasn't arguing. Thought I was having an intelligent conversation for once....Phenoms (II X4's) are no slouch. I'm not stressing the CPU hardly at all. With almost a 4GHz Black Edition, I barely am using half of this things power. I never see any of my Cores go to 100% usage. I think I just have a different view of what is "acceptable" Performance. While you (and others) may see performance in the 40 fps range as good, or playable, I will always be longing for that 60+ fps no matter what.

@fretwizard420 fair enough, yea you wont max the cores , because its not using all of them, but how effective each core is, kinda determines how much fps you get to a point, i dunno why but for some reason u get like double the fps with an i5 2500k over a 1100t from amd, because its not just how powerful each core is, its how fast they are at loading things and how quick they access memory, where the i5 has double the speed at acessing memory over amd,

I don't have a monster chip by any means and I can get 30+ FPS no matter WHAT I do...Even 8X anti-aliasing with 16X anisotropic filtering with all the game settings on max. Crysis 2 with the DX11 and Hi-Res texture packs runs flawlessly on my 6970. Even with tessellation enabled. Your other hardware might be bottlenecking the card...

@ulkord Good point, but even so, no games/developers are going to advance so far in a matter of a year that this hardware will be a bottleneck. At almost 4.5GHz, this thing chews through games. And when I cook this chip, a Core i5 system that's available for about $750 will be fine for years to come. Developers don't produce games that max out current gen systems, as they still want people with slightly older machines to be able to play. Not everyone has cutting edge hardware, & they know this.

@trrropicccco crysis 2 was stripped down so that they can make it run on a freakin console..but i dont see why they made the PC version a "shitty port" of console version..meh now with the high res pack and dx11 update it looks a lil better IMO but nothing compared to crysis 1 with mods...mods are like steroids for cryengine!

@Wanderon1 consoles are good if u want to play multiplayer with ur friends...i usually dont prefer a laptop for gaming cuz it gets heated up very early..there are special gaming laptops but they are waaaaayyy expensive than a console..i love playing games on PC..i dont have a console but my friend has a ps3 and one in a week or two we all gather up and play at his place..its fun..but i really wish they remove the whole "exclusive game" thing be it PC or xbox or ps3..
