@mahmooddr I agree with you ;) Wang Liqin has this special forehand and backhand technique :) This is the main reason why he's my favourite player in the world :)
3:05 this i such a stupid camera view. its not soccer/football where you can follow the ball with the camera where it goes. table tennis is to fast for that. overall it fuckin annoying and makes me dizzy.
Unless the yuan equals in value to the dollar, table tennis players will never be millionaires. The top player in the world is usually Chinese, and he probably makes around $100K to $200 a year. For the others like Timo Boll, Samsonov, etc.., they probably make a little over $50K, mosttly through endorsements b/c most of the tournaments are won by the Chinese.
@Cinemadaptation Well, he's rich based on Chinese standard. For American standard, he's considered middle-class. You can make $12K (US) and earn a good living in China, let alone $100K. When Wang Liqin was in his prime, he won almost all of the tournaments he competed in, which is about $20K to $30K for 1st place. Including endorsements and league contract, I would say Wang made well over $200K a year, but not more than $300. His compatriots probably made well over $50K, max!
Alomejor Wang Liqin con un par de grados menos en la dureza de su goma, meteria mejor su derecho..creo yo, porque cuando probé la hurricane 3 me parecio durisima, eso si un spin tremendo.
really happy wang liqin won, he has experience but he is growing old, he is 10 years older to ma long, ma long will learn to read games better as he grows....
I think you're misinterpreting what I said. Liqin's backhand has always been great. He's almost never lost a backhand to backhand rally. Even though he doesn't have a strong attack or flip he's always had a great block and drive. His placement has always been strong on the backhand and it shows that he now knows how to use it against Long. Long's backhand has definitely improved as well, but I would say Liqin has him outclassed in comparison. It's obvious in this game even Long thinks so.
@toasty06 tuning is common occurance in TT today. wang liqin didnt cheat because hes just doign what every one else is doing to even out the playing field. in kuwait he tuned it a bit too much, leading to overexpansion of the sponge
YES!!! Wang Liqin... my favorite Chinese player ever. I thought he was getting a little too old to compete, but geez, he's looking good now. Go Liqin!!
@NightcruiserMA I totally agree Liqin is a top player and I don't think he's out for the count. He's been practicing in Ma Long's Group which I think is what has really upped his game. With the speed glue ban he's had so much trouble adjusting to the new players, but I've seen more videos of him practicing with Ma Long which is sure to help him beat the new top seed. I feel another Liqin reign coming :D
I'm really confused in the beginning. I don't know if you are adding the scores' screen, but it keeps saying the other player is winning the point. At one point Ma Long wins a point and then the score says Liqin won the game. Are your edits perhaps out of order?
@ 3:06, when they repeat the previous point, its just stupid from the camera man who keeps moving the camera left and right as if he coulndt catch the action with the camera being still!! lol
It was obvious why Ma Long lost. He didn't play very well for a start, but he kept playing in the diagonals and in the middle all the time! He was lost every time Liquin played a backhand in his forehand, but he kept playing his backhands in Liquin's backhand.
@TheGreve Actually Ma Long has had to do that. Liqin's Backhand has always been great and with his new practice partner (Ma Long) he now has a much better backhand than Ma Long does. Liqin is now familiar with Ma Long's backhand so you can tell Ma wanted to try to get in a forehand rally on the backhand side.
i wouldnt say wang liqins backhand is better than ma longs, ma will win a heck of a lot more points with his than wang will, wang doesnt seem to have the mentality to rip a backhand winner, he's much happier just blocking and punching with his backhand to set up for the forehand and when you have a forehand like his why not?! but his backhand is good enough to be able to stifle ma longs, which is why he was running round, but wangs backhand isnt the killer weapon that ma longs is.
people have had time to analyse the new tt stars. they now know how to play them.
evidence: liu shiwen, was beating everyone when she was on the rise. after people read her game, she was beaten by people (with much more experience than her) like guo yan
same here with wlq (more experience) reading ma longs game.
@takkyuHero it looks like they have the scores backwards for the first game. From 3-4 to 3-5 to 3-6.... all of those points WLQ won, but they showed up on Ma Long's side of the digital scoreboard on the screen. I noticed that too.
I hope this means that Wang Liqin has returned to form. He does seem to be playing better in the past month or two. He has been getting some really good rallies against Xu Xin, and in the National Team Tourney he beat Zhang Jike, which he doesn't usually do. So hopefully this means he has the drive once again
@scylla24 It's the lack of Speed Glue. He doesn't prefer the Tenergy that Ma Long uses or the Sriver that others use on Bryce sponge. He's been training against the younger players more as we've seen some behind the scenes footage of their training sessions, but the problem is that they've all seen his game for a decade. He's hardly ever played against them in comparison to other players like Wang Hao or Ma Lin.
Wang Liqin is the best as yet

Ma Long is a very good player... But he doesnt have a special style.
Has a great smash and backhand... But there isnt any special flavour to it.

I wouldn`t say that Wang Liqin is " back ".
His backhand was just insane good in this tournament. He was a lot more constant the last 3 days.
Ma Long on the other side also hadn`t his best day. When he has a good day, he beats Wang 4:1 or 4:1
but congratulations Wang Liqin ! :D

at first i was expecting a total massacre by ma long, but after reading the comments i predicted the winner.
Still, more than an exceptional Liqin (though he played better than the latest usual) I believe the cause of the result was a "weak" Ma long
