It has been almost 2 1/2 years since this video was posted and much has happened to me since that I will share. Last year in or about May 2008 I was given the opportunity to play for the Dali Lama during the seeds of compassion tour in front of 16,000 young people. The Native American flute has allowed me to perform at cultural, music, Art, and other events in the Seattle area. More recently at the end of 2008 I was diagnosed with cancer, and continued to play while doing chemo, am now ok but.
Thanks Peter! I also took up the NA flute about a year ago for self healing. I have Native family but no one played so I had to teach myself. It is magic! You rock, dude!
Im glad that you were able to to pick up the flute as your medicine, you will find that your songs will heal others also. I am thankful for the gift and the path on which I am at this time in my life. It is helping me put in to perspective what really is important like taking care of myself and those close to your heart such as family. I wish you much happiness on your journey and know the your ancestors are always with you.
Yes in this video Im playing a Cedar flute in the key of G made by my good friends at Stellar Native flutes up here in the Pacific Northwest. I am of Yaqui Indian heritage from my Mother and BerberTribes of Morocco from my Dad. I learned 4 years ago the my Grandfather was also a flute player. I have been playing for 7 years and am self taught, I started playing as a result of going thru a terrible divorce. I play.....from the heart.
I also wanted to say that 7 years after all that even today I still use the native flute as an instrument for healing the heart as I now dealing with personal issues of the heart...I almost quit playing altogether.
To answer the question about what "note" this flute is: Peter is playing a flute tuned to a G minor pentatonic (or 5 note) scale. He has several flutes, each in a different key, and some flutes with two holes so that he can play a duet with himself. As far as I know, most of them are in minor keys. He has played with me on "South On I-5" in the key of B minor.
Peter always bring a breath of fresh air to the Wired & Unplugged open mics and to other venues in this area. While he took up the Native American flutes for his own healing, he brings musical healing to all who hear him. It's a true gift. Thanks for uploading this one.
Most excellent. It must have been great playing for His Holinesss. Sorry to hear about the cancer. I pray that everything will work out for you.
