Sorry for the delay, just read my gmail email after a while. Yes dancing would have warmed me up ... only problem is I would have had to dance all night long :(.. It's a long story.. I kind of changed plans of coming back down in the darkness and stayed the night instead. Didn't want to slip and fall down in the darkness. As for a dance video... it will have to wait till next time :)
i have had a major life change since re-summitting. i think now it is something i will do every five years or so and take my daughter to be sure. she is 20, and in Europe now, after a semester in Germany.
hey that was a shot of the notch to the mountaineers route made to iceberg lake last week when the first snow of the season came in tues 4 and weds 5 of october sent me running outta there iceberg lake to the car in the pitch black with head lamp of course best part was findin the route down the e ledges in the dark didnt mind the snow but was worried about lightening which never came but out over the desert it was going off
@justwired I watched that storm come in on the whitney portal webcam. Looked pretty nasty, the whole thing was greyed over. I read it got down to 11 degrees at 12000 ft.
@thricefelt - I was at the summit on the 20th night.. overnight because it was too late to come down. It was bloody cold... slept on the rock bench in the hut. Came down on the 21st to trail camp (where I was camped out). Came down to portal on the 22nd.
The night at the summit was one life altering experience. It was probably close to 0 degrees at the top with howling wind and no proper warm clothing.. no sleeping bag.. nothing.. Sorry could not do the dance - too cold!!
@nalinw1 dancing would have warmed you up, no? it was freezing in summer, i couldnt imagine doing it in winter. and why the heck were you up there with no sleeping bag?? get to the top to late?
i am going back ina couple weeks - will be happy if i can raise my hands over my head after summiting. your joy is inspiring. yu are obviously in good shape, how long were you on the trail ?
caitlin, i took 5 hours to summit from Guitar lake, and hour at the summit, and then over seven hours down to the portal, very hard at the end to keep my feet under me - with a pack and all, but it was a life enhancing experience. It was just pure blue and so clear on Sep 22 -
Okay.....that was LAST year. Are you going to dance on Whitney again this year? We're trying to get our act together, songs, etc. Not sure though, the guys can't agree on a song!!!! Lots of luck.
Thanks for this really enjoyable posting (I saw it on the Mount Whitney Board.) John Muir wrote that one one particularly cold night in the Sierra he kept warm by dancing all night under the stars. I'd love to see his reaction to your happy and spirited.moves!
@caitlinjacquelyn, let me rephrase - this goes to the one with the backpack.. i do see your clip 4 times a day, and am in love not only with the music, but very much with you as well. When are you coming to Tel Aviv to dance on the beach, I'll guide you through town ;) (btw what's your name?)
ha! everybody thought we were crazy, what you don't see are the 25 people behind the camera watching us and shaking their heads! it was a blast though! and we danced all the way down the trail crest!
Yes, you are becoming quite a hit on the hiking site. Must admit, I don't move that well at 14,507 feet. Did you get all that energy by drinking a coffee at the Starbucks on the summit:-)
