oh boy another pointless debate as to who's better. Bon Iver composed the piece so he has a greater connection to it. He is also older, more experienced, and probably wiser. The fact that he can impart these nuances into his song gives his version more authority and greater virtuousity. Birdy sings the song exactly as an exceptiontionally talented 15 year old would. More emotionally fragile, and with less depth. She is after all 15. Her youth is not her fault. Her talent is her achievement.

Okay, I'll sum this up: Clearly, this original has some merit, or it wouldn't have been as well covered by talented artists as it has been. As well, Birdy has a fantastic voice, and her cover of Skinny Love is completely different from the original, which is often the best kind of cover. Loving one doesn't require hating the other.
