I often wonder (being a bit of an enthusiast) why in at least some of the missions, small 'intercept or pick-up boats' weren't utilised in the final recovery of the flight crew, rather than the use of helo's.
I'm guessing that it may have to do with the 'sterile' process (in early Apollo missions?)
