That's what I want for the broncos now..for them to be just like the 97-98 broncos, I want the next John elway at qb and the next Terrell Davis at rb. Are those pretty big orders? Yep they are but that's what it takes to be great
This guy was awesome!! had it not been him showing up late in Elways career the Broncos dont win two super bowls in a Row especially againts a Packers team who was on the verge of repeating in 97. Davis was diamond in the rough an the Bronco's flourished.
for as tom brady being a good QB isnt even a argument.. i agree he is a system qb but here let me ask you this.. does that mean Michael Jordan sucked..because he played in the triangle offense.. which has proven to work with or without him..( KOBE) NO.. good coaching creates a system that works for their star which is tom brady.. tom makes awesome throws and also.. is a leader.. you can hate him all you want.. but the man is a general on the field..oh by the way 5000 yards 12011
To say Terrell Davis was only good because of his system is a disgrace to football..and
is really sad.. due to injuries he had only four good seasons.. but had two super bowls.. one was over 2000.. yard which if you look at today's leader in rushing yards its 1600 yards... terrell davis dominated the post season with 7 consecutive 100 yard rushing games which took the broncos to 7-0.. to say he wasnt good.. is just stupid and just trying to stir an argument up..
okay first off all... let me clear all this ignorance up....Davis and Emmitt Smith are tied for the most 100-plus postseason rushing games in NFL history. Davis got his seven 100-yarders in eight playoff games. Smith got his seven century marks in 17 playoff games. Nine more games than T.D....Davis also had four consecutive, 1,000-yard rushing seasons, a 2,000-yard season and a league MVP. So there’s more to consider than just his unequalled postseason success.
E. Smith played with arguably the most dominant O-line EVER, yet people never seem to mention that when they list him as "one of the greatest RBs ever".
TD was the perfect RB for that zone-blocking scheme. Faulting him for that and calling him a "system player" would by like saying DeMarcus Ware is a great pass-rusher just because he plays in a 3-4.
@QBDogKiller Thats true Smith played with maybe best O-line unit. Other RBs had success in that system. There are great pass rushers in 4-3.Babin this year was best who plays for 4-3 Eagles. Also that guy for Giants 4-3.Piere Paul. That system helped the aging Elway.I hate it when media tries to hide it for bullshit QBs.Elway was one of best. But by time Shanahan came he was declining.I remember years ago on ESPN they said Brady is system QB.Which is true.ESPN never showed again.I wish I taped it
If Brady is indeed a system player, why haven't teams figured him out like Ryan Fitz. who is a true system QB for Buffalo???
Brady's style of play: read the defense, move well in the pocket, quick precise passes hitting receivers in stride - is what makes him successful, not a "system".
Defenses know what he's going to do, yet can't stop him. If he was a system player, teams would have caught up him years ago.
@QBDogKiller Brady plays for cheating team.NFL is soft and watered down.Rigged too.Even bullshit ESPN admitted that.Manning too is favored.Go to youtube video"Pussification of Football". "Oh yeah that bum Michigan QB that did nothing in NFL" Thats what people would say.NFL got soft since late 1990's to help QBs like a Brady
@QBDogKiller Matt Cassell? Remember? Brady is system QB.And that bitch Brady is lucky how soft NFL was gettting since late 1990's.He's smart I give you that but he can't take a hit.Fitzpatrick is even smarter.Believe me,Belicheck can make him too. This is proven in past.A QB looks bad on one team but looks way better on a Good team.NFL is too soft.Brady should be done
He was the best player in 2 super bowl wining teams.

I think Sterling Sharpe should be a hall of famer. He put up numbers that no receiver was putting up at the time. I can remember he was catching 90 to 100 catches a year.
I think Sterling Sharpe is the 3rd best receiver i'v ever seen behind Rice and MIchael Irvin.
first of all why is he so good yes hes one of the few running backs to get 2000 yards but if he is so good as evry one says he is why does he not hold the most yards per carry (wich is 5.4 yards) held by bo jackson why did he not beat the all time rushing record anyone can block yes it can be hard but about evry one in football ends up blocking so calm ur pantys look up tony dorrsett emmitt smith bo jackson jim brown walter payton gale sayers and then tell me wich is best no hating on him k geez
Olandis Gary, Mike Anderson, Reuben Droughns, Terrell Davis. None of those guys did jack anywhere else. That should tell you all you need to know. That O-line was great, those backs were all decent at best. Terrell Davis is highly overrated.
@BigAlbinoDonky I agree that the Bronco's O-line was proven by all the rushing yards they had through various running backs, but when I look and compare some of the names you have there with Davis, yards, footage, Davis was different than these guys. I am not saying he is the best of all time, like the title showing "finally showing the best" However, I was just making a top ten list of all time PRO rb's, I actually had Davis at #8. It's a shocker, but I just view him that way.....
He was a damn good running back, I'll give him that, but it's just a shame he didn't last another three or four years injury free. He was a monster to watch.

I really could care less about AP, Chris Johnson, MJD, or Steven Jackson. They are very good, but that isn't my point.
@ajb8487 Little Danny Woodead is interesting, but he is a specialty player in a system that takes advantage of his skills. I hope Mark Ingram or someone new stands out.

people forget terrell davis didnt stop playing football because he wasnt good anymore it was that migrane issue he always had during games, people forget he ran wit his eyes closed alot
veryslyfox, you're such a deusch. Beat it. Terrell Davis would kick your ass. Who do you think is best? Emmitt Smith? Emmitt Smith sucks and so do you.
@PughBear23 Emmitt was a product of a system... he had one of the best offensive lines of the 90's, and talent all around him to distract potential defenders from focusing on him. Put him on the Lions in the 90's or the Buccaneers, and Emmitt would be lucky to even break 1000 yards most seasons.
I'm sorry veryslyfox, but it's obvious that you were not around or was not watching football back when Terrell Davis played. If you had watched this guy play, you would understand. These highlight reels don't do him justice. That guy was friggin awesome at everything. His stiff arm was unrivaled. His legs were like churning pistons. No one could stop this guy, it was sick. First back to crest over 2000 yards in a season. I watched that game, it was glorious. Don't hate on TD like that man.
hmmph...good point....RB's are always tested in a sprint from a stop.....but if they all jog......a running start...then test acceleration....'breakaway accerelation'
Terrell Davis is an awesome pass blocker, check the super bowl against the packers where elway converts a major 1st down late in the game to Ed Mccaferty. Terrell Davis has such a key block there, I admire that play and I am a steeler fan
And for the record, I am a true long-time Broncos fan. I was at Mile High for every home game (regular season and playoffs) during John Elway's career and beyond. I have also attended almost every home game since Invesco opened.
Davis is arguably the best playoff running back in NFL history. 8 career playoff games: 1,140 yards, 204 carries, & 12 TD's. Davis dominated with 581 yards rushing in 97 and 468 yards in 98. A record three rushing TD's in SB32, and Super Bowl MVP. Davis played the 1997 Super Bowl with a terrible migraine headache. In the 1997 playoffs, Davis scored 48 points, an all-time record until 2006. Davis also holds the playoff record with seven straight 100 yard rushing games
The bottom line is that he was unluckly and sustained a serious career ending injury in 1999. It's not his fault Bubby Brister threw a horrible interception and he busted his ass trying to make a tackle. That sucks, but it does not diminish his impact on the NFL. The hall-of-fame is for great players, and he is absolutely a great all-time NFL back. Nowhere is it written that you have to play for 15 seasons or rush for 10,000 yards to make it to the hall of fame.
It takes a hall of fame caliber back to truly dominate the league for any stretch of time. For 4 years, he was the best back in football. And he is statistically one of the greatest running backs in post season history as far as yards gained, 100 yard games, and touchdowns.
TD is one of only a very few running backs in the history of the nfl who have won a rushing title, super bowl MVP, and league MVP. Not to mention he is one of just 6 players who have rushed for 2000 yards. Any player who plays long enough can rack up humongous numbers (See Curtis Martin, Edgerrin James, Fred Taylor and Corey Dillon. All of these guys rank in the top 20 of rushing yards all time, and everyone would agree they are just better than average.)
i actually have 2 vhs videos commemorating the broncos' back-to-back super bowl seasons, and those 2 vhs tapes have a lot of footage showing terrell davis running with the camera angle from the sidelines somewhere else down on the field - and not slowed down for viewer ease of watching. you can't get a sense of how hard he hit the hole and just how deceptively explosive he was until u get a sideline view of him running
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
There are several things that make a football player "great". Durability is one them. That's why at best he was just above average... He's in the same league as the Jamal Andersons. Had a few good years and that's all. Wasn't close to being great
@veryslyfox Jamal Anderson was never league MVP, never won two super bowls and wasn't super bowl MVP. Terrell Davis has the highest 100 yard game rushing streak in the playoffs at 7 and the most yards per carry in the playoffs as well. He is also tied for third with highest career playoff touchdowns at 12 in just 8 playoff games. While he was healthy, he arguably had the biggest impact on the NFL of any player. Jamal Anderson is not even close, although Anderson was a hell of a back too.
@veryslyfox i can see that you know nothing about football. i bet you just were a loser when you were in school, and know you think you know everything about football. let me ask you something, stupid: how many broncos games did you watch during terrell davis's time with the broncos? i bet not even one, maybe both of the superbowls, and that is it. you are just a punk who knows nothing. take your stupid comments to the toilet, , put them in, get them out and then eat them.
@veryslyfox Every great runningback only have a few great years. Look at Bo Jackson, Earl Campbell, almost every runningback that loves to initiate contact. Only a few like Barry Sanders manage to survive because they could avoid contact.
As a lifelong broncos fan, we suffered through 4 SB losses...the first i expected, but the next three were devistating. I loved john elway..but i knew he needed a great running back to balance the passing attack as well as a good defense. When TD showed up...i knew his rookie year after he rushed for over 1400 yrds..that we had what we needed. in the next two years, the defense improved dramatically...then, surprise surprise....not only one SB VICTORY, but two in a row. thank u TD..U R THE MAN!
terrel davis is one of the best backs off all time, not because of the stats but the impact he made on the field and off the field and contributing to his team all the way
Emmit smith is what his team needed, sure he's not the best but people are talking about what would happen if barry or some other good back would do on the cowboys, they would do good but Emmit played through injuries and was a durable back and carried the ball 340 times EVERY season that in it self regardless of yards is amazing
When I think about what I love about the NFL and what I think is missing when I watch games now is seeing awesome RB play - 1 dude running through, around, and past 11 people trying to stop him.
Guys like TD, Walter Payton, Emmit, Bo, Riggo making truly inspiring, breakaway runs.
yeah rod smith, best undrafted free agent of all time and ed mccaffrey at WR who was like the original tall, sure handed guy...shannon sharpe one of the best TE's ever...neil smith, steve atwater, bill romanowski on defense AND darrien gordon on special teams, people forget about that. And I was only 8 back then haha. I miss that team man, they were stacked and TD was my idol...all my little league jerseys are number 30 lol
i would have to agree considering TD is one of 6-7 backs ever to go over 2000 in a season and elway went to three superbowls before td and didnt earn any wins until td
You got to love guys who play like him. I remember watching Clinton Portis play for Denver thinking he was the second coming of TD. And then he got traded to the Redskins and got his whole career fucked up.
I play tackle football myself, Outside Linebacker, if i ever was on a pro team when TD was still in the league, and i had to play dem Broncos. I would be so damn scared i think i might piss myself. Terrell has been a figure i have looked up to sense i was little, he was the best damn RB ever!
The one thing about Davis, along with Emmitt Smith and Walter Peyton (for the second half of his career anyways) was that they had good to outstanding offensive lines in front of them. Barry Sanders will always be my favorite and my pick for best RB ever since he carried the whole lions offense. Who remembers who the QB was for Detroit when Barry was there? I sure don't. But don't get me wrong, TD was pretty spectacular as well.
The voters need to take a serious look at TDs credentials for the Hall of Fame

If Brady was indeed a "system QB", the Patriots would have never given him a 4-year $72 million extension.
They would have gone the cheaper route and signed someone like Kyle Orton, a true system QB.
Brady is not the most physically gifted QB out there but his command of the offense and ability to dissect defenses is unmatched.

TD was a fucking beast.
2,000 yard-rusher, league MVP, Super Bowl MVP...
Without him, the Broncos don't win back-to-back championships in '97 & '98.
If it wasn't for that nasty injury that ended his career early he would have passed 12,000 career rush yards easily.
I just have one question:

@DanKelso
What hurts Sharpe is the belief out there that somehow Brett Favre "made Sterling look great" which is completely moronic.
Imo, Sharpe and Davis need to be in the Hall because they were DOMINANT. If Sayers can get in with 5 great years, why can't those 2???
Makes no sense...

Terrell Davis did it all. Most backs spend a career accomplishing what TD did in basically 4 years. That man belongs in the Hall. Period.

veryslyfox, you're such a deusch. Beat it. Terrell Davis would kick your ass. Who do you think is best? Emmitt Smith? Emmitt Smith sucks and so do you.
deadconstitution 1 year ago
@deadconstitution emmitt is tha best so you get ova it TD wasnt built 4 this..
PughBear23 1 year ago
@PughBear23 Emmitt was a product of a system... he had one of the best offensive lines of the 90's, and talent all around him to distract potential defenders from focusing on him. Put him on the Lions in the 90's or the Buccaneers, and Emmitt would be lucky to even break 1000 yards most seasons.
partyman6666 1 year ago
TD was a monster, 2000 yard season should be put up with a full highlight reel for that season alone ASAP
gocelts34n7 1 year ago
I'm sorry veryslyfox, but it's obvious that you were not around or was not watching football back when Terrell Davis played. If you had watched this guy play, you would understand. These highlight reels don't do him justice. That guy was friggin awesome at everything. His stiff arm was unrivaled. His legs were like churning pistons. No one could stop this guy, it was sick. First back to crest over 2000 yards in a season. I watched that game, it was glorious. Don't hate on TD like that man.

if the nfl included postseason stats in final season stats mr Davis would have the most rushing yards in a single season in 98
denverj82398 1 year ago
Terrell Davis is an awesome pass blocker, check the super bowl against the packers where elway converts a major 1st down late in the game to Ed Mccaferty. Terrell Davis has such a key block there, I admire that play and I am a steeler fan

And for the record, I am a true long-time Broncos fan. I was at Mile High for every home game (regular season and playoffs) during John Elway's career and beyond. I have also attended almost every home game since Invesco opened.
Go Broncos!!!
cjkrier 1 year ago
Davis is arguably the best playoff running back in NFL history. 8 career playoff games: 1,140 yards, 204 carries, & 12 TD's. Davis dominated with 581 yards rushing in 97 and 468 yards in 98. A record three rushing TD's in SB32, and Super Bowl MVP. Davis played the 1997 Super Bowl with a terrible migraine headache. In the 1997 playoffs, Davis scored 48 points, an all-time record until 2006. Davis also holds the playoff record with seven straight 100 yard rushing games
cjkrier 1 year ago
The bottom line is that he was unluckly and sustained a serious career ending injury in 1999. It's not his fault Bubby Brister threw a horrible interception and he busted his ass trying to make a tackle. That sucks, but it does not diminish his impact on the NFL. The hall-of-fame is for great players, and he is absolutely a great all-time NFL back. Nowhere is it written that you have to play for 15 seasons or rush for 10,000 yards to make it to the hall of fame.
cjkrier 1 year ago
It takes a hall of fame caliber back to truly dominate the league for any stretch of time. For 4 years, he was the best back in football. And he is statistically one of the greatest running backs in post season history as far as yards gained, 100 yard games, and touchdowns.
cjkrier 1 year ago
Verslyfox is horribly wrong.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
There are several things that make a football player "great". Durability is one them. That's why at best he was just above average... He's in the same league as the Jamal Andersons. Had a few good years and that's all. Wasn't close to being great
veryslyfox 1 year ago
@veryslyfox Jamal Anderson was never league MVP, never won two super bowls and wasn't super bowl MVP. Terrell Davis has the highest 100 yard game rushing streak in the playoffs at 7 and the most yards per carry in the playoffs as well. He is also tied for third with highest career playoff touchdowns at 12 in just 8 playoff games. While he was healthy, he arguably had the biggest impact on the NFL of any player. Jamal Anderson is not even close, although Anderson was a hell of a back too.
grejustin 1 year ago 31
@veryslyfox i can see that you know nothing about football. i bet you just were a loser when you were in school, and know you think you know everything about football. let me ask you something, stupid: how many broncos games did you watch during terrell davis's time with the broncos? i bet not even one, maybe both of the superbowls, and that is it. you are just a punk who knows nothing. take your stupid comments to the toilet, , put them in, get them out and then eat them.

I play tackle football myself, Outside Linebacker, if i ever was on a pro team when TD was still in the league, and i had to play dem Broncos. I would be so damn scared i think i might piss myself. Terrell has been a figure i have looked up to sense i was little, he was the best damn RB ever!
lebezuleben202 2 years ago 3
The one thing about Davis, along with Emmitt Smith and Walter Peyton (for the second half of his career anyways) was that they had good to outstanding offensive lines in front of them. Barry Sanders will always be my favorite and my pick for best RB ever since he carried the whole lions offense. Who remembers who the QB was for Detroit when Barry was there? I sure don't. But don't get me wrong, TD was pretty spectacular as well.
