@infernoize He was allegedly forced out because Wenger chose Gallas over him as captain. That left Gilberto as a substitute instead of starting captain - so he left to get first-team football.

Basically forcing Gilberto to leave was probably the biggest mistake of Arsene's managerial career. Its been 4 years since he left us and he still makes the starting lineup for the Brazilian national team. Great DM who loved playing for Arsenal.
