i can't bend my neck forward and backwards because there's something wrong with my back right now that wont let me look down or bend my neck too far back. so do you have to bend your neck or can you just keep the neck still and just do high to low notes while lip trilling?
No need to lip roll, it's not your lips which need training, it's your vocal chords and the whole set of muscles inside and around your larynx and pharynx.
May sound stupid but these exercises really work! If you're really a singer and need stamina it helps tremendously. I do this before any gig and I have a ton more stamina and vocal strength.

@Mapanatl I'm a final year medical student: we get taught on acid base problems as they are important. I have reassessed what I said and have verified I am correct.
However, you shouldn't just take my word on it a simple 'googling' will get you the same results as what i have been saying here. If you google 'hyperventilation carbon dioxide.'
Wikipedia has a simple and interesting article.

PLEASE HELP! Can you give me a regimen for this? I train by myself and I have no mentor, so I don't know how to organize the exercises to get the maximum effect. I feel I am gravely without direction here, and I want to improve so much. I hope you wil be kind enough to advice me. Thanks in advance!
Hi - I find that starting the lip vibration with 'p', 't', 'd' or 'b' actually introduces mild tension to the lips, jaw and tongue root - which stiffen muscles around the larynx and vocal cords, and reduces mouth resonance. Also, the breath flow tends to come from the middle of the body and not abdominal muscles. Start with airflow only. You can find out more at my channel (click on my name link to the left). All the best, Alexander
The reason why you shouldn't be moving your neck up and down with the lips trills because you must keep your column also known as the airway, open, it's not "safe" for your vocal folds to be kept in such small space and also more air may be needed to keep a natural flow of the sound you are distributing from your vocal folds and partialy blocking the air way is not supporting your voice.
Este exercícios são indicados pela fonoaudiologia moderna, mas são completamente ineficazes para aquecer a voz para o canto. Há um tremendo equívoco aqui.
@loombaron She is clearly not a native English speaker, but might have learned British English. He r English is really good! Odds are she has a Scandinavian background.
When you breath deeply you blow off carbon dioxide(co2) - this makes your blood more alkaline (as co2 is an acidic gas) - this is what is making you feel dizzy. It is the same as what happens when people have a panic attack and why you should treat panic attacks with a paper bag as this increases the concentration of CO2 and returns your blood level to normal. Tried to make explianation as simple as possible, let me now if you still don't understand! xYz
I've never heard of that... that's nice, thank you for such a thorough explanation. And yes, it was simple enough, at least for me, even though I'm not the one who asked.
deep breaths OXYGENATE your blood more. and thus become ACIDOTIC.
same when you Hyperventilate you become Acidotic (and You do get dizzy and even a head pain)
People who are on a life-support Ventilator get their blood Ph Read constantly as a means to asses Blood Oxygen concentration (Pulse Oxymetry is only a Ball-park assessment) pO2
if i warm up without eat, usually i get a little dizzy (is not that i gotta "eat everytime i would warm up", but, i need to have something in my stomach).
I don't get why some people say it looks funny. The lip roll is the easiest and simplest way to warm up your vocal cords. Make sure your throat vibrates and not your face. If your nose is vibrating means you're doing it wrongly.
thank you for posting this. I am a rusty high school vocal coach, and was searching for new ideas (and basically a refresher course on how to explain the process) and happy to have found your videos.

Why does everyone always say Diaphrgm support?? It doesn't support its only a muscle of inhalation, exhalation is what matters and the abdomens are the ones that support the voice on exhalation.
The diaphragm supports the rate of exhalation and the intercostal muscles (between the ribs)support the control of the diaphragm. The upper abdominal muscles will naturally contract, however, they are not altogether responsible for air control. When you have the diaphragm and intercostal muscles working together in good partnership, they are also a wonderful tool for adjusting your volume, but this takes time and practice.
Uh....no! Everything you just said is total BS. Go study the human respatory system and then read what you just wrote. Meaningless!!! You're probably not a good singer.
I have qualifications both medically and musically that quantify what I have stated. Your manners and level of education are questionable however, and any future ignorance will be totally ignored. PS...spellcheck - respiratory. God bless you...
OMG! instead, I pray for the poor saps that pay you to teach them, if anyone is do dum. Maybe you've noticed their progression from bad to worst hahahah Get your ass back to school cause IT Tech (aka school for dummies) Doesn't count as real qualification honey.
I don't need to know you, to know, you don't know squat. How about you learn something about the subject being discuss at hand and then come back and try to have an intellectual conversation and not just cup outs. Like Feebeedee who says she has credentials but can't defend her arguments.
here's the thing - your diaphragm acts as a mechanism to drop your lower organs so your chest can expand and the lungs can fill fully. As you compress the abs you force the diaphragm to ascend - this is how you control the amount of air you exhale out of the lungs.
The diaphragm acts as a kind of bellow - letting air in and pushing air out. Control the diaphragm and you control your breath.
feebeedee- You said it in a typical "I've read lots of books" manner which most people don't understand
Yyour comment towards me was not necessary. Yes, I've read lots of books, but that is beside the point. Practical application has also played a significant part in my education. As the diaphragm flattens out, its mechanism is not to "drop your lower organs". It is the flattening out of the diaphragm that causes the ribs to expand, thereby increasing the volume. Thanks for taking the time to contribute, that's how we all learn.
my point was simply this - the "trouble" with most comments by "singers" and "teachers" here on YouTube usually have one of two flaws.
1. they're either painfully uneducated OR
2. they are too educated and can only speak in terms to oblique for beginners to understand. To much "textbook speak",terminology etc. It confuses the student. They want simple, easy to understand concepts and explanations.
Not saying you're incorrect but you wording is "too book-sih" for most beginners to grasp.
I meant to say "it allows your lower organs to drop" so the chest can expand fully. Thereby the bottom 2/3 of your lungs can fill fully. This is what we call "Maximum breath potential".
But in truth your diaphragm does push your stomach down when it descends
Very useful...nice accent too!

here's the thing - your diaphragm acts as a mechanism to drop your lower organs so your chest can expand and the lungs can fill fully.

Thank you. Why don't you add some more lessons? This one's very useful. I'm going to check the second one now. Kiss.
