The thing is when an attacker (Bale) is going to run past a defender (Maicon) then you are bound to run faster running forwards (Bale) than backwards (Maicon). In would love to see them run against each other it would be close but Bale is a wonderful player but he only looks fast against players who are defending because he get to full running speed at 10 meters (receiving the ball at the halfway line to the right back).

@junselito lets be honest, in terms of defensive plays, maicon still is shoulders above bale in terms of defensive work, maicon is physically stronger, his positioning is excellent, he always mark his opponents but problem with maicon is his speed and pace is not the best ever, like in this case Bale. Bale has poor defensive technique ironically he played mainly as a left back before this. But his key attributes is Bale can dribble fast, chase a loose ball, and definitely is a deadly crosser.
