In 43 years I've been on this earth the only woman I've ever cried in front of was my grandmother. I was about 14 or 15 years old and there were some overwhelming emotional reasons. It depends on the severity and the mental health issues that result from it, of course. And when I say that one should be able to cry, I mean within reason. To finish off, I think at the root of this is NOT whether or not crying is okay, but to what degree men "should" reveal their vulnerability to their partner. I think we can both agree that as long as we don't feel repressed or pressured by our partner into hiding or letting out our emotions, then that's what's important. Not whether or not our eyes leak.

I hope likewise with your relationship. I agree that in some cases self control builds character, but not all control is positive. For example, one might call control over one's emotions synonymous to stunting, hindering or repressing emotions. It depends on the severity and the mental health issues that result from it, of course. And when I say that one should be able to cry, I mean within reason. Some cry as a defense mechanism or to manipulate, and that's different.

To finish off, I think at the root of this is NOT whether or not crying is okay, but to what degree men "should" reveal their vulnerability to their partner. I think we can both agree that as long as we don't feel repressed or pressured by our partner into hiding or letting out our emotions, then that's what's important. Not whether or not our eyes leak.
