  • Holy shit!!! :O

  • poor guy

  • Indeed, the weight of the average (tailored to fit) suit of armour is half as light as the combat gear of the modern marine. If a knight couldn't do pushups, forward rolls, sprints etc, he was considered unfit.

  • @Grymbaldknight

Combat weight is used up to contact with the enemy. Any officer that orders men into battle with full gear is a twat and will loose men unnecessarily.

  • @scylaros thats true, but beside the point. medieval plate armour is not nearly as heavy as many people believe, and barely impeded agility and movement at all; it would be fairly worthless armour if you were a sitting duck the minute you fell over.

  • I don't think most people realize how comfortable and easy to move in a good suit of plate is.

My family history was a lot of medieval warfare. They were knights and men at arms. My family has always been quite enthusiastic about our heritage, so I've known a lot about it since I was a kid.

But wasn't really interested till an argument with a history teacher about how much the suff weighed. (he was still wrong, even though I gave up in the end)

  • @nivarion yea, teachers are always right, there's just no talking to those people.

  • how much does it weigh

  • around 60-80 lbs, not too bad

  • medieval pushups, niceee xD

  • Soldknechte?

  • Tatsächlich, die Soldknechte tragen Rot-schwarz.

Aber zu denen gehöhre ich nicht, ich trage mal diese mal jene Heraldische Farbe^^

  • no chain mail ausberg and coif, too easy

  • thump, thump, thump, thump ;P

  • Were is this at? At your school?

  • hokyshit! its you!

hey, I'm watching you on devart!

    .D

  • Cool, where are you on Devart?

  • itsa me! Dragonsdale!

  • nice demonstration--a lot of people forget to use basic math and realize that today's average US marine carries TWICE as much weight as an armored knight would in the old days.

If today's modern soldiers can fight in 150 pounds, why couldn't the knights fight in 75 back in the day?

  • exactly

  • You speaketh of mathematics, but with matematics comes physics and dexterity. Its not the weight, its how you can move. Modern soilders dont fight with 150lbs on then its what they bring with them, 1st thing they do it dump what they dont need, pick up the weapon and shoot. Kill, or be killed, last thing you want is a "weight" around you !

Patents of Nobility can be provided.....

  • That and the weight carried by a modern soldier is mostly hanging from the shoulders, while plate armour is carried pretty much evenly...

  • also medieval warriors fought hand to hand which requires a hell of a lot more energy than shooting

  • @tiamat9989 the knights clearly could i dont think people are saying they can't just thats its a lot of weight to carry around, im no military expert but the majority of fighting nowadays is done in running and gunning not a whole lot of hand to hand, but all a knight did was charge in and fight hand to hand and i dont mean to offend but if you havent played contact sports such as rugby you wouldnt know that the running is the relaxing and easy part :) just my thoughts on the topic

  • @Obediah17

You make a good point there, actually.

In the british series "weapons that made britain" it shows a fairly fit young man be able to fight for about 2-3 minutes straight before burning out. Running and swinging a sword are quite different!

But I think the myth addressed in this video was primarily a 19th century fabrication about knights being stuck on the ground if they fell, being put on their horse with a crane, etc etc that now, I think, is probably a dead myth already. ;-)

  • @tiamat9989 Well, granting that 120 pounds of that pack is rigged to be dropped with two buckles and combat itself carried with thirty pounds of ammo and grenades on their belt... sure. But I absolutely agree, nothing stops a man in good plate armor from doing cartwheels if he feels so inclined.

  • @tiamat9989 because they didn't have the nutrition body mass or the skill because most knights were peasants hired to put there life on the line for a large sum of money.

  • @Gallowmere7294 knights were skilled warriors trained from a young age in the martial arts of sword fighting and shield tactics. I personally wouldn't pay an unskilled "peasant" to protect my town, home, family. that would be like taking a bum off the street putting him the military and calling him a S.E.A.L or Ranger or some sort of spec ops. could you see a 6 man unit of bums going in to take out osama bin ladin?

  • @Gallowmere7294 Peasants and Knights were two different social classes...

  • @tiamat9989 They fight with guns that are heavy but Long range and effortless to shoot with. Swinging a melee weapon (Weighing anywhere from ten to twenty pounds) around at close range is a bit more difficult.

  • roflmao nice

  • Und jetzt einarmig!

  • bahaha...

    idiot..

    that stuff is heavy as
