its different from BJJ. any one of these guys would get there asses submitted in a pure grappeling match...you cant compare the two just because they have similar names, BJJ is a branch of jujitsu, just like jujitsu is a branch of judo, just like judo is a branchof marital arts in general. dont be such ignorant trolls lol they are different art forms
I understand this. I trained with a JJJ black belt. He said that he was at our BJJ club because he wanted to improve his ground game.
He taught us a bit of standup, and to be honest it didn't come across as effective.
The techniques look nice, but in a real fight, the first thing to go is fine motor control. You need exaggerated, simple, and effective techniques. Not fancy arm waving techniques that require reaction times that almost no one is capable of.
This is real jujitsu. BJJ is an excellent art but has it flaws ie bad stand up. It also reinvents the wheel, ie the omoplata and the twister for example. Both techniques have long been practised in jujitsu. Each art is a product of its time and equally valid. Without the older arts BJJ, MMA NHB wouldn't exist, they too will become dated, the fundamental principles however are the same. Style based arrogance is immature and ignorant. Neither is real combat, they have referees. Real fights don't.
In a large part of the world the word jiujitsu also refers to traditional japanese jujitsu. Jiujitsu and jujitsu are basicly the same thing. People should use the word "brazilian jiujitsu" if they are referring to BJJ to avoid confusion.
I practice Brazilian jiu jitsu- i'm a Nova Uniao Competitor. I can say this has only a bit of jiu jitsu. I saw only the traumatic part of the art. The main part wicht is guard, arm bars and stuff. i saw it very few.
It is thought that martial arts originated in India and worked it's way to China, then thought to have worked it's way in many forms over to Japan. Though you call it Karate & Judo Bullshit, you'll find that it's a battlefield martial art designed to help warriors defeat opponents during the feudal era when warriors lost their swords. Their armour was heavy and cumbersome so required a style to deal with it hence Jiu-Jitsu. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was taught in Brazil by a Japanese master.
Most people think of Jiu-Jitsu as in terms of BJJ and MMA. They don't understand the difference between full contact competition and point competition.
If there was no Judo or Karate, there would be no Japanese Jiu Jitsu and without that, there would be no BJJ. And brazillians are quite fortunate that a Japanese master decided to head over there in the first place.
Studio Sport rules! lol, anyway this is so different from bjj competitions, i hardly see any grappling ... helaas, When I move back to Holland I'll introduce you to some real grappling straight from SoCal!
Actually, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu developed from Judo. JJJ and BJJ are vastly different martial arts. I respect Japanese Jiu Jitsu, but it produces a very different fighter than BJJ. Despite using many of the same techniques, the fact that BJJ practitioners train only to grapple and spar with resisting opponents on a daily basis makes for much better grapplers. And though I hate to generalize anything, I think grappling has proved to be probably the most dominating form of martial art out there.
yeah, I thought so too, until I found out it was developped by a Judo master with the Gracie's, then the Gracie's went on to hone the new system (it was called Brazilian Jiu Jistu apparently because at the time there was little distinction between Judo and Jiu-Jitsu, therefore it became known as BJJ).
i read the gracies were trained in japanese jiu jitsu. so from what you've said brazilian jiu jitsu was created from the ground techniques of japanese jiu jitsu and techinques from judo?
When Kano started his form of Judo, he challenged other Jujitsu masters in a safe competition, upon which Judo was founded. The only school to allegedly defeat Kanos Judo was a ground based Jujitsu fighting style, I forget the name, possibly the forerunner of BJJ. Consequently Kano included newaza (ground fighting) in his syllabus.
Except that Judo came from JJJ, which is why I said BJJ came from JJJ. A lot of BJJ is based around having rules and sport fighting. A good JJJ school teaches groundwork, but also includes many other forms of attack and defense because it is based on an actual military art used by the samurai. Some will say it had roots elsewhere as well, but for JJJ specifically, it was designed for combat situations. However, in sport, you cannot just go snap a wrist, or punching someone's throat to set a move
Have you ever watched a karate tournament? In training, they teach a lot of fancy blocks. But in the actual tournaments it's not uncommon to see competitors just trade punches and kicks, blocking maybe 1 out of 10 attacks.
BJJ is used by multiple militaries, including the US btw.
Of course, you can always find some useful move in any art, but JJJ was used as combat training for the samurai. Meaning that was their fighting. The actual point I was making is that JJJ is used for a variety of situations because real fights are much more dynamic then two guys in a ring.
"Was" used in combat. JJJ is in the same boat as Judo and BJJ now.
BJJ took all the effective ground elements from Judo (which took the most effective throws, trips, and ground elements from JJJ) and incorporated them into a single system (that has evolved to surpass Judo and JJJ on the ground).
I have to say that I've never seen a street fight that is as dynamic as a mixed martial arts fight.
How many street thugs practice boxing, muay thai, brazilian jiu jitsu, and wrestling 6 hours a day?
You're talking out of your ass. Go read an article, any article on the origins of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Mtsuyo Maeda was a Kodokan Judoka. He emmigrated to Brazil and taught all that he knew to the Gracies. The Gracies took the techniques that he gave them, and altered them to require less strength.
They changed techniques, and added new ones. BJJ evolved from Judo.
You're the one who has no clue what he is talking about.
Jigoro Kano was a Jiu-Jitsu Expert that created an art form from Jiu-Jitsu. He borrowed many techniques from Jiu-Jitsu because that was his discipline. Depending on what you read it tells you that Kano added throws to Jiu-Jitsu creating Judo, not Judo creating Jiu-Jitsu but records will also tell you he incorporated joint locks from Jiu-Jitsu into Judo. People assume that the Joint locks came from Judo because that's where they are seen most.
It did not come from Judo, Jiu-Jitsu came from Jiu-Jitsu. You people say anything on here. JIgoro Kano was a Jiu-Jitsu expect who created Judo from Jiu-Jitsu. Did you understand that part Kano a Jiu-Jitsu Master created Judo from Jiu-Jitsu, Not Jiu-Jitsu from Judo. He borrowed from Jiu-Jitsu to create Judo, his contribution to Judo was the throws, most of the other techniques came from Jiu-Jitsu. A lake can come from a River a River can't come from a Lake.
Stop talking shit, man... Back you to the books. Surely, bjj come from the judo with some modifications, of course. A little more research and you will learn a lot, dude.
if judo is a standing art taht stops when it gets to the grouns and bjj involves it all plus all ground technique, why some fools still cant get it which comes first? yes, u´re dummies...train 20 years and then we´ll talk...screw u couch potatoes
u fuckin homo practitioner of that crap in the video can believe in any bullshit americans throw at u...kodokan is a school, bjj derives from the original form that was in india, long before it arrived in japan and kodokan was founded...chronological order hurts your shrunk brains, faggots...now go rehearse the next "match" or ppl may figure out how crap ur art is.

Haha... typical response of someone who has no real knowledge of martial arts. This is Jiu Jitsu, the same Jiu Jitsu that's been around for a hell of a lot longer than BJJ. This is where BJJ came from, developed for the weaker, smaller man. Of course, BJJ is now a dominant "sport", and has way more exposure, but you should really acknowledge your roots.
The scenes were very impressing, unfortunately not many scenes from the german fighters but it is a dutch video so the main point are the dutch fighters...but maybe you can produce some videos of the german ones???
I might be mistaken, but this looks alot like judo then jiu-jitsu, when in jiu-jitsu has there been Ippon on a take downm, or throw, thats judo, in jiu-jitsu you submit the person not throw him to end the fight, i could be wrong though so please respond and tell me if I am
See, you have 3 parts in ju-jitsu. 1)Kicking and Punching (light-contact) 2)Judo throws 3)Submission and you have two scores available -Ippon -Wazari To win a fight by Ippon you need to have one ippon in each part! To win by points you must have more points than the opponent after 3 minutes. A clear kick/punch scores 2 points A clear throw scores 2 points A grab handle (15 seconds) scores 2 points. A choke, armbar/lock (opponent is tapping) scores 3 points...everything else is 1 point, thats all
