  • I have a Geddy Lee bass as well but I didn't know you could get such an awesome tone out of it - what settings are you using? Very nice song, but take my advice - give it a name and get it copyrighted asap - it doesn't cost much and you need to protect what's yours.

  • I absolutely love this.. wonderful work. The only thing I can think to criticize is the fact that you seem a bit nervous/antsy standing and swaying. I personally would have sat down and relaxed to play something moving like that. Absolutely love the song though! (ps i have the same bass.. what nice taste you have)

  • Sounds kind of stu hammy....? Nice dude.

  • Amazing. I like how you go more with melodies. You follow your own path. As a beginning bassist, this is what I admire about you. You have incredible talent, please don't stop.

  • Beautiful solo Charlie, keep on playing, don't loose your dream! ;)

  • the way im gonna put this is wrong and you need more credit than i am going to give you... that was (still is) the best bass composition on youtube i would rate higher but youtube will only let me put 5 so i guess thats how many i'll have to put

Any less would just be stupid

  • muito empolgado esse baixista

  • nice work. great job with quotes and harmonics. sweet melodies, too.

  • is that a gddy lee fender jazz bass?

  • that's the geddy lee. pretty cool!

  • Geddy FTW bro, Gotta love Rush

  • It's nice!

  • So ahead of your age.

Since this was in 2006, god only knows how well you play today.

    Keep it up matey :)

    5*

  • This is really good, especially for only being 14. This kid does not suck, one would be foolish to make that kind of claim, and don't berate him for moving around, if the kid wants to sway while he plays theres nothing wrong with that.

  • nice job just stay still and love the tapp sliding harmonics

  • watch the tempo, one can tell it's not what you wanted to play with that, so please watch it...

    anyway, nice melodies, 4/5

  • really liking this alot man. its very good espec at 14! .. on a side note, you live on a house boat!? cause fuck that messes with your eyes after a while

  • felicidades

se nota que escuchas a stu hamm

    muy buen solo

  • not exactly doin it for me . . . . .harmonics sound pretty nice

    stay the fuck still!

  • "Stay still" Rago? What kind of a musician plays an instrument and stands perfectly still? I own this same Bass (as well as several other guitars and instruments) and this kid is getting some great tone out of his instrument.

    Those who can; DO

    Those who can't; TEACH

Those who can do niether; BECOME CRITICS!

Nice job Craig. Pay no attention to the fools out there... Thanks for posting this up for us.

  • Ouch for teachers.

  • Im getting seasick, be still dude......

  • this is awsome. dont listen to the negative comments. keep playing. check my vids.

  • Interesting, keep on playing. Greeting from mexico city ;)

  • no sir, you suck

  • @23035002509452

    show us you know better

  • very nice... I especially love the part towards the ending with the harmonics mixed in

  • ya dood very nice. After 19 yrs of playing im goin to play this...This is very very sweet. I love the melodic overtones, and the feel is top notch.

Dood may i play this?, and if i do i will make sure that all props and credits go you, we dont make a living off music we play for fun an ...well to play...lol

    peace

  • bro just stay still

  • Not my type, but none the less great.

    Terribly out of sync though.

  • check some of my videos

    ps your reel good

  • Sweetly played.Well done

  • Very nice, keep it up.

  • nice bass. geddy lee. sweet.

  • am i mistaken or are you miming here?

  • it just looks sort of fake because the video is out of sync with the audio, but i think that is him playing

  • nice, how long have you been playing? what are your influences?

  • watch on your tempo

  • is it your own compo?? cause it's really good =)

  • Awesome composition. Great playing. Keep it up!

  • Nice work Charlie, cracking tune mate!!!

    Keep em coming Warren

  • wow dude you sort of look like me in a way . . .

  • hahahahahahha

  • kind of not really. maybe when i was little i looked a bit like you but not anymore.

  • u have nice titties

  • wtf?

  • lmfao

  • very nice.

  • loved it!

  • Wow, oh my a wonderfull solo...thank you!

  • wow love it =]

  • Wow man, this is one of my fav bass solos I've seen on YT in a while. We have the same melodic style, I think. Keep up the awesome composition.

  • very nice! i seem to come up with little snippets but can never get it in a song, impressed, keep on composing!its fun

  • grande!!!

  • it was quite beautiful but it was more of a self composed song then a solo and second of all why didnt he play the last 3 notes and yet they still made the noise?

  • watch the vid, dont just listen, its horribly out of sync.

Look at when he does the tapping slides, and then listen for when you hear the tapping slides.

  • Beautiful...wish I could play at all much less like that. Get a camera stand, whoever is holding the camera is making too much noise not keeping his/her hands still.

  • Amazaing solo. Like, really amazing.

  • Don't listen to these negative fucktards dude. I have been playing bass for 22 years now and I think your composition is awesome. As young as you are you will go places in the music industry if you keep at it. Laters!

  • You've been playing bass for 22 years and still are stupid enough to use the word "fucktard"?

  • good playing, and your still young you have so much time to be the best, don't waste your talent, write a masterpiece thats undeniable and become a legend, cuz if you don't then your like everyone else... normal.

  • very cool man this is my dream bass and im bout to buy it.

  • very nice.... very relaxing. all of my solos are heavy metal and fast/complicated. so its really nice to hear someone that made one like this. 5 stars

  • nice, kee up the good work!!!

i'm a bass player too, i have a few Dream Theater videos, check it out when u have any free time and feel free to rate and leave a comment

nice playing! see u around (Y)

  • He is playing it I filmed him doing so it is just that the mobile phone that it was done on is slightly out of synch

  • Why are all the replies marked negative?

  • Sorry... youtube vids often get a bit out of sync with the audio... nice overreaction!

  • awesome video.. even though its fake. i especially like how ur playing the a string without actually touching it.. idiot

once you learn how to actually play that.. post it cause its a cool song

  • ... its not a fucking song, he composed it.

and he is playing it, retard.

    don't be such a fucker.

  • he is playing it you fucking inbred dumbass.

just cause the video is out of sync with the sound doesn't mean that he didn't play it.

look at his fucking hands. if you have ears at all you'd know that they're exactly where they're meant to be if the audio was in sync

    fucking noob.

  • You have my dream bass guitar..

  • I just bought one :)

  • I love you:)

  • Really nice job- made me cry a little. Mostly cus I want your bass. Awesome job.

  • beautiful song you got there. It's not woing me, but it expertly well written, props to you though, great playing.

I'm just saying it isn't Geddy Lee or Les Claypool.

But you have a bright future in music, great job! 5 stars from me!

  • That was beautiful. Awesome job!!!

  • this is absolutely fantastic for a 14 year old kid, there are guys who ahve been playing for 30 years, who couldnt write something like this..

    great job man.

  • sunburst finish barely smudges for me. i have a fender j.

  • Sweet solo man .. keep up the good work

  • wow....simply amazing man, ive got a question for anyone to answer, i play metal rock and slap and i need to know, whether to buy an epiphone thunderbird or a fender standard series jazz bass?

  • if you slap... go for the jazz bass. I don't really think T-birds are right for slap....but you should try both... ultimately.... it's what ever feels right to you. You might discover your own personal slap sound on the T-bird. To me, the Jazz bass is probably one of the most well rounded basses....Rock, Matal, Jazz, Funk, Fusion, Latin.... The Jazz does it all with great tone and playability

  • I'd go with the jazz...

I own both, and the epi's neck is too heavy... it falls down around my knees when it's balanced. That means you have to hold the neck up...=really annoying.

They are both great sounding basses though. If you try out the t-bird, be sure to put it on with a strap.

  • thanks man, one more question if you don't mind, ive already decided that i want the jazz bass, for the extra $130 its not bad, but is it good for rock and hard rock?

  • I can make mine do anything, dude... just a matter of tweaking.

I'd look up some sound samples, find some people.. then find out what strings, eq settings, ect they used. It makes a big difference.

to give you an idea, JPJ of Zeppelin used a 62' jazz...

I'd reccommend some heavier gauge strings though...makes the tone a little heavier.

name some stuff you need it for, man.. name some bands.

  • the sound im looking for is kind of a mix between Rush and Red Hot Chili Peppers.

  • then the jazz is absolutely perfect.

just look up string/amp info. You know what I mean?

I know flea uses light strings, and I think geddy does, too.

The only other thing I'd add is that the black finish smudges up really easily. cleaning cloths help.

  • k, thanks man, im going for a red finish wih a black pickguard

  • Beautiful. And, you're welcome.

By the way, this guy is amazing. lol

  • that was sweet man good job

  • that..was fucking awesome

  • yo man i really want a tab for this

  • very good player. has he had lessons and/or experience with with other instrruments?

  • how long hav you been oplaying?

  • four years

  • very good player. has he had lessons and/or experience with with other instrruments?

  • A couple of questions. how do you know where what harmonic sounds like what? Also any tips for constructing bass solos? Whenever I try it feels forced and I it sucks.

  • Great job. The harmonics section at the end is beautiful.

  • funkan666 i have a musicman stingray 4 30th anniversary edition and it works great i get amazing sound quality even with my crappy amp and u can get huge differences in the sound...i play anyhting from jazz to metal on it and it never ceases to amaze me

  • NIIIICE that is about 50 times better than anything I could ever write by myself 5 starts for you!

  • really cool man

  • very very nice, good job.

  • You don't really get much more versatile than a jazz bass, and yeh but i haven't named it so i might as well call it a solo...

  • ok, well I wasn't thinking in the rock aspect, I was talking more of Jazz improv/soloing because craignash put a video up sometime of Teen Town...which is jazz

  • Also, im thinkin of getting a Geddy Lee Jazz bass, but how versitile are they? i play everything from slow groove to thrash metal, so i need something that can do everything.

  • i agree with xythan, solos dont have to be improvised, the vid i did, poor as that was, cuz id just been outside so my hands were frozen hence cocking it up, i've played that possibly more than 100 times, doesnt make it not a solo, a solo is just where one instrument does its own thing for a bit, like this bass solo. OTHERWISE IT'S AN IMPROVISATION.

  • solos are solos they are what ever you want them to be, some solo artists write out thier tabs because they want them to be a certain way every time, solos don't have to be on the spot, jerk. lolz

  • Isn't the point of a solo that it's not previously composed? it's imrovised on the spot. ( rhetorical question )

  • your a big fan of vic wooten arent ya? i have one of those signature j-basses (geddy), i really love the way you got rid of the buzz for such a mellow solo.your the guy who cant stand tabs arent you?

  • No Im not the guy who cant stand tabs.Tabs are a legitimate way to learn new material, especially for beginners....

  • I like it, for the love of god stop criticizing tabs or sheet music does it really matter what one someone uses , its the players personal choice and there are advantages and disadvantages to both so stop making yourself looks big by bragging about using sheet music when no one actually cares, at the end of the day we only care if it sounds good and this does.

  • very nice playin

  • its beautiful

and people this is a place to comment the video not to bring up bullshit points about tabs!!

and i agree with drkhwy so stfu ragums!

  • i LOVE this solo, is the best video you have posted

is there any tab, partiture? you wrote it?

  • only noobs call people noobs :) tabs a legitimate way to learn new material, especially for beginners....

  • OH no... noobs definately tab. that means your too lazy to actually learn real music. Honestly. when you can read music... then we'll talk real music.

  • hahahaha... "then we'll talk real music".. ur too funny

  • do u have the tabs i like this alot

  • only noobs tab. sheet music makes you better. its okay btw

  • only noobs tab? that's stupid and not true.

  • Nice stuff, kid. Keep at it! Future session musician in the works me thinks yes.

Just one thing: don't move too much in that room. With those angles that bass's headstock might be in danger. :/

  • Nice bass. Love the Geddy jazz.

  • Nice. Did you use a "Web cam" or a camcorder? Is it possible to make a video like this using a web cam? I want to make a video of my playing but I'm not sure if I need an expensive camcorder of just a web cam. thanks

  • do you have this tabbed?

  • tab urself dude

  • i love the guy filming this...when he tries do correct the swaying and keeps bouncing the camera:D u can see his reflection in the guitar

  • amazing man! send me tabs?

  • hey man people act different when they play....i sway some and bite my lip, whatever works for you man....im diggin that bass...does the bad ass bridge come standard on that?

  • sounds like a wooten solo. i like it, very good!!!

  • nice tone. Geddy Lee Basses kick ass

  • Its not a fake, the video just gets out of sync, i dont no how to fix it sorry.

  • hmmm what happened to the end

  • Yes, do not sway so much, it is very distracting. And also, you probably should not keep sneaking glances at the camera. It's still there. Other than that, really cool, but I couldn't find the climax of the solo... was there one?

  • who cares if the dude sways. he played the damn song didnt he? and he did a pretty damn good job at it, its how you sound, not how you look.

  • the end is like fake because he stops playing but the music goes on

  • It's good. Only thing that annoyed me was the swaying.

  • oooh lovely:)

  • uhm fake

  • Awesome

  • stay still! good though, the harmonics were well done

  • hmmm. really nice. but the first minute and a hal just scream 'flea' at me. do you listen to red hot chili peppers?

  • Stop swaying youll have somebodys eye out

  • is it just me or did that look kinda FAKE? it sounds kinda classical i think and its alright but i prefer that bluesy kind of bass style

  • Danggg awsome job man. Nice to see some original music instead of another cover.

  • Wow you have a amazing technique whats your secret?

  • I'm guessing he'll say something along the lines of "practise" :p

  • very well doneeeeee

  • marry me?

  • Very nice, my kudos.

  • Pretty sweet song , congrat's :)

I like your playing style... btw that was very emotive :)

    Cheers,

    Alex

  • dayyyumm. those harmonics...they touched me...

  • I found this today and can't stop listening to it. Once you start with the harmonics, it's just beyond amazing

  • awesome. i wish i could do that(or at least do it as good).

  • looking 4 the runaway train though

  • Damn, what amp are you using with that Geddy? sounds fantastic! Great job on that solo. :)

  • Sounds like an Ampeg SVT??? BTW it isn't Fake! The audio is just delayed. Nice job, Listen to Wooten much? ;)

  • The voice range of the bass is beautiful for soloing. Great job, and let the world know how nice our instrument can sound standing on it's own!

  • Wow, that was awesome.

  • that was a beautiful tune, amazing!!

  • Good work! Great tune!

  • ill try and write some up, ill let you know.

  • Can you send me the sheet music?

  • i dont care wat da fuck any1 sayz about it,but dis wus 1 hell of a solo.well done!

  • Charlie Is My Bass Hero!!!

  • Hey, very cool! Well done! 5 stars dude! :)

  • nice arrangement and control. It amazes me how many morons pipe up on these comments--they obviously don't play. You show a lot of maturity in your writing and arranging. COOL!

  • the bass is singing for gods sake!

  • i like it!

  • hey, i heard this 1000000 times before, hehehe

  • Sorry, I made a mistake. The audio gets delayed to the video :P

P.D.:The more I hear the solo, the more it likes me. Great job

  • I agree, this is not a fake: the video gets progressively delayed to the audio, I'm pretty sure cuz I can see how you play every single note.

Good work man, a very cool solo, keep that way

  • I apologize that the video is out of sync as I dont know how to fix it. I'll take it as a compliment that you thought I was faking.

  • Man please you need more practice if your going to fake it!!!!

  • stfu bitch!
