Humans like most animals rely on fear to keep others in line. Religion, well fear of the great beyond is a great way to keep masses in line. At least it used to be. The bible itself tells of the whacky things people did in fear of 'God'. But manypeople don't fear religion like they used to. But we do still need a perfect moral code to follow for a better to future.
It's fair to say current methods of mankind are wrecking the planet, no matter what you believe in.
We are born without religion,I wonder if we had a group of new born people and raised them without religion or any god, who would they grow up to be, what would their society be like and would it be a good or bad society?
If there was no God, there would be no soul, no afterlife, no real love, hate, good, evil or crime itself because all these have no scientific meanings. As for love and hate, these certainly do exist, as is evidenced by the followers of various religions as well as by those who subscribe to none. Evil is subjective, as can crime be. Morality, also, is fairly subjective, if often commonly agreed upon. Free will exists because we (generally) are not prone to hive-mind. We're made in our parents' image, not evolution's freak. We're us.
Do you think there's such a thing as objective morality? I say yes, in that I give credence as truth in humanity. Your world-view, in that there are no moral truths, so anything goes, isn't going to make the world a better place, it will be worse! My point is, is that a world-view of no moral truths replacing a construct of moral truths is not any benefit to humanity, it's the very denial of humanity! What there is, instead, is a mutually agreed upon subjective morality, mainly consisting of what is good for humankind as a species. Piranhas don't kill one another, despite their ferocity toward other species. Does that make them more moral than human beings? What is moral in certain religions is antithetical to morality in other religions. Where is the objectivity? It is in science, alone.
I hate to tell you, "Piranhas are likely to become cannibalistic on others in their group if underfed". A human can choice to starve to death to allow more food for a baby even outside their group! This is humanity and no other animals are human thus have no "humanity". Objectivity is only in the subset of philosophy called science via logic. So throwing babies into a fire to reduce overpopulation and keep warm is not objectively wrong but only subjectively wrong as opinion?
Statements like "think about what you did and remove this" are the reason, in my personal opinion, scientific advances have taken so long. Everyone should be entitled to their own thoughts and expression. If you believe in god, isn't it his/her place to judge people, and not yours? If religion is what makes you happy, go for it, if not, go for what does. It's the -shoving- either way that bothers me. God, a simple way to help comfort people from thousands of years ago on what they couldn't explain with science. From what I know, I believe we are in a era of change from this faith in nothingness to guide us somewhere to actual actions.

Without religion and the consequences of 'sin', there'd be more crime, more egocentric minds, more selfish acts, basically the same sort of problems but in different forms. People would long for a divine ruler, who is omnipotent and just, that is God, whose laws no one may question. The "convenient" thing about "god" is that it is unseen yet omnipotent, and people have genuine fear towards it. So yeah, I believe religion has prevented more crime than it has caused new ones.

@iAMsoBEAST1 Yeah I believe so, although to be honest I haven't done the research, so it's just my personal opinion :) Only few Muslims approve of suicide bombings, and those who do have been heavily influenced by the hardline fanatics. Suicide bombings are just as bad as university shooting rampages, and both have happened quite a few times in the past.
So yeah I don't think it's a matter of whether religions exist, but whether people can stop pushing their belief down other people's throats.

People would be able to think more intellectually and diversively, but at the same time we would hold less interest in being human and start behaving more like robots. Why would emotions, character, and attitudes matter much anymore in a society without the cornerstone that directed such aspects? Sure feminism would be around to insure female attitudes, character, and emotions since male attitudes, character, and emotions are preserved through religion as we all know with male domination.
But over time we would lose those emotions, attitudes, and character since they still situate around beliefs. We would be driven towards mechanical logic and emphasize more on rules and obedience. And then we would find ourselves even less free in the end even though the matter would have allowed us to be free from the shackles and stupidity of traditionalist thoughts.

What a beautiful video! Five stars! And who knows, if religion had NEVER existed then the Dark Ages would never have happened. By now we might have had unlimited free energy, robots to do our work and flying cars (cool). Hunger, poverty and war might be things of the past.
I thought it was beautifully put together with a moving message. My one criticism is that the silly comments ("Like on South Park") or the little jibes ("Don't worry Christians...")...these little things chip away (ever so slightly) at the core of message and cheapen a truly thought-provoking moment.

Humans like most animals rely on fear to keep others in line. Religion, well fear of the great beyond is a great way to keep masses in line. At least it used to be. The bible itself tells of the whacky things people did in fear of 'God'. But manypeople don't fear religion like they used to. But we do still need a perfect moral code to follow for a better to future.
It's fair to say current methods of mankind are wrecking the planet, no matter what you believe in.

If there was no God, there would be no soul, no afterlife, no real love, hate, good, evil or crime itself because all these have no scientific meanings. Morality would be no more than an illusion of opinion and self-awareness and consciousness as an individual with freewill without a soul would be no more than biological chemical delusions. Science can try to discover what we are but never inform us of who we are. Are we made in God's image or evolution's freak of nature?

As for love and hate, these certainly do exist, as is evidenced by the followers of various religions as well as by those who subscribe to none. Evil is subjective, as can crime be. Morality, also, is fairly subjective, if often commonly agreed upon. Free will exists because we (generally) are not prone to hive-mind. We're made in our parents' image, not evolution's freak. What there is, instead, is a mutually agreed upon subjective morality, mainly consisting of what is good for humankind as a species. Piranhas don't kill one another, despite their ferocity toward other species. Does that make them more moral than human beings? What is moral in certain religions is antithetical to morality in other religions. Where is the objectivity? It is in science, alone.

Statements like "think about what you did and remove this" are the reason, in my personal opinion, scientific advances have taken so long. Everyone should be entitled to their own thoughts and expression. If you believe in god, isn't it his/her place to judge people, and not yours? If religion is what makes you happy, go for it, if not, go for what does. It's the -shoving- either way that bothers me. To each their own, and if the four horsemen come charging, then you can say "I Told you So!" :)

Without religion and the consequences of 'sin', there'd be more crime, more egocentric minds, more selfish acts, basically the same sort of problems but in different forms. People would long for a divine ruler, who is omnipotent and just, that is God, whose laws no one may question. They then would gather and share the belief, and invent new religions, and the whole thing would go a full circle.
Live your own lives people. Believe what you believe but don't push it down other people's throat.

@iAMsoBEAST1 Yep, fair point. I just don't believe in law, because it's corruptible, "escapable" and less consequential than religion (as in, 20 years in prison if you're caught is less scary than definite eternity in Hell after you die).
The "convenient" thing about "god" is that it is unseen yet omnipotent, and people have genuine fear towards it. So yeah, I believe religion has prevented more crime than it has caused new ones.

@iAMsoBEAST1 Yeah I believe so, although to be honest I haven't done the research, so it's just my personal opinion :) Only few Muslims approve of suicide bombings, and those who do have been heavily influenced by the hardline fanatics. Suicide bombings are just as bad as university shooting rampages, and both have happened quite a few times in the past.
So yeah I don't think it's a matter of whether religions exist, but whether people can stop pushing their belief down other people's throats.

First of all, people that do wrong, go to prison, or die and waste their only life. Second of all, what about all the people (if god were to actually exist) that are Atheists, and nice, respectable, selfless people; do they deserve eternal damnation? Just because "God" is so petty.

LOL, most justify there completely evil acts as the will of god, many believe they have nothing to atone for, others believe prayer and just believing in god will save them and there actions dont count. and many believe there doing the right thing by mass conversions but they are zealots and there turning people against their families and destroying there culture and creating a new place for con artists to flock and reek havoc. so chaos is here its called religion.

I thought it was beautifully put together with a moving message. My one criticism is that the silly comments ("Like on South Park") or the little jibes ("Don't worry Christians...")...these little things chip away (ever so slightly) at the core of message and cheapen a truly thought-provoking moment.

i am atheist but i do not believe the world is ready for an existence without religion. their are a lot of stupid people out there that cannot comprehend morality without an imaginary sky daddy to reward them for their good deeds. we will get rid of religion one day but not anytime soon.

LOL you evolutionists fail to grasp the prime commandment of your religion: survival of the fittest. i cant help but chuckle when you advocate some sort of charity or socialism. grow a backbone like that Finnish guy who advocates depopulation (sorry i forget his name at the moment) so i can at least respect you. videos like this are full of the same tired cliches and are just "daily affirmations" or "chicken soup for the atheist's soul" so you kids can feel good about yourselves. again, LOL.

You think evolution is a religion.
2nd mistake:
You think evolution makes any commandments.
Evolution is a scientific fact, no religion, only religions make commandments.
Scientific facts don't make any commandments, they only show us how the world works.
3rd mistake:
You think that fitness and charity are contradicting each other. Thats totaly wrong. After all evolution and fitness is the only working theory, that explaines even altruism.
