I think what I did not state implicitly was that I was hoping to find the note for note version of the solo from KISS Alive II. And it's just my opinion, but it did seem like the tone and sound quality changed. I was disappointed and so just voiced my opinion.
@anael169 you will never find the Alive II version anywhere other than Alive II, because that was edited, as it was to be released in an audio-only format (LPs and 8-tracks). The special effects section of the solo only makes sense if you can see the performance, it wouldn't have worked on an LP. And I think you have the words "implicitly" and "explicitly" confused ;)

The effects are lame and cheesy-sounding and actually, in the end, either implicitly or explicitly, what I really wanted to do was note the comparisons between the Alive II solo and Eruption... there are similarities and i was curious how much Van Halen influenced his playing at this time... @anael169 Alive II was in 77, VH I was in 78, so, if anything, Ace influenced Eddie. If you look at some of the stuff Ace was doing as early as 75, such as the Midnight Special TV show in the sidebar over here--->
you will see that Ace was already doing some finger-tapping stuff on the neck (although he used a pick)
@anael169 Trivia: The 2 bands were familiar with each other: Gene produced an early VH demo and tried to convince Casablanca to sign them, but that didn't happen. And then Gene got Eddie and Alex to play on the demos of the songs he had writen for Love Gun.

Say what you will about Frehley's technique, but, all I know is, I was 7 when I first rocked out to this tune and I'm still doing the same at age 41. It's nice that you play guitar and all that --- I'm sure you're impressive at it, too --- but, what've you accomplished in comparison to Frehley?

Anyway, who cares about the technical complexity as long as it sounds good? Somebody like Yngwie Malmsteen might be a lot more technically complex, but to me it has no rock 'n' roll 'feel' to it, which is what Ace has, in spades.
@anael169 . About the camera not showing the fret work: it's always like that with KISS: Paul and Gene are acting up for the cameras, so they show that instead of Ace. But you do see enough of the fretwork, at (approxmately) 2:50, 4:36, 5:04, 6:30, and 8:00, to know that it would have been almost impossible to dub something in that would fit seamlessly with the video.

Very obvious tome that the tome of that guitar is much different the low quality of the rest of the video... overdubbed to be sure... why did they not show him play the solo? Ace had killer Les Paul w distortion humbucker pickup through a 70's "mv" Marshall tone. But very little sustain. I got to see his guitars up close at a gig he did in my hometown. My friends band got to open and i helped set up. His pickups are set SUPER close to his strings. He gets great attack and a killer crunch tone but alot of the notes just die. His tone in 74-75 was better. Check out the winterland show ! KILLER TONE !

Here is My List of Ace Frehley songs that Tommy Thayer Should Never, Ever Play
1 Shock Me- This is Ace's 1# Song and One of My Favorite KISS songs but Only Ace can play it on his Solo tours or if he rejoins KISS ever again (probably not but I can hope for lightning to strike twice).
2 2000 Man- Though the Stones wrote it, Ace Made it Great
3 Cold Gin- I know Gene sang it but Ace Wrote it (and plays it while solo)
4 Parasite- Again, same as #3
5 New York Groove- Its a long shot But NEVER!!!!!

@msmdude68 All songs you mentioned but one are on KISS albums,not Ace albums.Like Journey,Styx,AC DC,Metallica,Foreigner ,Van Halen,Black Sabbath,Iron Maiden,and many other big name bands KISS will continue to play any song off of any KISS album....

@MRTTMT Yes but none of the other Bands wore Specific Make Ups and Costumes so its different with KISS!! Also, Sabbath almost NEVER played Ozzy Songs while with Dio and visa versa! Also, The Other Bands Didn't have a former member who wrote a song about Being Fucking Electricuted on Stage!!! So While your Logic makes sense with other bands, For Me, KISS is A Different Story. I guess we all have our own opinions!

I respect Tommy as a Great Guitarist and If He Wants to Play Ace's Solos like on She, Thats Okay (Also, sadly it was Tommy that Helped Ace Relearn a lot of his solos for the Reunion!). @Chrisdrumz I agree with you somewhat , eric singer and tommy thayer are talented musicians , IMO the only "fitting" replacement was eric carr.. the sydney show in 1980 you notice the power he braught to them , they blended very well , back to the "bogus kiss" yes , they should of called it quits back in 2000 .. (gene and paul have a 13 BILLION dollar combined net worth for a reason) but they didn't ..fans would respect them more if they had they're own image like vinnie,bruce,eric...
