There is a fantastic versin of this by fellow on Youtube "BardofCornwall", as well as a live version by the Dubliners. Those are much more true to the Irish/Scot folk feel of the song.
Good job on this version though, very Dylan'esque.
Terrible , why can't an American do a decent version of this , Dylan included ! Best of all is the Corries , then you can't beat the pipes of the Black Watch . Great room for improvement for a class song .
He's American,he did an American version . . .and he's awesomeness.Fairly difficult song, so gj Braden. Scottie blood too by the look of that bonnie face WOOT!! More songs plx ty
Oh, come on you girners - the boy's doin a nice job even though he's not got a clue about how to pronounce Scots. I particularly liked his "Gariachie-o" pronunciation but, what the hell, you can't work it out from the spelling. He's braw when he says braw though.
I hope you learn some spirituals as well. Check out Dylans Slow Train Coming Album. Most of the songs are about Jesus Christ. Have a good life and don't be misled by false teachers and spirits. Seek the truth brother and sing about that.
The best recordings: Joan Baez, 'Fennario' (see her Ballad Book album. I got the sheet music off ebay); for best Scottish version see the Corries' Bonnie Lass O' Fyvie. Dylan really didn't know what he was doing if he sang it like that! Not middle ages, unless it's been changed a lot. If by translated you mean from Gaelic, jog on. It's not that old. More likely C18th, I'd say. I'm not sure if it's from the Scottish Minstrelsy collected by Walter Scott.
God love him, he's so intense but if he's going to channel Dylan quite so hard could he choose another song. My Dad taught me this one when I was seven years old, it didn't sound much like that.
If anyone can find a version of the Dubliners singing this please let me know.
They do a version of Peggy Gordon which is a completely different song.
Thanks

My Dear Boy,
I really enjoyed your renditon of Peggy O. A few comments, take or chuck, it's up to you....
Great natural guitar. Well done!
Don't read the words. Know them (as you do half way through)
Get yourself to Scotland or Ireland to learn the language and culture.
I'll give you 9/10, but you can really do better with a bit of thought.
Talent......... you've got loads!
Cheers,
Gordy

Wow! Fantastic! This was not the version I am familiar with, though the story is the same. Thank you for your rendition. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Yeah, being such an old folk song it has been translated into several different versions...these are the most original lyrics I could find.

Pretty neat, wonder how old it really is - Middle Ages?If so, I'm sure some translation was needed..
