  • How can you tell if this condition is fake or not?

  • Most of the viewpoints that have been laid out here are from a biased viewpoint. Sounds like the person has made up his mind and done research in order to provide proof to his view and refuses to accept any form of contrary input. If you want info on DID I suggest you seek it out for yourself and make up your own mind. Don't get caught listening to the vitrol spewed by some bitter monkey.

  • You would figure someone with so much education and so many credentials would have better things to do than sit on a youtube thread and respond negatively to everything posted.

  • she's running away because someone is vacuuming? oh for the love of-- sit your ass down and study you ridiculous woman! i have no patience for this kind of attention whoring behavior.

  • WHAT ARE WE GONNA DO?!?!?! NOT THE VACUUMS!

  • @bravepercennius

I was reading your message right up to the moment I hit the block button.

Son, you can't help being stupid. Thats your mothers fault. But, its your fault you are boring.

  • @Waltham1892 You're not a doctor, how could you sure that nothing such MPD ? Have you ever in their situation ?

  • @theholyrevenger

While I don't use the title often, someone with a Ph.D is commonly referred to as "Doctor."

How can I be sure there is no such thing as MPD?

The great American Psychologist William James pointed out that there can be nothing in the mind which is not created by the brain.

The brain's architecture will not support multiple executive functions or multiple discrete centers of memory.

The science speaks for itself. Time to put the clinical fantasies on the shelf.

  • @Waltham1892 So you mean all the video of upload by youtuber about their MPD problem are lie. They just pretend to hide their psycho mental or seek for attention

  • @theholyrevenger

Are all of them lies? No, not all.

Some are delusional belief systems, attention seeking behaviors, iatrogenic injuries, psychotic disorder NOS, and conversion disorders.

Most of these folks have real personality disorders, just not the one they want to have.

  • @bravepercennius

Who in the fuck do you think you are talking to?

I'm a male, an Army Officer, and a veteran of two tours in Iraq.

So, now that you've got my attention, asshole, what else you go to say?

(now is the time you creap back under the rock you were living under and hope I forget about you).

  • @Waltham1892 Thanks for your self-description. Thats exactly what you sound like. And no, that was no compliment. Block.

  • @Emerelle03

Oh, have I gored someone's sacred cow?

  • this disorder is crazy but true, sad but true.

  • Waltham, are you arguing that DID doesn't exist at all, anywhere, for anyone?

  • Comment removed

  • And why is it nobody knew they had DID until a psychiatrist found it? You are suppose to have blackouts but yet the patient always remembers to show up on time for their therapists appointment.

  • @maggie0285

    MDP/DID is the only dsorder:

    Where you can't know you have it;

    Can't know if the treatment is working;

    Can't know if you are getting better;

    Can't know if you are cured;

MPD/DID is like paying your mechanic 4000$ because your car is NOT making a funny noise when you hit the breaks!

  • @Waltham1892 piss off !!!

  • @4Uand4USa

Thank you for your well reasoned posting.

Now, why don't you print it out and maybe Mommie will put it on the fridge.

  • Believe it or not my psychiatrist lent me this video back in the 90's. Looking back I felt the video was abusive and just another form of brainwashing. It felt intrusive to my soul and the very core of who I am. My psychiatrist was hell bent on diagnosing me with DID. I'm sorry but from my own personal experience I feel psychiatrist can't help people. i think people get better when they decide they are tired of trying to please their doctors. It's the truth.

  • She can't get a car because of the payments to this therapist ? If she is this impoverished why not help her in this community ? That is what is nuts or abnormal..

  • @Waltham1892 not really, part of the process it's getting the alerts to integrate which would be causing the memory sections to open and work together. You have a biased opinion of the disorder and erl look for any argument to discredit it.

  • Question 1: Where are these memory sections you are talking about? Given the massively interconnected nature of the human brain where do you think these “parts” are?

Question 2: Do you practice clinical psychology? Because I have, taught it too. For the last decade I've worked for I am my state's Department of Mental Health. If you want to talk psychopathology with me, have at it. But, I'm going to be asking some pointed questions. I will also ask you for citations for your claims.

  • Idk much about MPD but I think I wanna start studying it. One thing I might know about it..is that when a person switches to another personality, they don't remember what the other personality does. That they do not know that they switch to another personality untill that one personality is shown a video of them switching.

  • @Titusaki No, this isn't always true. You can be coconcious with an alter. This means you are both aware of what is happening even though you may not be the one running things. Someone else is calling the shots and your body acts and you kind of stand and watch.

  • @whitecatlord

Sorry, that is not true. The basis of personality is memory, if you remember what an alter did, it was you doing it.

That is the problem with MPD/DID, its underlying theory is self-contradictory.

  • This is very informative and eye-opening, but would anyone happen to know where I can find a full length Truddi Chase interview?

  • Isn't it a tip off that every "Multiple" you see is a white American female between the ages of 20 and 40?

I mean, the group most likely to have somatic complaints, conversion disorder, and Borderline Personality Disorder.

Time to put two and two together.

  • @Waltham1892 People who acctually have the disorder aren't generally the ones on youtube showing it off for attention. DID is about hiding and secrets.

  • I would agree with the first clause of that statement, the folks on youtube are not MDP/DID, and most of the second, MPD/DID is about hiding and secrets.

What is being hidden and kept secret is individuals who claim MPD/DID, and I've seen about a dozen over the years, are hiding an Axis II disorder with its pathological need for attention.

Get them to be open, get them beyond the play for attention, and the MPD/DID goes away without treatment (because it was never there).

  • @Waltham1892 I am a hispanic female with MPD. You should get better educated. This is what happens to me also. Ignorance is what makes it so difficult for us to talk to others about it.

  • @Waltham1892 Yes, but can you state that as a direct causal relationship? For one, in other countries, they perform "exorcisms" for such things. Extreme abuse is usually a contributing factor: Women typically are more likely to be abused (documented fact, not opinion). They have recently discovered that borderline may have a genetic component. There are many diseases that occur in a specific race because of genetics. Just to name a very few things you may want to think on before being "clever".

  • @tarantulady

Some of your points I agree with, some I don’t, and other seem not to be relevant (exorcism?).

What point are you trying to make?

  • @Waltham1892 If they are performing exorcisms, they aren't diagnosing the people with the disease. In other words, white american women are more likely to be diagnosed because they are in a place where the care is available and they are able to afford the diagnosis. I'd have gone more in-depth in the first place, but I mean it's a youtube comment. So you get kind of forced to paraphrase everything.

  • @tarantulady

It could also mean that Caucasian America women, who are the most likely to exhibit psychosomatic symptoms and conversion disorders because they have a venue to do it in, are doing just that.

MPD/DID is psychologically and neurologically impossible.

Either the last 100 years of science has been wrong, or a handful of clients are engaging in attention seeking behaviors.

I'm going to side with the science on this one.

  • @Waltham1892 well well, you are pretty arrogant. I saw you trolling on other DID videos, and you are a psychologist? Dont think so.

  • @Tuckercrew

Arrogant is what they call you on the internet when you actually know what you are talking about.

Yes, I am a psychologist. I work for my state's Department of Mental Health.

    Any other questions?

  • @ChaoticEnigma100 are u ok??

  • I know what she means by hiding our real selves. I have depression but not even my therapist believed me at first because around other people I'm "happy" it's fake smiles tho :-(

  • how would one person know if they have something like this? I'm wondering if I have it i mean I don't have memory lapses but I do change o.o

  • @louietheduke

Everyone does. Everyone's roles and moods fluctuate in time. I play the role of student, son, boyfriend (all act differently depending on the context). Most people have a different personality when it comes to interacting with a baby than with an adult.

  • 7:11- fear of vacuum noise. post traumatic alien abduction fear of hose noises?

  • No way in hell am I going to let any doctors or therapists destroy me. I slip through the cracks. I hide. I'm subtle. I trick. And I'm a master at it. I can control this girl, this stupid girl, to do what I please. I cut her. I can make her ENJOY it! I can alter her mind as well as control her body. That's how I'm typing this. I'm not evil. SHE is! SHE is the one who would make the doctors kill me with drugs. I'm only acting in self defense! What did SHE do to deserve a body? I will win.

  • The reason that MPD/DID continues to exists is so that Borderlines can be trendy and interesting.

Other than that, Cognitive and Neuropsychology put MPD/DID in its grave in the mid-1990's.

With the next revision of the DMS, MPD/DID will transition from psychopathology to a life style choice.

    Game Over.

  • @Waltham1892 When you say "Borderlines" do you mean Boderline Personality Disorder? Because the lady in the video did exhibit traits of the disorder ex: cutting herself... Or did you mean the book store? Haha, either way I agree with you. Disassociate Identity Disorders are usually iatrogenic diseases and the cause of a bias therapist and self-fulfilling patient. Or the cause of physical brain trauma.

  • @ModGyo

Yes, I did mean Borders. Borders Personality Disorder is closely linked to Amazon Personality Disorder, which is usually triggered by UPS drivers.

I was not aware that DID could be caused by brain trauma. The only thing close to it is "phantom hand syndrome" which the result of a surgery caused a complete commissurotomy, which cuts the connections between the hemispheres. Each hemisphere independantly controls the contralateral hand.

  • @Waltham1892 I agree with you 100%.

  • @maggie0285

Never agree with anyone 100%. Always be sceptical, critical; ask questions and demand answers.

  • this is real the sympthoms are all the same for diff ppl, what is the me, what is my personality, is one personality for one brain what if that personality is fragmented into diff parts that cant connect with eachother this usually happens in childwood because of abuse or simply because he child has mild autism cauased by polution heavy metals, bad food

  • One of me is a happy-go-lucky, bright, beautiful girl. The other me is adark, angry, sad, unattractive, and dangerous girl. I hear voices too, but they don't bother me. I've always had the voices. I usually give them faces, then assign to myself a new face so I can interact with these voices. They're some of my closest friends. They never judge me. But the antidepressant the doctor put me on makes it difficult for me to be with them. I hate it...

  • @JaceaRise

You probably shouldn't encourage your hallucinations.

  • @jpayne68177 I wouldn't call them hallucinations. I'm two different people. I'm not imagining anything.

  • @JaceaRise

I know you wouldn't. The reality IS that you are ONE person. You have been tricked to believe otherwise (which I know is very real for you, but in reality, objectively speaking, it's not). The problem would be helped (I believe) with the use of mindfulness and affirmational "reality checks". I can clarify what I mean by this if you want. But essentially your reality formation has perceptual gaps which require conscious intervention so that its development can manifest itself.

  • @jpayne68177 I haven't been tricked to believe anything. I am Julia Dawn and Jacea Rise. I made them both who they are today. And of course I know that I AM ONE person -- Jacea and Julia are both me.

  • @JaceaRise

Those two people are nobody. They are a product of your imagination. You do not embody a true human being, you are just pretending to be one. Live life through your senses, not your imagination.

  • @jpayne68177 Wrong. They're me. How I personify the two extremes in my life, the polar opposite twins, is how I define myself. I'm two sides of the same coin.

  • @JaceaRise

One of the biggest signs of mental illness is the lack awareness on the part of the ill that there is a problem.

  • @jpayne68177 And if there really isn't a problem? Oh, it certainly isn't healthy that my emotions differ so crazily throughout the day, how my outlook on life changes so erratically. I know that I'm me, and that I am one person. I just have two polar opposite personalities. Maybe I'm bipolar, maybe it's a product of my SDD and/or my PTSD. Yeah, I have mental illnesses. And I am aware of them. I'm not some blind, inexperienced idiot.

  • @JaceaRise

This isn't so bad. The key is to realize that you are NOT your thoughts and perceptions (which are associations). You are not an idea, you experience ideas. You're too wrapped up in ideas, ideas are representations of reality. Come to actual reality, through the senses. Be mindful (aware) of your senses at all times. In other words, see the world through your eyes, not your imagination.

  • @jpayne68177 I don't see anything that isn't actually going on. I don't hallucinate. I just named my polar-opposite personalities.

  • @jpayne68177 This is all very arrogant.

  • @imogen1885 well then by all means please show us when she is lying. And time stamps when her facial and/or body language contradicts what she says.

  • when you go to school and study psychology and social work for six years and are willing to learn, then you can make your "educated" opinion known. :)

  • MK Ultra victims?

  • @idinafanboi yes these are mind control(mk ultra) victims sadly :(

  • This film is old. MPD is no longer accepted as a disorder. It's a lot of bollocks.

  • @Imogen1885 yes because it is known as dissociative identity disorder....same disorder different name. If you don't believe me look up the official DSM-V. Even if you believe they are making it up for attention, then they are still in fact suffering from a mental disorder called Munchausens.

  • @MissEyre100 It is a mental disorder. I agree. But MPD does not exist.

  • @Imogen1885 it is now known as dissociative identity disorder DID and is the DSM

  • @TooHard2FakeItt DID does not exist. I don't care what they call it. It's nonsense.

  • Mapping the Mind by Rita Carter is an excellent book that explains this kind of stuff. Some cases are simply shocking and are very hard to believe but its true.

  • That sounds horrible! Sounds like she is extremely traumatized! What happened to this poor woman?

  • @SecretWife56 It is evident that she was severely sexually abused by a man or a group of men, and was threateed to never tell anyone about their "secret". Extreme childhood abuse is often an occurrence that MPD or DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) stems from; in order to forget the horrible memories of what has happened to her, she used what would be a child's last and only defense; escaping into her mind to avoid the blow of what happened. A person she creates in mind faces the pain instead.

  • Gretchen, I'm sorry for the comments from people who just don't know; who speak with no education or personal experience. I'm sorry for what you had to endure. I am so happy to have heard from K that you are doing well in your profession. I need to know something for my own recovery. Knowing what you know, could you please let me know if you would go with Sodium Amytal again for a more speedy recovery or the dreadfully long Psychotherapy route? PLZ contact me.

  • I remember this film from early 90's (I think).

  • Does anyone remember what year this HBO special was filmed?

  • when was this made? this is fantastic.

  • the e Chity wok can i tak your odra pree

  • @RamiroRaZ13

lol, i just got done watching that episode. Funny how your comment is the top one :)

  • I find this very interesting I love to learn more.

  • 1 person has multiple personality disorder

  • Right now at college we are learning about this disorder, this is perfect teaching material and so interesting.. amazing.

  • No, MPD is not fake. I have a friend of mine who doesn't have it but something like it. Her twin died when she was a baby and since then ,he has lived within her. If you don't believe me fine, but it is true.

  • Shouldn't her doctor encourage her to stop saying "we"?

  • This is the very reason im studying psychology. I wana help these people get better

  • I feel so bad!

  • Omg !!! :(

  • Gosh..this really upsets me. These poor people live tortured lives. My heart goes out to each and everyone of them.

  • And if you ever had to walk uh mile in their shoes, well then you might know what its like, what its like, to sing the blues. And then you might know whats its like to have to choose.

  • I can relate to Gretchen so much.... My story is somewhat similar.... The main difference is that I hallucinate too... I hate it when people think we're faking, I mean who would want to fake THIS?!

  • I actually know a girl with multiple personality disorder. Sometimes it was funny, like when she was suddenly a 5-year-old who loved to sing the ABC's, but then sometimes it was scary, when she suddenly started running down the street as fast as she could with no intention of coming back.

  • Oh man, why does the kid in the short story Charles by Shirley Jackson, make me think that he had developed MPD? - I might have found the answer in this video.

  • Comment removed

  • i think this is kinda of cool. i wish i could have a second personality

  • @pimpydo You think this is cool??? As someone with this disorder, there is NOTHING cool about it...someone with DID has been through terrible trauma in their life in order for it to develop...what is cool about that???

  • @taylormadediva2009 yea they may have went through some terrible trauma but having that second personaltiy can help you. its like switching from one person that isnt good at doing much to another person that can help change your life. Hopefully for the best.

  • @pimpydo But the fact remains that this personality develops as a result of horrible trauma during childhood. Also, the 'alters' are actually different parts of the person's personality, which are supposed to integrate (Judging from various videos on youtube, I haven't looked into it a lot) through therapy, which would indicate that MPD is basically where your personality, you perception and reactions to the world, are split up and uncontrollable.

Also, uncontrollable self harming is awful.

  • For anyone who doesn't believe in DID, can you really watch Gretchen and think she's faking? If she's faking, she deserves an academy award.

  • @ShayLee0501 i don't think she is deliberately faking... i think she is very ill and needs help, but i think the explanations and track they have her following is false. For one thing, teaching her to run and hide from any anxiety is disempowering her. The "alters" can be "fake" without her intending to pretend or fake them.

  • @RampantArtist That's a very interesting point and one well worth considering.

  • A police officer with DID? That's a bit scary. I don't mean to be prejudiced but there are enough 'sane' police officers who do fucked up shit. The last thing we need is police officers with recognised mental disorders that could act in a completely unpredictable manner!?

  • @ShayLee0501 I posted this in the other vid: the implications of it are not good. Especially since he has a military past. It means that he was absued, split and programmed. He is likely being used, his alters used to carry out certain tasks which means he is mind controlled. The police psych profile would not have let him pass if he was not already part of the system.

  • @beautifulmind546 It's certainly a scary thing to contemplate, however if he stayed as whichever alter he felt was most appropriate or as his 'real' self and didn't disclose his condition or 'switch' halfway through any assessment, then how would the profiler know?

  • @ShayLee0501 Psych profilers are trained to spot thses things and this would not be hard to miss. I think they knew he was DID when they hired him which means that he is a programmed DID. What that means is that some of us are abused to deliberately split us and then our alters are programmed for certain tasks. I"m convinced this is the case with him especially since he has military history. They could have him doing anything through mere suggestion, things like drug running or even murder.

  • i'd give gretchen 1

  • 7:45.... damn

  • Poor thing. What a tortured soul. See? We never know what someone's life has been like for them. That's why I never understood why people say nasty things to people. Even on youtube, I see people calling people names, swearing, horrible things. Maybe that person has been tortured enough already.

  • @XWoodchuckleX one word: Internets
