Thank you so much for your Erhu videos! I am just starting to learn the Erhu and trying to learn bowing technique. How much of the bow can be used to produce sound? I can make a reasonable tone with about 80% of the bow, but the last 20% (nearest my hand) makes a terrible noise. Am I doing something wrong? Or is this normal?
regarding what initiates the bowing action, i suppose there is some contention here. although it might seem as if the arm initiates it, sometimes it's really the wrist that initiates the action. the arm simply moves together in a relaxed manner. but i think at the root of the matter, the wrist is the primary initiator.
this particular viewpoint might vary from player to player though.

how do you get the hair in between the strings?? and i cannot purchase a qianjian. anyone know an alternative?

so do you put the bow in between the two strings? or do you play them from the outside? its hard to put into words what im trying to say sorry haha

@Bluerocka145 The bow is in between the strings. If you have it set up right, you should not be able to separate the bow from the instrument.
