Tibet is also a symbol of the overall oppression in China. Sure, the Western media doesn't show the whole picture, but concept remains. It's called "Freedom, Liberty, and Self Determination". Something Chinese have NEVER had, cannot conceive of, and DONT deserve.

However glorious this moment was supposed to be, it's immediately soured by the fact that in order to make it happen,- indeed, in order to make ANYTHING happen- China has to "close down "something or someone". Rights group argue that taking the flame up Everest on Thursday is in bad taste and not in keeping with the spirit of the Olympics.

China effectively closed off the region over concerns protesters would try to disrupt the assault on Everest, sitting astride the border of the Chinese region of Tibet and Nepal.
