Hey so, i need a lap for labbing im trying to decide between a Mac book pro 15' i7 Quad 2.2 GHz
4 GB of 1333 MHz and HD 500 GB a 5400-rpm1 or Mac Book Pro 13 Intel Core i7 Dual-core 2.8 GHz 8 GB SDRAM DDR3 1333 MHz - 2x4 GB Solid State 128 GB... so basically i dont know if it would be worth chaning the quad core for extra ram and solid state disk any advices, i want it to run CCIE labs
So I tried this with my new rig and crashed it. Afterwards I realized you are using a 3600 series which has a way smaller RAM requirement than the 3700. Once my PC hit 100% of physical memory used it stopped responding :/
@GNS3Vault Hi am planning to buy a phenom 2 x6 for my gns ccie security lab. How good is it for virtualisation? Could you tell me how much Memory do i need? Thank you
@TheNullBox A CPU like that will be more than fast enough, no problem to run VMWare or anything else. Each router in GNS3 will use roughly ~180MB I think. Memory is cheap nowadays so I would suggest to get 8 or 12GB...you'll be able to run plenty of routers and a couple of Virtual Machines.
That's g8t,thanks for your response,i did go through the video,would be working to have something like this for my own prep.Thanks again for the response.
@riteshnets your welcome. It's worth having a setup like this. I got rid of all my physical routers (except 1 or 2 for Qos/Voip/Wireless). good luck! Rene
@riteshnets Your sandy bridge I7 will be awesome for running GNS3. You need about 10 routers max for CCIE and that's a piece of cake. If you have 4GB of RAM your machine will fly.
@riteshnets An I5 will be more than fast enough. For memory you need roughly 200MB per router. I'm using an I5 for my own CCIE lab. If you want some inspiration look for my "CCIE Lab using GNS3 and Quad NICs for Switches" video.
@123456iambelial yes i used the root account since it was easier. I believe you can do with non-root but you have to change some stuff, didn't feel like trying it since this works fine.

Hey,can u help me to check what would be the support for intel sandybridge i7 -2600 processor and the recommended RAM for CCIE prep

@GNS3Vault ,thanks a ton for that lightning quick response.Can u also let me know if any i5 (23/24/2500) would help my cause ?

Hello GNS3Vault, I'm just wondering are you using the Root account when connecting to the cloud?
Also, how to configure the cloud (loopback, bridge to my network, real switches) in GNS3 Ubuntu?
Thanks

What OS are you running on?
What IOS and router model are you running?
What idlePC value are you using?
rednectarchris 1 year ago
@rednectarchris Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit , C3640-JK9O3S-M and idlePC value of 0x60503b94. CPU is an Intel I7 950

@GNS3Vault - thanks. One more - What version of C3640-JK9O3S-M (I'm guessing it is a 12.4(??))
rednectarchris 1 year ago
@rednectarchris yes it's the 12.4. I think you can do this on windows as well...just get a correct IdlePC value
