the european dark age they have inflicted all over the world is ending! islam will destroy capitalism/xtianity then the jews and muslims will destroy each other leaving the earth free of semitic relgions FOREVER
@larrythelurker Lullaby at twenty past seven, The child falls asleep, Falls asleep and has a good sleep, And wakes up tomorrow at day-break. Lullaby yesterday, lullaby yesterday, Shopping bags are not baskets, And baskets are not shopping bags, Life is not death, And death is not life. The song is already finished.
The imagining is terrible, but the burning itself, undoubtedly, is *inimaginably* excruciating. It burdens the heart to know how many times - right down to the present moment - this kind of routine cruelty was inflicted upon living, feeling beings. It makes it almost impossible not to hate mankind sometimes.
@Aberjan When someone retells a story they change what they like, its not massacring anything. Its just how its done. the movie is excellent, the book is too, they are different, and you are pathetic.
I just finished the book--along with the scene describing Jorge's final speech-- earlier today and this scene feels impossibly disjointed when you watch it alongside reading the book. Which is weird, because the scene in the book plays out exactly like it would in the movie, with one character muttering an offhand comment that leads to the Big Discovery. This version doesn't seem interested in how William arrived at his final conclusion.
hei jorge is pretty fast for a blind man;also in the book i'm amazed by his skills;the book is better;in the movie they cut the part with brunello the horse,i liked that part
the church never burned anyone it was the secular arm that did it since heresy back then was so bad it was considered worthy of death NOT by the church but by the ruling sovereign of the time
oh by the way if you're a heretic that means you are a Catholic who doesnt beleive what the church teaches if you speak against God or any holy things then you are a blasphemer
Hmmm yea tell that to the people who lived in the library of Alexandria when the christians went to burn all the books and kill anyone who knew to much in the classical ways of teaching... stop defending christianity, it has done this world so much pain.
All religions have done the world pain. Religion seems to be a magnet for extreme peoples and those types will never be content with divergence of oppinion. Religions and the people they attract will always be a source of malcontent and misaction until we as a species can see clear enough to elevate ourselves from such thinking.
I seriosly dont understand the renessance christians. Jesus clearly said love one another and yet they burn they burn their neighbors(other people). I mean like wtf? It's better that they don't do that any more now
If the Church still had the amount of power and influence as it did then, we would be seeing more of this. And it's not limited to the Catholic church. Consider the Salem witch trials.
Thank God (if he exists) for the age of reason supplanting condoned and willful ignorance. Look to the Muslim world, ruled by the very same things.
This is the face of religion harnessed as a weapon of terror and the censorship of progress.
Religion is a remnant of the ancient ages of despotism.
This is not the renaissance. The renaiccance was after the dark ages it was the rebirth of the classical studies lost after Rome declared christianity as the main religion and then Rome fell, and the great libraries that the kings of Egypt and Greece were burned.
Sorry, you guys are somewhat misinformed. The Dark Ages were prior to 1066. Renaissance was FUNDED by same scholars in the Middle Ages -- just as with the Franciscans in this movie. Classical studies netted us little in the way of progress: if anything, dependence on classical thought as inspiration was what held the church back. Renaissance was based on new thinking which medieval reformers were already pushing. Who do you think pushed the British Peasants Revolt? Socialists in the clergy.
@ScorpariusPictures They were seldom burned alive. It wasn't efficient. By burning their tortured, dead bodies that was considered punishment, their being denied full burial, intact. They were usually killed horribly, in advance.

The part where Jorge tries to run away with the book and lock them in is really intense in the book. Here, not so much.

This is extremly simplistic. The french revolution was a product of scientific rationality, and that did't stop of creating a reign of terror.
mudjinga 1 year ago
@mudjinga actually the french revolution was a product of the mob revolting against the excesses of the french aristocracy, nobility and monarchy.
