4 runners are the shit i have a 1990 4 runner sitn on 33 in thornbirds no snorkel no lift its all stock with 268,000 thousand miles on it it still has the original moter an tranie in it i pull out jeeps all day long i love it win they try an fallow me it never works they always get stuck i love my lil yoda
dude I aint sayin the 4bangers bad I know plenty about the 22re's, and having spent literally my whole life around 1st gen 4runners i can say the same about the 3vze's... you can put either one through vicious hell and they'll still come out runnin... unless a womans drivin. of course if your rockcrawlin', then I'd prolly go with a 22r, anything else 3vze. Despite popular belief that both are underpowered they still do fine offroad
'84 and '85 had the solid front axle, the only difference being '85 had fuel injection. If you want a Toyota 4x4 in Ready2Wheel format, 1985 is your ideal year. Lift, muddies, and a set of lockers and she's good to go.
What's up with the 4wd not working in reverse in the beginning? Must be using AUTO hubs that disconnect when you go in reverse. Crappy! Get manual lockers!
that's right, i've always defend toyota engines specially the indestructible 1hz so popular here in south america( inline 6 4.5 24 valves 225 hp 300ft torque) I have a 98 mitsu montero (pajero, shogun) with a v6 3000 but with 150 hp cause is a SOHC but it has a loooot of torque, and in 4x4 low it can tow a rig man, i´ve towed a ford sportrack stuck in a river with water up to the rear windows in just one attempt.I´ve a couple of vids of that, i'll upload some more later! good 4x4 action!
Man you seriusly need some lift in the back, you´ll burn yout tires without some lift back there, you already have your leaves over transmision, now you should try some 3" aluminum suplements between the transmision and the master leaf and big U screws to handle that, nice mudding for a 4 banger tho
I wasn´t being disrespectful man, I was just saying that it can move good for the weight of your truck, you don´t see a lot of that mudding, it´s always a big v8 or 6 cyl you see out there muddin´..
my brother had a 87 pickup with the 22re and that was the badest truck ever it was beter for muding than his 72 bronco with a 302!!! and just to throw it in the pickup had 234k miles on it and ran perfectly exept for drinking motor oil
yeah...22 re are known to drink oil but they dont break down ever.. u can blow a rod or piston and it will still run on the other cylinders. The 3.0 was a pretty good engine too,. My dad had a 4runner with the 3.0 and sold it when it had 312k on it. let me just say it still ran smooth when he sold it.
yep..it may be under powered but it has plenty of power and torque for all your heavy duty needs. .then he bought a 99 4runner with the 3.4 and i wrecked it in o7. That thing was bullet proof we had almost 150k with no problens ever!
yea my brother had one in his 95 pickup he bought later and said it didnt have that much more power than the 4 cylinder and drank to much gas. But now hes got a 3.4 in his 03 tacoma and i have a 3.4 in my 2000 4runner.
urrr i am jealous of u and your brother.. both are my most favortire vehicles int he world. my dad gave me his 99 and i ended up wrecking it.. urr!. Let me just say i loved it. I took it everywhere through everything and never failed me. Now i have a pathfinder which i also love very much check out my vids sometime...only three gay clips.

@IdipGrizzWintergreen Why would you want a 22r for rockcrawling ?! there is a reason that most people want there crawlers injected........
