Hey guys and girls. I'm a poet from Chicago. I have started a YouTube Channel to help get my work out there. Please take 5 minutes out of your day to check my stuff out. I update on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Like. Subscribe. Tweet. Your support is greatly appreciated!
this is so deep i first saw this at school because we are making poems at school and our teacher showed us this and gina loring you guys shoild watch her video
Ive probably watched this over 50 times in the last year and it still manages to give me the chills. In my opinion this is the greatest slam poem out there.
lol reading these comments for some its probably better not to say anything; like my mother says its better to shut up and leave others in doubt than to speak and remove all doubt hehe
I love Poetry so much. Hey if you guys love it too you can show your love by goin on this page i've made on facebook called "Potent Poetry". It's a place where I share my favourite masterpieces and a place where you can too!! Remember to like please thanks!!
Powerful words but sadly falling on deaf ears. Blacks are 17% of the US population and commit roughly 65% of all crime. You can blame it on what you like but no other minority comes close to those numbers. I'm not saying anything,it kust is what it is.
@NOMADdaf You have to understand why those statistics are the way they are. Im not trying to make an argument, but instead make you aware. The socio-economics that the majority of blacks are places in are unfair and unequal so it promotes thee actions. That is just the root in which a tree of problems is grown.. There are many other factors that come into play. Read up on criminology and understand why these statistics stand today.
@Whosteeno The socioeconomic arugment has been worn out just like the race card. There are more poor whites total than all of the blacks poor and not poor. and they still only commit a fraction or the crime. Most of the blacks I know make as much or more than I do. Hell they get jobs I can't BECAUSE they are black. They need to drop the excuses and start acting civilized.Stop walking like they have a broken leg, pull up their damn pants ' and learn the god damn language! You may be shocked!
@NOMADdaf So what point are you trying to make? Crime is not the focus of the poem, the positive things he has learned as an individual, and the things he can share to make young people's lives better is the focus. The statistics you quote are meaningless without further examination. The CRIMINAL ELEMENT in our community commit 65% of recorded crime, which is in no way connected to the fact that 17% of Amercians are black. Falling on deaf ears?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@Maxcraft1 Ok I don't know what video you watched but the whole point is that his father was in prison so he raised him self.As for crime the criminal element commits 100% of the crime you tool. But when you 175 of the population commits 65% of the crime that is disproportional. As for the socio-economic crap, more than 17% of whites are also poor and they don't commit 65% of the crime. The deaf ears are the ones that will hear this and keep up the negative behavior.
@NOMADdaf 17% of whites? If we're comparing like-for-like, let's see, what % of the total US population is that? Are they commtting the other 35% of crime? That sounds like a lot of people committing a lot of crime. Either way, I feel you are making sweeping statements and pointing fingers at whole groups of people. Hitler had a similar problem. I just like good poetry. And that's not a crime, so don't include me in your stats. If you don't like the poem, don't listen to it. No reply needed.
@NOMADdaf 17% of whites vs. 17% of U.S. population... hmm you make them sound equal but they're not near equal. And it's kind of racist when you say "17% of whites are ALSO poor" assuming all african americans are poor.
@NOMADdaf actually Maxcraft1 is right the poem is not about crime or being black for that matter, it is about the future generations making better choices and not necessarily following in the steps of our elders. I see where your confusion is coming from however he is speaking through an example of an experience he has had or at least how that advice came to be, his father being in prison is entirely beside the point
@Leemasaur Unfounded? Facts are facts. I see you name calling but I don't hear any reasoned argument!?! Am I surprised? Not in the least. And so the cycle continues. All whities are evil and all blacks are poor victims. The jews were wronged on an unprecedented level in the 40's, do you hear them bitching 60 years later? Are they filling our prisons?
@NOMADdaf I'm not an internet troll; I like to read books, understand the unfairness and importance of socio-economic context and not make ridiculous crime claims on poetry videos. But you, you're doing great at what you're doing. Don't stop.
@NOMADdaf Dude, your a fucking idiot. This video is not about Blacks committing crimes. It's about Mr. Beaty growing up without a father and still becoming a grown ass man. Just because you hear Black and jail in the same poem you automatically assume it's about Blacks being gangsters and criminals. You are incredibly ignorant, fool. Ever heard of racial profiling? Ever heard of not having another way out? Ever heard of dealing drugs to support 3 kids? Take your bullshit stats and fuck off.
