Definitely seems sad. He sounds like someone who has made acting his life but his peak success was back when he was a teenager and everything he's done since then has been (in his mind) trivial by comparison. Even a movie like Harold and Kumar where he stole the show, it was playing "himself" that made it work. He can't escape the TV "baggage."
