The idle sounds really poor, almost like a soup can V8. It sounds better driving away at the end. Perhaps it was just warming up and running rich. As an older model, it was likely carbs and a single set of valves. I agree with others, the older more simplified body is better, before they went crazy in the 80's with the ultra flair kits and jutting bumpers. Don't get me started about Chrysler's 25 anniv. edition. Skip the Diablo, the Murcielago is truly the best follow up.
Lamborghini's now and yes I HAVE NEVER owned one!!! LOL!!! look horrible!! I think the last thing Lamborghini made that was half way cool was the Diablo!!! everything after that looks bad!!!
It's not a replica, it is a real ultra rare Countach LP400. This was the first version of the Countach ever made. This is the car that indeed forced Ferrari to go mid engined with the 365 BB Boxer. Before this car came along, Lamborghini kicked off the mid engined revolution with the Muira while Ferrari soldiered on with the Daytona.
Often, the first of any model is the purest....... this doesn't have all the horrible wheel arches and spoilers glued to it like the later 80's ones have.
I agree 100%. The original LP400 (74-78) is THE Countach. I've always loved it the best and I still think it's the best looking Lamborghini of all time... it's the only one I really want.
Yea,.. that version is the countach in its purest form. Its even lacking the 13 inch width wheels. Anyone know the Hp rating for the 400S? If i'm remembering correctly its around 375hp. Not sure though.
I mainly prefer cars from my generation, in looks and in terms of driving, practicality and just about everything else. Mc F1, Ferrari F355, Porsche 928 are probably my all time favorites. But the LP400s I think are as good looking, if not slightly better than all those I just mentioned. a lot of mordern cars just look flash, or badass, or all chromed up and decadent. This is none of those and is the true meaning of the word awesome.
That's your opinion. Mine's different. I believe the early countach is still the best looking supercar ever. It threw the rule book away & everything since has just been a poor imitation.
IMHO, the Murcielago is the peak so far. It looks a lot like the Countach but a little more smoothed out. The Gallardo just doesn't seem right though.
That's my point. The Murcielago is 'smoothed out'. It's a bland Countach...a countach without testicles. It looks too German, too clinical. It doesn't have the WOW factor of the original Countach.
You're only young. No offence but you have to remember, the Countach came out in the early 70s. I remember the impact it made. It looked like nothing else on planet earth. Supercars today are just pale repeats of the originals (Miura & Countach)
I agree entirely with that. I wish car designers had the balls they used to. As far as impact goes, the Countach wins by miles. But as far as the car I'd want to buy? Murcielago.
That's fair comment. People tend to favour the cars from their own era, that's why the Countach ticks all my boxes (especially the LP400 without the later wheel arches & wing etc).
@phantom5573 I agree. I don't like the AWD Lambos. So even if I had the money I would never buy a Murcielago or a Gallardo. Except for the Balboni Gallardo. I actually find that car quite awesome:)
The Murcielago is not a REAL full blooded Lamboghini. It is an Audi with Lamborghini badges on it. It may sound like one, and may look like one, but unless it was built under Ferruccio Lamborghini, it really isn't a TRUE Lamborghini.
Well, in my opinion none of these modern Lamborghinis are real full blooded Lamborghinis. They don't have the same qualities that a Lamboghini built under Ferruccio has. Todays lamboghinis are almost completely the work of parent company Audi. The engines are Audi developed and shared with Audi sedans and the Audi R8, the drivelines, transmissions, and interiors are all Audi dervived. Even the styling is sedated in true Audi fashion. There is no Ferruccio passion in these cars at all,
Plus, I doubt if any of the modern Lamborghinis have the same driving feel as a Ferruccio era Lamborghini. I've heard that Countachs are really hard to drive. The cockpits are cramped, and the controls are murderous to use. This is how a Lamborghini is supposed to be. It takes a certian amount of skill to drive a classic Ferruccio era Lamborghini correctly. Now thanks to Audi, anyone can drive one. This you might argue that this might increase the appeal of the cars to a greater customer..
Basis, but then it takes away from the appeal of one to the true enthusiast. That is the problem with supercars today. In the old days, they were built only for those who could afford, and drive them correctly or at least fairly well. Now unfortunately, they build them so any one can drive one.
I agree and disagree with you. Yes, some character has gone, but reliability and practicality was gained. And remember that if it wasn;t for the Germans stepping in then Lamborghini probably wouldn't even exist today. So if it's a choice between a watered down Lambo and no Lambo..I take the watered down one. And also remember that Volkswagen group said they would not touch ANYTHING except input in engineering and quality control. It is still built and designed in Italy.
I see your point as well. Lamboghini is not the only exotic car company that has lost some of either. Ferrari has lost some of the Enzo magic, Porsche some of the Dr and Ferry magic. If I had to I'd settle for a Murcielago or a gallardo. I'd turn on my heel and reject them if a Jet Black on Black Countach was available, or a bright colored Muira, or any classic Lambo. Wouldn't you agree.
I agree with you completely. The idiocy on YouTube is appauling. I mean come on eveybody has their opinion, and a right to it. There is not reason why people should be writing such absolute hatred. I've seen people call each other names, threaten their well being, insult their mothers, use racial slurs among other things, and it is repulsive. I try and be as polite as possible to other peoples feelings. I might start a small arguement but if it get to far out of hand, I just let it go.
But carrying on from that thought...I'm afraid the world has changed. Passion isn;t enough to keep a manufacturer making cars nowadays. It has to be a viable business. Thus we have cars made with the head as awell as the heart. People today want to take their supercars to the supermarket (Porsche 911)...that means practicality and reliability...gone the days of retuning every 4,00 miles. Supercars were a weekend car once....a rare beast...no more. Oh well.
I know exactly what you mean. In fact to quote Mr. Jeremy Clarkson when he was testing the new Ferrari 599 GTB vs a Ferrari 275 GTS, which I might add is a beautiful vintage car, he said " The 599 is a wonderful car, but it is just a bucket load of computer chips, I respect like I respect the technology in my Ipod, but I don't love it. If I were going to spend 275,000. pounds, I'd buy a Ferrari 275 GTS because it is flare and style and passion. So when you drive it once a year maybe, it makes
it makes you feel special. I couldn't agree with him more. I would rather drive an older car then a newer one. For example, a 1973 Porsche 930 turbo with the flared fenders, a Black/Black Countach or a Ferrari 512 BB, unreliabilty and be damned. I wouldn't want to drive a newer exotic for fear of dare I say "blending In" if that makes sense. I mean if you've seen one gallardo you've seen most all of them.
Oh man, a beautiful example of an LP400 by the looks of it. I love the absense of spoilers and the old wheels. This is the Countach I'd by if I could afford one. Forget the 500, QV 5000 S or the Anversary addition, this is the really Countach.
wait so you followed it around for that long?

It sounds like a kit car. 've never hears a Countache that sounds like that.

Thank God that it doesn't have the rear fin. The fin completely contradics the lines of the countach.
