Ok so basically you need to replace the Thermal gel then let your xbox over heat to bond it then it works again. So this is just Mircosoft using crappy materials to make their product. Does this work for 4 red rings or just the 3?

i have a problem i hope some1 might help me out with this one. i did everything it said on the video except that i used small washers instead of the clamps and i get 2 red lights after all of that work. The weird thing is that when i have my xbox opened and laid down it works fine, but when i put it back together i get 2 red lights after a few seconds when i turn on my xbox. any ideas what to do???

@VaidasK1 You need to play around with the washers to get them not too loose or not too tight, the xbox isnt registering the presence of the heatsinks, causing the 2 red rings.

xbox 360 are so poorly made when it comes to the CPU and GPU i have a method witch completely rrod proof the 360 i revised and rebuild my xbox mobo with great results and the failier rate has gone from 60% to just 10% it was an rrod xbox but fixed no rework no x-clamp no heat gun for towel <<< ALL CRAP AND ONLY BY TIME 1 MONTH AT THE MOST

in addition to my last comment, your gunna have to drill out a nice 1/4 (quarter) inch hole where the black screws would normally go to compensate for the long heat sink screws. :)

ok i have the real reason why. its the cpu. the X claps push up on the cpu makeing the connection bad. so heres what you do. the screws you have that are used for the heat sinks remove them and instead of putting in the way microsoft did, put the heat sinks on with the screws off them, and from the back of the mother board, screw into heat sinks. this ensures that the cpu is firmly clamped.mines been working fantastic ever since.drill out crew holes.thumbs up if you've tried this and it works.

I did the damn towel trick a couple of weeks ago and it worked, but like they said, it would only be temporary. Now I want to find a long term solution.

@nower3008 Buy a new fan, TALISMOON has OEM replacement fans that are more efficient and quieter they sale them at AMAZON for 15.99 and they come in various colors. I kept trying to do the RROD fix only to find out one of my fans weren't working. REPLACE THE FAN FIRST. Oh and the Talismoon fan come with BOTH a four pin and three pin connector.

@MrZefan some need more heat than others ,i use a heat gun ,there are some videos on here but like any fix there is a risk ,also check xbox reballing ,thats a proper fix ,but you need the expensive tools , a heat gun is the second best fix but my console still red lights after a couple of months of hard gamming running for ten hours at a time ,i learnt by watching the reballing videos that the gpu is the problem and i only heat around it ,after warming the board up so not to buckle ,

for the x-clamp fix you dont need to drill or buy any screws or washers, all you need is arctic silver and your t \screw driver,when you take off the sinks leave the studs on the sinks, after you clean of put the board back in and screw in the your middle size screws for the board,put on the arctic and put the sink on, hold the sink and turn the board with the bottom frame over, and screw the small black screws in the studs and put back together, it is easier and more simple than drilling

I let it overheat like you do until the 3 red lights turns into 2 red lights, and then turn it off and wait for about 20 min for it to cool down before turning it on, this time with fans plugged in, and its back to the 3 red lights again. Any clues whats wrong? Could it be that it didnt overheat respectively cool down enough?
