Nice train! I visited japan in 2009 and travelled in the shinkansen a couple of times, very nice trains. I absolutly love japan, I want to travel again soon :D
I love Japan people for many things, most of all are animes and beautiful trains. Dear Santa please let Blugaria's BDZ open their eyes and imort something this beautiful !
How can u say it's beautiful? it's a BIG SHIT! Just one example: look at the headlights! They are too close to the conductor's seat. So, when there is fog, all he sees is just 2 beams of white light; nothing else. A good train must have at least 6 headlights, in different positions. This way, on foggy whether, the conductor can still see something, and the beaming effect gets cancelled... And this is just one example.
The conductor's station on an 8-car Kodama is in carriage six.
And it doesn't matter where the headlights are located on the locomotive -- as a train driver, I can tell you that they all -- headlights, visibility (ditch) lights, marker lights, classification lights, number-board lights -- get reflected back in the driver's face by the fog
I would definitely put my trust in Japanese engineering. Their cars are the most reliable in the world. Germans are not far behind. Isn't the Chinese system of German manufacture?
Do love the howling noise the Eurostar (TGV technology) makes as it rushes through the Kent countryside.
Most beautiful train ever :) For the Chinese and US guys here, i have only one comment, first learn, then do it better, until that time, ....schut up ! Oh and best way to do it better is a Maglev !
I want this one in Thailand too T_T. JR Please come to help Thailand to build high speed rail system. China plan to build high speed rail via Thailand to Singapore. But I want Japanese bullet train more than low quality China bullet train..... >_<
i agree, one of the best looking japan has made, its a shame the 700k its older brother if you like, isn't as good looking, its nice and comfy though =)
@dashish80 I THINK THAT THE BULLET TRAIN IS ONE OF THE LAST THINGS THAT INDIA SHOULD ASK JAPAN FOR . INDIA'S PROBLEMS START AT WORDS SUCH AS : "FAMINE" , "POVERTY" , "EMPLOYMENT" , "INFRASTRUCTURE" AND SO ON.......
@WMUWWWWUF Infrastructure, which includes railroads, which is a medium of travel for bullet trains, which is a form of public transportation for a [large] country in which I imagine a vast majority of people can't afford to buy their own vehicles. Oh yeah, did I mention that bringing such a service to India could bring many more jobs for building high speed tracks, maintenance, etc.., while potentially being a great source of revenue since India has the world's 2nd largest population?
@AF401 I came to Japan a month and a half later. And now with the N700系 running all the way to Kagoshima on the Sakura and Mizuho services, I don't see the 500系 staying around any longer.
A phenomenal train - but unfortunately, NOT comfortable to ride. I rode them twice and found them very cramped on the inside, even when seated in the middle (B) or aisle (D) seats in 5-abreast Standard Class.
What I find remarkable about the companies operating the Shinkansen is that they always look for ways to improve. The N700-series has the speed of the 500's, an unprecedented (for Shinkansen) tilt system for smoother curves, and an unprecedented level of comfort.
@vilhelmcasp I think the reason why the US doesn't have these like Japan or France is because there are so much more miles of track in the US that the cost would be astronomical to modify all of it. Not to mention trains like these need dedicated track and that too would be very expensive. That's why I think trains like these are perfect for small to medium sized countries and not huge ones like America or Canada.
@phillyslasher Japan is roughly the same size als france and callifornia, callifornia is busy with constructing a high speed rail network. I believe based on japanese high-speed rail technology.

Cool train. Thumbs up! :)

@gracieu8888:
the Shinkansen 500 serie reached 443 km/h in a test run WITHOUT modifies.
The TGV V150, instead, broke the world speed record after have been heavy modified.
If the same technical modifies were applied to the Shinkansen 500 it could have reached the world speed record.
Infact, even without modifies, it is more powerful than any other high speed train in the world.

Not bad, but I still prefer the Mallard. Which did 126mph. In 1938.

ventrue1 2 years ago
