Little Brother is the most random, off key and atonal beat ever. It sounds like a little fog banging on buttons on the mpc.
These beats are soft as marshmellows, I can't ever see this being played in da clubs. This ain't hip hop -- this is elevator music!
Lex Luger 1 Jay Dilla 0
Lex is a much better producer. J Dills's beats are just boring soul loops with some boom bap drums added. Lex Luger won the best producer award at the BMI urban awards 2011.

Awesome sample of Roy Ayers' Aint Got Time. Since J Dilla was a huge fan of Peter Rock, I'm guessing he got inspired listening to The Main Ingredient. Peter Rock & CL Smooth used it in one of the many outros on that album.
@gkyazze He did. Try googling "questlove on j dilla and making of little brother" for a very interesting interview with Questlove talking about Jay Dee on this very track.
@bertilipsen - Thanks a bunch for that bit of info chief. I just listened to the ?uestlove interview. Fascinating stuff! I grew up on Old School Hip Hop and by the time I graduated from college in the very late 90s, the music was starting to sound stale. Unfortunately for me, that was probably around the time J Dilla's career really took off. It's only now that I'm starting to appreciate how talended he was.

@nickybaby77 Word, I thought the same thing too. I've been listening to this track for years, and i never knew he made it. His fingerprints are everywhere.
@joe5head but i 1st heard this track on the Pete Rock & CL album Mecca & the Soul Brother. It's on of the excerpts, I think at the end of the 1st track. Anyway, the sh*t is dope regardless!
Little Brother did an incredible interview for a book thats called -HOW TO .RAP where they broke down their thoughts on rhyming and how they do it... book also got hold of Pharcyde, Tribe, Del, PE, Souls of Mischief, Kane, looooads of the illest MCs ever, its a really indepth book
I just heard this joint for the first time last week & i thought it was a new joint recently released. Then my folks told me this came out back in 2000 & i slept on it. Good joint.
There's no official "revolution" Mos and Talib are referring to. It's more of an allusion to the need for black people to break through society's hurdles and create better lives for themselves.

@iMReCKLeSS22 Lol, everyone has their favs, I just stated mine, In the order I like...I think it's the era I grew up in, I was a young kid in the 80's, and i came of age in the 90's, an era that I consider to be a vintage era of hip hop. So to each it's own. There are many more deserving producers out there, but they all can't be my favs. That's why there's a distinction. We still have the same top 3, I just like Premier more lol
@thickcocogrl79 fair enough. I'd have him in my top 3 for sure but yeah its difficult to kick pete rock or preemo out haha! but dam the guys got his own one man jazz band. and then you got producers like his little bro oh no and black milk who are rising.

SONG IS FUCKNG DUMB!!!
Ive never heard it before, I only saw the movie earlier this year. The song sounds like they just made it
Mos and Talib connect with each other really well
As for Dilla, him dying is just too serious.
He had a style that no else could have or duplicate. He took it with him in his grave
and none of us will ever hear it again.
He retired as the King of Beats.
I wonder how his music would of sounded now?????????????????????????????????????
RIP James Yancey
