Emperor returned with Anthems, Burzum returned, In the woods came back with a new epic album, Borknager released the amazing Olden Domain, Obtained Enslavements 'Witchcraft' album, and Solefalds ground breaking Linear Scaffold album.

This album always reminds me a bit of Into the Pandemonium by Celtic frost.They're similar.Odd vocals styles used both by Garm and Tom g warrior.Female voices,odd song's structures.Different and unusual instruments.

But European bands indeed use to keep practically the same pace as the begining, whereas here in the whole America bands use to bend to another ways of composing sometimes to follow the profitable mainstream, or even worse (can it get worse???!!!), loosing all the original members until it draws its own end... unfortunately it happens here and lots of good bands here ended even before being known...

I agree, but there have been very few good bands on the whole in the past 10 years. Its because most metal that's popular now consists of screaming or poor production. In addition the so called 'thrash revival' has produced very few good thrash bands- most are metalcore influenced thrash which is not the same thing. Still its good that the all the best metal bands are still going, which is more than can be said for a lot of musicians in other genres.

If there is a good band it will never become famous because all of the kids are into talentless mindless shredding and screamo/core music. America put death to Death Metal when the first Death Core band became popular here, Now every band is one.

I just love that whole 96, 97- 2000 music scene in metal. So many fresh ideas came out, and cool bands like Thyrfing made albums Valdr galdr, and Forlorns crystal palace.

It was when I discovered all these experimental bands like In the woods, ved buens ende and Dodheimsgard. A very exciting time. Sadly after 2000, I found alot of metal bands got abit mundane with the Death/black metal revival, but they're getting interesting again thank god.
