dont try to make generalities about bands if you have no idea about their songwriting. Metallica often (by often I mean almost always) goes beyond 3 mins and does alternate time signatures from 4/4. See master of puppets / and justice for all albums. Disposable heroes riff for example, DEFINITELY not 4/4. And Justice for All is one of the greatest thrash albums ever made. greatest albums aren't made in 4/4 concerning metal and related musical fields.
