  • WTF :O:O ZOMBIE !!!!!:O:O:O

  • Lol im do this dance Lol

  • magnificent! :)

  • Absolutely spectacular. Bravo to the extraordinary choreography--I love the hands especially--and to the lovely lady that really brought it to life.

  • the lady is so gracious...

I have just started learning Contemporary style and the ease with which she performed those moves is truly adorable...

  • wow. This is... wow

  • ITS BEAUTIFUL <3

  • is it right that there are no rules for modern dance?

  • @Zeldaaagirl oh no...there are rules. Well not so much as rules, but there are specific techniques that make modern dance unique and different from your ordinary 'contemporary' movement. There are rules in accordance to the technique you are using. You can't just throw yourself around and make up moves and call it modern. There's definately a technique to it. For instance, Graham technique uses contractions and vulnerability of the neck in modern dance.

  • @jerafro thank you very much for this information :)

  • @Zeldaaagirl you are very welcome :) Actually modern dance's roots are in classical ballet. Modern dance was formed basically out of rebellion from classical ballet, so if you look closely, you can see a lot of balletic movements within modern dance.

  • @Zeldaaagirl And horton technique, which is the style that Alvin Ailey uses, uses flat-backs, and is angular, and everything is long and straight. Cunningham is basically ballet but with a twist...like a literal twist.

  • the details... her hands and fingers are beautiful :)

  • she's amazing :)

  • Amazing!

  • MODERN DANCE!!!!! HERE YOU ARE!

  • that was beautiful i luved it

  • Why do modern dancers dance all weird and don't go with the beat of the music? Those dance moves are weird!!!! Not to offend anybody I just want to understand the purpose and why people think it's beautiful.

  • @rana131527 if u was a modern dancer n have danced for a audience and understood the music or the concept of the dance u would know why ...every dance tells a story

  • @XxxSugarBaybeexxX Actually I have danced for audiences and I have taken classes before (I'm actually taking one this year too) I just don't understand those weird over dramatic movements.

  • @rana131527 I understand on a gut level why we do these "wierd" movements. This kind of dance is like speaking another language. It is so necessary and so satisfying to watch. It is like I meet someone from my planet. It is kind of like Experimental music which does not go with the beat.

  • I love the way you express yourself trough the song. It is just beautiful. Who is the singer?

  • Very Nice!

  • Sooo beautiful!

  • This is pure art! Does anybody know the name of this song? :) thanks!

  • fantasric wonderful.I never get tired of watching it!

  • SERIOUSLY!!! THIS WAS GOOD!!!

  • 18 ppl missed the like button

  • What a beautiful dancer.

  • I find myself coming back to this video often. The detail in in her smallest of movements is breathtaking.

  • I love how you started outside of the light and it was as if you were forced to go into the light; great foot work! I can feel the power and emotion from this dance just by watching it! very nice

  • Lovely...

  • nice ass.. its.. tight.

  • this dance is so cool i love it... but some one told me the name of the song is so nice...

  • Amazing performance.

    Wish the video was better

  • very nice work!!!

p.s.=whats the name of that song?

  • @vikoulii i forgot the name of the song but it by Geoffrey Oryema, the album is called Exile

  • Crab people, Crab people, look like people, dance like Crab...

  • very inspiring movement! thank you!

  • Thank you for your wonderfull uploud, it was good to see that dance.

  • I think this is the nicest thing I've seen in a while......

I'm a Ballet kid.... I don't have any huge issues....

  • Woow, this is beautiful.

  • Does it take years and years to reach this level of dance - im curious. I know nothing about dance . . . . but what an absolute pleasure to watch.

  • @plastabrick

It does take sometime to reach a proficient level of Contemporary Dance [or Modern: they're the same, relatively, with the only difference being that they're called one or the other based on where you live... Contemporary in Canada!!!]

However, if you have never danced, Contemporary work is still never beyond you. Paul Taylor started dancing in University, as did I. I found it easier not having had any previous background. The Ballet kids had huge issues, believe me!

  • I've seen this video like 20 times and it still not bores me and it still touches me!!! i love it

  • nice .....work...it would be nice if with the face show...because the face reaction makes the performence different...I mean more better...

  • more lyrical then modern

  • verry beautiful .... lines , mouvements , fluidity ....... i was drawn to follow her every step . nice work .

  • Wow , she is wonderful ! yosoccerboy : where is the soul, eh ?!

  • i'm impressed...

  • very beautiful performance

  • i love your lines and technique coming across in this beautiful choreography. your lyrical qulaity of movement to the music and ease while dancing makes it really pleasurable to eatch this.

    keep up the good work

  • title says it all!

  • ya name of song??

  • what's the name of this song??

  • Exile -Geoffrey Oryema

  • Im rly sry bout this, but I find it kinda boring...^-^;;

    Sry to fans of this!!!

  • im a modern dancer!! and ballet!!! and tap!

  • who cares?

  • hahahaha exactly

  • than why did you even click on it?? lol

  • This is really beautiful... I have two questions.. who choreographed this dance and what is the music?

You are an inspiration to modern dancers!

    Beautiful!

  • I love the distortion mixed with grace that your beautiful technique allows you to play with. Beautiful lines and feet, and musicality is so well executed in your performance. You made me relaxed and tense at the same time. You captured me! Technique is not dead! Thank you for this wonderful display of true dance artistry and execution. And remember, always dance like no one is watching! Congradulations! Your amazing!

  • i love this, ugh. who sings the song?

  • Viruses dance better and more entertaining.

  • This is brilliant. I'm sure you spiteful comment is simply rooted in jealousy. Why watse your time being negative?

  • Because it's desirable?

  • haha, xD

  • i like this!

  • hammer geil !

  • Its such an excellent performance, i wished i could dance such, i was only an absolutely beginner, lol ,this tension she has in her body, she permutes brilliantix modern dance elements with a bir classical ballet influences..

  • I love it!!

  • it was beautiful! the camera going in and out was very distracting and took away from the dancing a little.

  • stunning xx

  • wow. It was sooo beautiful (:

  • amaaaaaaaaaaazing!!! she keeps it so fun; humorous - which turns it into pure brilliance !!! love it love it love it.

  • Wow..just....

    wow

    Ryuichi

  • i love when you can tell that a dancer has great technical training without all the tricks and crazy leaps and whatnot.. this was a perfect example of that. very well done.

  • agreed.

  • yea and you can deff tell here

  • brilliant!

  • Beautiful.

  • it's amazing full of expression. and nice to see :D

  • даа, до партера все было очень даже ничего))

  • That was amazing. The power and energy put into it was phenomenal. This is, without a doubt, the best modern dance I've seen.

  • Brava....

  • this is what i call art

  • that was awesome = )

  • that was nice! :))

  • <3 modern. beautiful technique.

  • Amazing extension, beautifully executed.. I am very impressed with the emotional interpretation in the choregraphy. It was a wonderful and talents addition to videos i have seen. Clearly one of the best as far as tachnique is concerned. Impressive, continue on and make the world proud.

  • amazing.

  • this is the kind of dance i have always imagined.

  • wow!!! this is really really nice!!! now is this from the school Suny-Purchase??? cuz if it is, i want to audition there for next year!!!!

  • beautiful fan kick tho.

  • Its ohkay but some parts she just looks a little spastic.

  • wat level is she?

  • I love this it's wonderful. I love modern dance

  • absolutely beatiful...

  • gorgeous!

  • There were so many beautiful elements to this dance - graceful hands, great lines and intricate details in the choreography - just Beautiful.

  • Geoffrey Oryema - Exile

  • Beautiful and melancholic..uncomparable...I am truly amazed by the style of a dancer

  • Doesn't it look like she's devolving--regressing to an ape? She curls up ape-like and then flexes out again, then holds her arm behind her back like she's in bondage. It's like she's expressing how humans restrict themselves from exploring the natural world. The dancer keeps trying to by holding her ear to the earth and opening herself up to the sky/sun, but something holds her back. I think the song was picked because Africa sort of represents the origins of homo-sapiens. I have no idea. . .

  • i agree

did she get the moves of her kids???

she looks like she was begging for bread

  • but thats wat's so beautiful about it

a simple isolation of the wrist and people

get confused and dont kno how to respond

to me that is wat dance is... something new

and yet beautiful, and c'mon u werent staring

at her hands the hole time, who does that?

  • I think so...

  • does anyone know what song this is???

    Thanks

  • what song is this?who is it by?

  • I LOVE IT

  • One of the best performances I've ever seen. absolutely beautiful.

  • absolutely gorgeous.

  • no offence? That's like punching someone and telling them to not feel any pain. Doesn't work that way my friend. Saying "no offence" is not your get of jail for free card.

  • no I don't and neither do the 4 others who felt your comment was mean.

  • breathtaking....beautiful! i love how she uses her hands, the gestures are a powerful addition to splendid choreography.

  • I could watch this over and over...

  • please tell us what the song is? we have asked like 10times...

  • The music is from Geoffrey Oryema, from Uganda

  • very very good... and the isolations are awesome!

  • its like the music and her dancing is telling a story and the way she left in the end was like something out of the grudge

  • this is amazing.

her moves are effortless. and beautiful!

  • Hello !

    Congratulations, it's really marvelous...

Can you telle me what is the song please?

    thanks

  • Egy kicsit akadoik Konicsiva

  • Omg.. this was so beautiful.. I like the was her body moves, the way she contracts then release it to the maximum.. I'll never be that good in modern dancing haha xD

  • i like the shapes that she creates.... and she can effortlessly lift her legs! very nice

  • THAT WAS beautifal...!

  • This is the most important in dance. It seems to do so easy, but....

  • Her extension and lines are effortless.

  • Surrealism in dance! it's very beautiful

  • great song... who is this and what's the title?

  • I never get Modern Dance. Dancers uese there body to tell a story, but I never seem to understand the story. Last week my class went to a play and it had modern dance and singing in it. I still don't know what the story was about. The movements are sometimes so weird and sometimes soo beautiful. I guess that's why I kept watching.

  • the movement is loveley and she is a great dancer. i think the music choice is the weakness. if there was a funky beat or something i think it would convey an idea or a texture more clearly

  • i found the choreography lackluster and uninspired. the dancer clearly has technique, but doesn't convey any feeling. now i don't know if that's just the choreography or the dancer or both.

  • I really like how she uses her entire body to tell this story, employing various speeds, forwards, backwards... definitely makes me think of what I'll do on my next solo.

  • The dancer would do really well in Fagan's company.

  • Not my taste at all, she doesn't fully involve her spine and use it as a tool for organizing the rest of her body so she loses the 3D space behind her and around her.

  • This is modern dance - to reflect human psychology directly without the restriction of the tradition.

    Her dance hits my soul!

  • Well, it doesn't do that either for me, probably because my sense of sight hasn't been stimulated by clear engaging movement. Perhaps if it could do that minimal tiny job of stimulating my sight I could move beyond into letting it "touch me"....

  • not my type of modern dance...it odd..but good job anyway! (its kinda too jerky and flexed feet for me, i guess i am more of the ballet type..)

  • so beautiful and emotional.

do anyone know where to find this music?

  • Who dances?

  • This is really intellegent choreography. Well composed.

  • what is the name of this song? its beautiful

  • I love that graceful Cheng-fang Wu

  • Amazing.

  • do you know the title or the artist of the song.

beautiful dance with elegant choreo. You have a very fluid style that is very meticulous. Quite enjoyable and pleasant to watch.

  • Beautiful dance!! You're really good. But I have to say, I hate the song! But good Job!!!

  • Anyone who enjoyed this might also like the video entitled Contents May Have shifted. The details on that page describe the video as follows- Choreographed by Janis Brenner, featuring company member Kyla Barkin for "Janis Brenner & Guests: A 25th Anniversary Celebration" at Danspace Project, February 2007. Music by Clifton Aird Hyde. Costume by Janis Brenner/Russell Aubry. Lighting by Mitchell Bogard.

  • flawless, u go girl! xx

  • beautiful dance, beautiful lady

  • This is fantastic! Thanks for posting!

  • What's that song?

  • so beautiful...

    what's this music please??

  • *applauds* So very well done! Loved the music, loved all the little minute hand gestures, turn of a foot etc. It was all very well choreographed and very musically/emotionally danced. Bravo!

  • My mom put me in ballet classes when I was four... I always found it so rigid. Then I discovered modern and fell in love. Now myself and a few friends have combined En pointe with modern dance and come up with some very interesting stuff. This is a beautiful dance. I love it, and the music works really well too...

  • teccett

  • very nice ! great dancing

    Strange music for this though....

  • stunning... simply breathtaking!
