It's one of the things you can do in Story Mode.

yes, but in story mode you travel from island to island, so in the middle of traveling you can save, and upgrade weapons to unlock specials or make food to increasethe size of your characters hp and sp meters, though both of these require you to find material from islands. also, as you can see, you get to view the entire thousand sunny in a 3d view. this game has alot more action/ adventure, this isnt the only thing in story mode. you should check out more gameplay videos
