My great, great grandfather was Captain Nelson M. Holderman and was in this battle with his men. He recievied the Medal of Honor for his men and from what I can tell the movie seems pretty accurat. I can't even begin to understand what that must have been like for those soldiers.

Colonel Nelson M. Holderman was considered the most decorated soldier of WWI and reading his citation for the MOH is very sobering indeed.

Great piece of war history, if you consider anything great about war.

I watched The Piuanist and I'm 100% Polish. Soviet Union invated Poalnd together with Nazi germany but 2 weeks later - on 17 september 1939. Then they came again in 1945 - mass deportation of Poles to the Sybir, Katyn massacre, mass arrests of Polish resistance movement etc. Read what Soivets did to Poles from 1939 to 1989. Soviets didn't liberate anyone, it was jsut new terrible regime for us.

Thing is, the americans may have been good fighters, and would rival us if given enough time, but they were, in general, a bit stupid. In WW2, they got cleverer. Then in vietnam they went dumbass again... then cleverer... then in came mr Bush and things went lower than they had ever gone before... now obama is here and they'll get cleverer. so that's why in WW2, 9 out of 10 German soldiers that died, died on the eastern front? the U.S. were an important factor at the end of world war 1 but not critical, Germany's supply lines were cut, many of their troops had notoriously low morale, plus no tanks. The U.S. was more important in WW2, and were effective against an outnumbered and scattered Japanese force. Had the U.S. not entered in WW1 it would have most likely ended in stalemate thus avoiding treaty of Versailles and Hitler...

again i doubt this, as since only a fraction of the German army was able to hold up the allies other than Russia, the Russians and Germans had a MUCH more brutal fight, and Russia had giant losses, both beacuse as you said they were fairly wasteful with men in some noted cases, but also because they were in so many battles, by the time u get to Kursk, as well as many other lesser known eastern front battles german and Russian casualties even out, and dwarf those of the western front

Russians defended who? Russians always butchered Poles never defended them idiot. In WW1 Poland was cutted into three pieces among Russia, Prussia and Austro-Hungary. from 123 years... In 1918 Poland got it independence after 123 years of occupation. Russia defended itself in the war, nobody else.

Well, let's see. The Somme was basically a muddy stand-off. Hardly a move was made between the allies and Germans. At Verdun, the Brits and French get their asses handed to them. Same thing at Bellou Wood and Chataeu Thierry...until the Americans come in a blow throw the German lines like a fire storm. Why, you ask? Because of what our Army and Marines learned in the Civil War. Yep, Civil War tactics beat the pants off of modern European tactics and won the war!
