This is great ukami though.. for those who are useing as evasive manouvers.. think smaller and be more of a ball.. anything sticking out.. will be cut and lossed if the opposing fighter is skilled at all...
I found Mae Ukemi very easy, but Ushiro Ukemi was pretty weird - it was easy the first time I tried it, and the Senpai even told me I did it right, but then I magically forgot how to do it and would get huge problems for a long while - I think I can do it now, though.
Thanks for your comments guys. Speed and height, obviously, may change things, so what you can do slowly while kneeling might not be safe when speeding up or jumping first.
as i understand it, he is rolling on his left side so he shouldn't be placing his right hand on the floor as he does because it can damage the wrist. if the hand on the non-rolling side does touch the ground, it should be the 'blade'of the tegatana and then it can be turned palm down to assist in pushing off the floor.
studiyng with the senior students (all 7th dans)of the late shihan ralph reynolds in birmingham, uk. when ypou start you do put both hands on the ground to form acircle with both arms but the 'blade' edge of the hands should touch the ground. you can see in the video how as he places his palm on the floor on the roll into the mat that his arm is going to exert considerable force on the wrist. if he doesn't get it exactly right or he is thrown seriously then ouch!
Why do you feel the need to exagerate your studying partners. "Senior students all 7th dan". Sure. Whatever. 7th Dan of what? There are NO 7th dan at all in Birmingham according to the official listings of high ranking dan holders on Aikiweb. If it's not official Yudansha dan grades, who cares?
What's an official Yudansha grade? You are very confident in your claims.
(It would be an exageration if it wasn't true. Was asked where I studied, which I interpreted as asking about more than the location. So I gave what I thought was a relevant answer. Their grades reflect on their own dedication. If you're from the UK then the late Shihan Reynolds' name should be known to you if you've practised for any length of time and he was happy with their grades.)
Really smooth! LOL the backward roll is as though they did a video playback on the forward roll. We need some tutorials soon lol!

Oh, thanks. You're perfectly right. I remember learning kneeling rolls with your palm on the ground, but standing rolls done just the way you say.
