I'm white working class. I grew up in a racist area, went to a mixed race school, most were white but about 30% were Pakistani. As a kid I was taught to be racist by family, peers etc. I saw through the ignorance though; because that's why people are so fearfull of the impact of multiculturalism, because it's in everyones nature to assume that their way is the right way and anything contrary is bad or evil. Tolerance is a good thing, as is change, people need to learn and move on.
