sli is strictly nvidia, you have to have a crossfirex mobo with a 790fx/gx/x chipset. you can run a single ati card on an nvidia chipset but no more. if you decide to get a new mobo 790 is by far the best right now and x= 2 gx = 3 and fx=4 cards supported. also youd be doing yourself a favor getting rid of the evga

It's not very easy to explain.

Let's say you run a game which can be processed by your CPU with 30FPS and by your video card with 90FPS.The result you will see will be 30FPS becouse the CPU is slower and is slowing down the video card thus you lose 2/3 of the card's potencial.This is called CPU bottleneck.You can google it to find a more understandable explination.
