Omg, my husband and I used to check these guys out all over hollywood mid/late 90s. I still have old paper stickers of theirs. I love them and thought I'd never see em. Hey thanks for posting. BTW, they were dumped into the industrial scene at that time when radiohead was merely a top 40 band. I hardly think they were even into radiohed. Think more like Jim Thurwell. We tried do shows with them but our schedules clashed.
Regardless of the name of the band: this band is awesome! I feel lucky to have got to see them so much before they broke up. The Postal Service wishes they were this good.
ive seen a lotta bands,no one matches the energy at babyland's shows, not prodigy, not nin.....with the exception of Atr,i havnt seen a band this punk in so long.
I love these guys. It's been so many years since finding them. But I have to wonder: How many of the kids who sing this song at shows even know who Frank Gehry is? Not that it matters. Maybe they actually introduced some kids to him.
I had a chance to meet dan and smith dan is the complete opposite when you meet him . babyland is his chance to see the full range of this man and it is amazing to see them in person cause they reproduce the impact of lyrics live as on the recordings and smith ...being a drummer myself do not get me started ...stunning is one word that sums up a live babyland show FUCKING AWSOME!!!!!!!!
and gotta love comming out of the pit w/ a mouthfull of metal from a skill saw that was being ground on a steel drum to the beat of the song =) thats fuckin punk rock ;)
Actually, I saw them right when this came out, and they were making fun of it themselves. I think the intro was "Contrary to popular belief, this is not a Flock Of Seagulls cover. It's our new single."
Great song, and honestly it got people dancing at a show where no one but me really knew them. Then they pulled out the grinders and tore the place apart.
This moment changed my life. I can't believe I had to stumble across this serendipitously and not without someone telling me that there is this song by this abdn, and it is amazing.
Babyland is a rare, rare, breed. It's hard to find bands with so much raw emotion, live and on recording. Over the past year.5 they've pretty much pissed on the shoes of every band I thought was good, and kicked them out the door. I own the discography, not one bad song - from cancerbeat, to sophmore, to ghery, to 45... Thanks Dan and Smith.
babyland ownz both you and your mother both live and on cd. and i feel that 'the finger' is their best album yet. keep up the great work, dan. you am great and im pretty sure you INVENTED radiohead.
Yay Babyland! Hoping to see you guys at Gilman this Saturday. :)
For the haters, you really have to see Babyland live before making any judgment whatsoever. They are WAYYYYYYYY more awesome live. Watching Dan bounce around the stage fuels the energy of the crowd. :)
Everything they do is better live...I never listen to their CDs, but the shows are amazing. I wish they were coming to the Nitzer show in Phoenix. :(
I saw them when this was just coming out...they introduced it as "...this is NOT a Flock Of Seagulls cover, this is our new single." Totally different than the rest of the show.
Ah yes, for the first 12-13 years of Babyland's career, they were thinking "damn, I wish that Ben kid would grow up, form a moderately popular pop band, then do a little side project, so we could have something to want to be."
Even as they were recording THIS song, they were thinking "Geez, that Postal Service album is still a year away, how are people going to know what we want to be?"
How can I take YOU seriously when you can't spell your own moniker correctly? That's not even an E it's the number 3!!! Crazy!!! And that's a 0 where the O belongs! I can't take it!
@N3vam0re too bad that The Postal Service doesn't have shit on them and they've been around for 19 years and all... huh strang i don't think the kids in postal service are even that old.
Ah, a kinder gentler Babyland. And yet, still Babyland signature.
They were better than most industrial bands when they were more aggressive, and now they're better than the majority of the "2 Artfags and a keyboard" bands that seem to populate every college town nowadays.

I don't like the high pitched voice. Reminds me of today's emo bands.

This song is pretty old guys...3 or 4 years old, when did that Postal Service that gets played to death come out?
Babyland is older than the lifespans of both Death Cab for Cutie and Postal Service. If you're going to criticize, at least make valid points.

Definately a tame song. It sounds far better live. I'm always \rooting for these guys and will be looking forward to seeing them open for Nitzer Ebb.
Even to this day, their live shows have never failed to entertain. You'll be washing off Lysol and small metal fragments from your head.
If you're angry, nerdy and into electronic music...I suggest looking into their other works.
