But if you read the databooks (also written by Kishimoto) then you'll see Tenten is actually one of the better kunoichi's in taijutsu. Hence why in the games you usually see her fighting in close quarters because she's a "master of all weapons".

If her and Temari got into a taijutsu battle, no jutsus, Temari'd be wrecked since she's strictly a ranged fighter.
