  • Thank you so much for posting this performance. I was directed here from Wikpedia, this particular performace, being offered, as, presumably, a good example of the work.

Would you ever be willing to post the entire piece, if you could? I would say, indeed, you have captured quite a wondrous moment in time of music making. The tension, the gaze, attention, of some of the young eyes, the guy who wanders, in, in the background, (all) are, to this, witness.

  • Still think the late great Iona Brown played this 10x better! Still love it though!

  • I couldn't help but smile while listening to this.

  • Nice, but a little too fast. Bean & Brown's versions are perfect.

  • i can't help but enjoy this song.

  • 1:43 a youth is so amazed.

  • I cried a little bit....

  • Rachmaninov once said 'music is love'

  • truely fantastic

  • Belli, bravi !!

  • ;-; isnt there more?

  • too great for this evil world.

  • Saved to my playlist: "AMBIENCE: aural". Sublime; a real tear-jerker; love that little bird!

  • Andacht, ihr Lieben, Andacht!!! Michael Bochman göttlich beseelt spielend auf youtube. Ende des Jahres wieder bei uns...Gott, freu ich mich drauf! :-))

  • This is way too fast. It sounds like the soloist is rushing and the other people are trying to keep up.

  • @jthameschoir yes I agree wholeheartedly there. In his own solo introduction he dallies along playing the tune far too slowly (compared to others I've heard) and when he has to lead the rest he plays along faster than the rest of them.

"SPOILT BRAT" is a term which pops into my head whenever I see this on YouTube...

  • @DrKincade Somebody called the tempo police?

  • @PizzatheHutt78 oh god yes - 2:57 he's leaving the orchestra in the dust

  • Remarkable performance.....those were simpler times. sigh

  • i wasnt expecting that!! its amazing i cant beleive it sounded so amazing live

  • Added Echo = Best Atmosphere ever.

  • No added echo effects - it's the acoustics of the room - namely a huge cathedral nearly 1000 years old...

  • @likal23 It's actually 469-years-old (and counting). Marvellous piece.

  • @likal23 wish people could hold their bodily noises

  • @likal23 Guess where i live?

  • @likal23 he didnt say that echo effects were added

  • It's More than great!!!

  • striking resemblence to Indian Raga "MOHANAM"

    beautifull composition

    reghunath

    India

  • fantastic piece

  • 5****

  • Just realised this is all done on one camera (I was mesmerised by the music, so wasn't paying attention to the visuals!). Lovely, lovely piece and great performance by all. I've recorded in this place so I know the sound is extremely tricky to get right.

  • This is beautiful. Something about this sounds so oriental, kind of like the soundtrack to a Miyazaki film or something.

  • It showed supreme disregard for the ways of today or yesterday. It dreamed itself along

  • @MisterTTG Ha! i said exactly the same thing. You heard Nigel Kennedy's version?

  • I am doing an informal analysis of text comments. Writers generally fall into the "I luv this song. It's so great!!!!!" category, be it classical, pop or otherwise. This observation sounds arrogant but that is not the spirit. I am curious on the motivation to anonymously write something that seems of no interest to others. If a person writes that the composer/vocalist was struggling with the death of his mother; that the composition is unusual in its chord arrangement, that's useful. You think?

  • The first category is an opinion: who are you to critique some people's appreciation because it is written simply? The last category is (aside from the trolls) the worst because it is almost always unadulturated BS.

The critic's narcissism in your example is awful. A mother's death may cast someone into a retrospective of past sorrows but have little to do with the mother or her passing. "Unusual chord arrangement"? Trite and disassociated.

I'm only here because of Larks Tongue in Aspic.

  • What are you trying to say. This song was written around 1920 and his mother died around 1935.

  • wiki has it started in 1914 and finished in 1920, its got some serious WWI influence

  • A lovely recording

The wind in this are from Gloucestershire Youth Orchestra with ESO strings. A fantastic experience for the students

  • There is a CD available; Michael playing this same peice. One of the greatest musicians of our time. Jane Paynex

  • beautiful........

  • I hope this helps heal my broken heart....

  • @Truthseekerfinder It takes time....but it will eventually heal.......i tried to find a coping mecchanism like music to heal it ....... or even try to replace what makes you feel you broken :) you will get over it eventually =]

  • Michael is the most passionate and emotional of performers. This is a sublime performance, and I just love him. Best wishes always, Janexx

  • Superb!
