  • Quite a few Husquvarna rifles where chambered in 9.3x62.

  • i want one in a mauser action perhaps a CZ or a Austrian Voere. i wish companies like winchester and browning and ruger more so started making guns in those timeless european cartridges 6.5X55,7X57,303,9.3X62, etc etc

  • @PioneerRifleman

Ruger makes rifles in the latter three cartridges you mention. They've also recently released a limited run of the No.1 in 6.5x55. I managed to get my hands on one....you should too ;)

  • @KingKoodles it can be tough in Canada on the American limited run guns i know the ruger NO1 in 303 brit sold very well in Canada and i expect in other commonwealth countries ie Australia,UK. my other option is to buy euro made guns but sometimes they are very expensive

  • @PioneerRifleman

There's a place in Lloydminster, AB, that carries a high stock of the No.1's in limited calibres. "Prophet River Firearms"; that's where I got mine. And they also do a lot of importing with CZ-USA if you fancy a nice European sporting rifle :) Check it out.

  • the 9.3-62 is a very nice cartridge too shoot if you can handle a 7mm rem mag the 9.3 is about the same, mayby even less felt recoil in a rifle like the cz 550. its not a long range cartridge but out too 600 feet, it will put a moose on the ground better then any of the 300 magnums any day of the week and thats a fact.

  • I shot an original 9.3x62 (probably 1950's) and the recoil was pretty heavy. I want one though!

  • Too close to the .338-06 A-Square and .35 whelen to suceed in the USA. We already have our medium thumpers.

  • The 9.3x62mm is my favorite all around cartridge...hands down.

  • @ammosmith AMEN, the 9.3 is long over do in the states.

  • @theatwo Not only is it the best game cartridge for North America it is also by far one of the best designed cartridges I have ever dealt with. Easy to make from 30-06 and is really efficient.

  • It's German!

    It can't be bad!

  • @mfilip62

    so true

  • @mfilip62

Humm, think Jagermeister, I think that's from the same region.....not my favorite beverage!

  • Jag skulle tro att du kan få tag i den amnutionen på vilken vapen affär som helst bara du har licens på vapnet vill säga ...

  • Interesting round, .375ish bullet but in a smaller case? Nifty.

  • I have a 9,3x62 to moose and brown bears in sweden and i now Sako have a bigger in 9,3x66 ..

  • Comment removed

  • Does the 9.3x64mm Brenneke fit into a standard Mauser action as well, or is the 9.3x62mm generally the biggest you can go?

  • Either of course, with the edge to the 9.3 if you can shoot it well.

  • 9.3 or 30-06 for moose ?

  • @Ialocin85 30-06 imo

  • @lilham10809

    Are you kidding!?

Comparing .30-06 with 9,3 is like comparing small car to the truck in terms of stopping power!

  • @mfilip62 yeah but thats like trying to deside weather to use a 243 or a 30-06 for coyotes. whats more humane?

  • @lilham10809

IMHO .30-06 lacks accuracy that .243 can offer,it is ower-kill and kicks too much for such a small game, but both will do the job great!

If you can choose .243 is like made for coyote, use some accurate HP rounds that suits your rifle best and you can't miss. Accurate shots are humane shots!

  • @mfilip62 that is a good point.

  • @lilham10809 243 is plenty for yotes. it'll shoot flatter than the 06, wont hit as hard, but for a yote it is more than enough. way more than enough :D

  • This is my all-time favorite calibre for Africa, especially since it delivers all the punch needed for everything up to Elephant without the drama of other, heavier calibrs. Low recoil, 5 in the mag and generally found on a lighter action, the 9.3x62 does everything well without being heavy to carry all day. I have a CZ in this calibre and use Hornady ammunition too - fabulous combination and deserves consideration instead of the 'old favorites' of .375H&H and .416 Rigby!

  • I can totaly agree with TheHuntingAgent about how well the 9.3x62 works .

When I'm guiding Alaskan brown bears or moose in Alaska my 9.3x62 is my favorite gun I use even when I have larger guns I could be using .

    I have a CZ 550, the loads I use are 286gr Barns X with 70grains of H-414 .

  • @TheHuntingAgency

9.3 is great round, but just too much for most game so I use it only for special situations. I don't have experience with big African game, but my all-time favourite is 8x57 Mauser. It has everything and more that .30-06 tried to be.

I NEVER saw anything, not even moose or bear ascape this round and I believe that military FMJ would take down elephant with ease. IMHO .30 magnums are useless for anything than long rane sniping and .375H&H /.416 Rigby is too much for anything.

  • @mfilip62 We all have our favorites and for me, when advising our clients on the 'best' round to take hunting I always ask which they shoot best and which they prefer - and it's that calibre I then recommend, each to their own. I've both .375 and .416 and still rate my 9.3x62 above them both in terms of being a decent all-round calibre to hunt most things with, after all, not everyone has the funds for Phant and Rhino! That said, my 30-06 has been a constant companion this year too....

  • I've taken Kalahari Springbok in the Kalahari, Gemsbok in Etosha, Hartmann Mountain Zebra in the Hartmann Mountains of Kaokoland and a monster 18 inch + Springbok in Damaraland with mine, not to mention Deer and Wild Boar in the UK, Moose and Caribou in Newfoundland with it and lots more besides. I've a .243 too and have used it on lots of the smaller stuff, but my 30-06, like the 9.3 (which is just a necked-up 30-06 anyway) does all I want from a rifle when hunting in lion country!

  • @TheHuntingAgency

What do you use for Cape Buffalo?

  • @Gmissile It greatly depends on what I have to hand. I've used 416 Rigby .375 H&H and .458 - all work well enough but its more a case of what works best in your hands? For example, I've had a few 416's now and am on my 4th, a Heym. I decided as recently as yesterday that I prefer my CZ550 and the Heym Express is therefore going to be sold. I hope that helps?

  • @TheHuntingAgency

    It does. Thank you.

On the subject of .416s;do you know of anyone anywhere that's building a double rifle or a bolt action magazine fed hunting rifle in .416 Barrett or .408 Cheytac?

One of these days, before I get too creaky, I intend to get Up Close and Personal with a Cape Buffalo. I believe that the machined brass Barrett slug, all other things being equal---like shot placement, would deliver a quick, humane, drop 'em in their tracks, one shot kill.

3 to 6 shot kills offend.

  • @Gmissile Hi again, sorry but no, neitehr cartridge is familiar to me and if I'm honest (which I am) I don't see any sense in re-inventing the wheel - let me explain. Calibres such as 416 Rigby and 375H&H have been around and proved themselves over time so you can get ammo pretty much anywhere in Africa for both. Since your rifles and ammo travel separately on the 'plane, it's not unusual for one or the other to get separated at which time I think you'll struggle to find any ammo for your gun

  • @Gmissile I've got .458 Win Mag, 416 Rigby, 375 H&H, 9.3x62, .308, 30-06, .243, .470 and so on and I can get ammo for each of them pretty much anywhere. I've also had my rifles turn up but ammo sent to Cape Town (when I've been elsewhere) and I can tell you it's pretty frustrating. It's your call obviously, but we council our clients not to build in potential problems to their trips and this is one of those times. Sorry, I've never heard of or shot either cartridge and ammo would concern me,

  • @TheHuntingAgency

Point taken. Thanks for your response.

  • @Gmissile Calibers like the baret or cheytac are overkill for game animals, and the guns they are chambered in are to bulky to take on a african hunt. Cape buffalo and elephant have been taken in the past with 8mm mausers during WW2, Roy Weatherby killed one with one shot from his .257 weatherby. Giant large caliber heavy sniper rifles besides being overkill bullet wise, will most likely only serve to get you killed by a chargin bull. Its hard to off hand a quick shot with a 30-50lb. gun.
