Do you know how Gershwin's rolls were recorded? There is very little history to be found, but he obviously either overdubbed himself on the same piano roll or got someone else to play a few of the orchestra parts; he doesn't treat it like a 4 hand piece in this roll, so I am going to assume it was the former.
