Check out my video for a demo of all the sounds available on the roland hd-1 and if you like my playing let me know if you want me to do a cover :) im open to suggestions. let me know what you think guys :)
thanks for the review. I'm a complete newb at drumming but would like to get an electronic drum kit. would you recommend this one ? Any others I should be looking at?
Some of these postings are so mean. The farther and son did a GREAT job of demoing this set. I would much rather hang out and be neighbors with them, rather than those of you who find it necessary to poke fun or say asinine things about them.
the point i was trying to make, but apparently not so eloquently with the camera rolling, was that the snare wasn't the same sample at different volumes, but different samples of snare hits relative to the velocity that the player used striking the pad.
i'm not sure if i know what you mean, but if you're talking about a separate trigger on the rim of the snare drum for sidestick, crosstick, etc. no it does not. roland saved that for it's more expensive kits.
the only triggering surfaces are the ones shown in the review.
however, what you would trigger with a rim trigger -- side stick, cowbell, red block and more, are included somewhere in the various kits. usually on the second tom.
the pads don't have different "zones" or hitting surface areas, but are sensitive to the velocity that they are hit. it is my believe that they are all capable of triggering different sounds at different velocity hitting levels, but as demonstrated in the percussion segment, they have limited the pads to trigger three different sounds, so each can be played with a small dynamic range.
the snare, kick and hi-hat all seem to be programmed to trigger the same sounds on each patch, but the velocity at which you play is set to trigger a sample played on that drum with a velocity that matches yours for a more natural sound.
each pad has a 1/4" output jack, which i assume can be used with different brains, but i have not used the pads to do so. there is a midi out, so the triggering surfaces could easily be used to trigger another unit that way.
so, in short, i believe all the pads have the velocity sensitivity capability, but they use that feature differently on the snare, kit and hi-hat. and whether the other pads (both cymbals and toms) trigger one, two, or three sounds depends on which patch is being used.
first of all, thanks for posting this, but somehow i have seen this before, on another acount (tacosandbeerandbeer). i don't know who was first tough :-)
oh, and funny seeing you here, konariderlaura :-) this movie made me deside to do my own review :-D
and the hd-1, or any other midi equipped instrument is compatible with addictive drums if that also suports midi (and i gues i'm not wrong, as you used the guitar hero world tour drumkit to trigger the software trough a midi to usb cable.
this is an awesome review! Ive been trying to find out about this kit for a few weeks now, Im deciding between this and the yamaha DTXplorer, this looks much better.
you can trigger addictive drums with these right? The only reason i liked the yamaha better was because you got more sounds, but if you hook HD-1 upto addictive drums you get more. These seem much better quality also, and the HD-1 teaching software is amazing, think ive made my mind up now :)

Which pads are dual zone? And does each pad have a wire thats removable? (to change drum brains)

this is the best answer i can give...

it may be cheaper but id go for the HD-1 for that snare alone lol, let me know what you decide on, good luck in your choice.
