On the tightest focus setting, I can get 2.5-3 cm away from a minifigure with it still being in focus. You may be able to get better if you play around with lighting.
I mounted my webcam on an 8x8 plate which I sat on rails made from flat plates. Then it was simply a case of using a ruler to move it a tiny increment each frame. I used 1mm/frame for this, although i have a hunch that a fraction of an inch would work better.
by taking a picture, moving the characters a tiny bit, taking another picture, then repeating the process so that when you play back the images in sequence, it appears to be moving.
Nice, could you make a Tutorial of this?

How did you make the paper? Did you have to actually draw it/make it on the computer, or did it come in a LEGO set?
