It's hard to come up with any words really. Farewell to an iconic engine. What a way to bow out! A huge period of my life has come to an end, and I'm only sorry I couldn't see it. Thanks for immortalising the moment mate. I get comfort in the fact though that this iconic train is still will us, now powered by the very capable MTU engine. Long live the HST!

Well done on this excellent piece of filming, as I only managed to get some photos in those freezing conditions at York. Nice use of the horn by the enthuastic driver from Grand Central, shame there was no appropiate announcement over the tannoy at York, for this last service. The sound of the Valentas will be missed...
How long will it be before we hear this sound on the main line again? Some may say a long long time? Hopefully the interest both in elbow grease and money remains in years to come to get a Valenta back where it belongs.
The most iconic sounding (and looking) UK train since steam in public eyes......
@SANSPAREIL1977 It could be 10 years, depending on how long it takes to get the replacement (whatever it is) in service! I suspect that Grand Central's may be amongst the last ones to be retired, along with First Great Western.
The first power cars withdrawn would either depend on age of the replacement engines, or electrification status of the route. In terms of age of engine, East Midlands Trains power cars must dominate because the VP185 was first used before the 1990s I believe.
Nice one. I couldnt get there today, was working. I did kx - york and back sunday instead, with the added bonus of the cambridge divert! Nice to see the driver gave it some, although sadly no notch 5! Can't beat your GNER 'mother' start of 2007 !!
I have now linked the Paxman Valenta Wikipedia article to this video.

@spark001uk Is notch 5 isolated on 123? I heard many GC PC's had notch 5 out for some time?
SANSPAREIL1977 1 year ago
@SANSPAREIL1977 It has yes, they taped out N5 about a year ago i believe, to help the engines last.

Nice video Wayne. Recorded for all eternity and for future generation to realise what they missed 'live'!
A sad day for the 125s. Things will never be (or at least sound) the same again.
Did you travel on any of the GC shuttles at all today?
