@Lyncheh --The young lady in the video is now in college, has been attending part time for threee years, has a 3.8 gpa, and is applying to four year colleges. Homeschool does not negate schooling in a classroom. And who said this was a race to win? You win if you are happy and productive, in whatever way those words have meaning for you. You can be happy and productive and go to school, or be happy and productive and learn at home. It's all good.

This. Is. Exelent. I'm definetly adding this to my favs. I told someone that I'm homeschooled on DA, and they were like "Great homeschooling job mom n dad! Moron!". Stupid people. It makes SO angry!
So yeah, about the "this could never be my classrom", I completely agree about it! The only thing is, do we NEED a classroom? We don't! But yeah, completely agree. The school is not a "classroom". It's basically a torture chamber.
My daughter (13) is unschooling and now that the weather is sunny we are out in the woods, rock climbing, running, biking, etc. We take long drives to hiking spots and listen to the news, to music or to science shows and audio books. She does her projects on the porch and has a house full of friends nearly every weekend. She volunteers, etc. I wish I'd come up this way.
Completely jealous. You guys spend more time in the real world, engaging in learning by doing activities, then I was growing up being stuck at home most of the days by strict parents. The only outlets I had were between school & church. Not much else.
And how was it happy? Oh, I know, you mean the current slang term that means "terrible" or "horrible" but having little to no vocabulary skills, you have to resort to a a slang term which is usually considered a homophobic slur. Seven words--and yet you tell me so much about your uneducated self.
Oh, as so many know who have attended college--there is no need to declare a major until you are a junior (and many people change their major multiple times). Until then, you take classes you want to take, and the basics. It's not like she's 84, she has a few years to figure out what she wishes to study.
I agree that home schooling is the way to go these days. Most people have not a clue what really goes on tin the world while being in public school. In fact, public school becomes more of a warped social learning atmosphere everyday. Why should our bright minds be tainted by false realities and substandard teachings? Thank God we have freedom of choice and expression in this country!
About college...Alexx attends college NOW, at 13. Alexx just finished her first semester in college, with a 4.0 gpa. By the time you are graduating from High School--she'll be a college graduate!
She interacts well with everyone, including teachers, and has excellent social skills.
She's a teen docent at a local historical site, is involved in soccer (playing & as a referee, refereeing games of players her own age!) acting, dance and voice lessons, and more.
Actually, many homeschoolers attend college, usually starting at about 13-14. Schooled children do the same--it's called concurrent enrollment. Most students who do this begin in the 11th grade. However, homeschooled students usually start earlier. Alexx currently is in the middle of her 3rd semester, with a 4.0 gpa. Concurrent enrollment students are welcome in almost any community college and many 4 year colleges.
Yep! I know several homeschooled people who are getting college out of the way while they are still new High school students. Plus they are even getting better grades then the other students in their classes.
I'm just a bit concerned about your lack of punctuation and the sentence structure in your post. Even in an informal forum such as this, you should write I'd, with a capital "I" and an apostrophe, to indicate it is a contraction of the words "I" and "would." I teach (I'm Alexx's mom) in a public school, and I would suggest to my students that in a post about how bad homeschooling is, and how great public school is, that the writer make sure to make no mistakes.
well that great for you. but, homeschoolers are just like public schoolers, only without the restraint of a desk and having to spend 7 hours in a building a day. I am homeschooled and i have a social life, i go to the movies, go to the mall, and hang out with friends (yes, i do have them, some my own age, some a few years older than me in fact). I also have a bf so just because your homeschooled, doesn't automatically make u anti social and friendless! Maybe u should meet some REAL homeschoolers
Homeschoolers have friends, that's an unescapable fact. And does she need the TV? TV is for morons who don't have anything better to do. Social skills? Give me a break! Etc. etc.
Homeschooling is great! It helps mold great character & perfect for one on one teaching...and with the right books, I have found that there is hardly ever a need for teaching, because the books are SOOOOOO well written..unlike the terrible public school books. LIFE IS WAYYYyyyy better now.
You did a GREAT job. You used a good simple phrase and turned it into a funny creative video. I like how you showed so many different places and things that you do. My favorite parts were the library and school classroom :)
Just watched the other... I don't see the similarity, at all. "the world is my classroom" is a very common phrase, it doesn't surprise me it turned up in at least 2 homeschool videos, if not more. Other than that, the 2 videos are extremely different, even if one wasn't animated, the story/editing/etc is still so different.
im homeschooled in australia and i thought this video was brill congratulations on college and thanks for the confidence boost !!!

...does she have friends?
Does she go downtown, to the movies, watch tv, go to the mall, does she know any boys?
Think about when she goes to college...
social skills? fads? how to interact with teachers, fellow students?
I love public school, if i was homeschooled, id die
KrissyBoo236 3 years ago
I'm glad you like public school, that is important.
Do YOU know any homeschooled students? You are making a lot of assumptions which make me think you have a very limited world knowledge!
Does Alexx have friends? Yes, many, of all ages, including those who are her own age.
Does she go downtown, to the movies, watch tv, go the mall--of course, to all of those things.
Does she know any boys. Of course, she has friends of both sexes, has been to dances, outings, concerts, etc.
