How do people compare bands today to classic bands?Omar is an artist,he is human an shows his flaws in his recordings.I play bass much like him,I just jam and improvise.I think of music like life, there is no intelligent design, just an evolving mutating organism. It has ups and downs, highs and lows, and when its over the universe will have never noticed...only those lucky enough to witness it.Omar does what he wants and doesn't give a fuck about what people want to hear.Noctourniquet will rock!!!
Better than Zappa? Lol, Omar's not even close. Frank Zappa was a prodigious composer and arranger. ORL is gifted, but tremendously overrated as an arranger, composer and musician.
To everyone that's been dismissive towards Omar's style. You've the preceeding generation of assholes that glazed over Picasso's work that proclaimed "that's stupid, it doesn't look like a person". I want you to understand, but it's probably not worth the effort.
wow, i've never seen omar this open, lively, and just plain happy in an interview. has anyone noticed he and cedric are looking younger these days rather than older? whatever the fuck they are doing, i hope they keep it up.
yea that arion delay pedal he's talking about is fucking awesome. the one i had a couple of years ago broke quickly, but it was completely different from any other delay. goodshit.
I have to disagree with you there, Omar. You are most CERTAINLY a musician and of the very best kind. I believe it's fact. Music is a form of art, and everything they teach people in music theory is how to emulate what music from the soul sounds like. You have accomplished something great, which is playing as closely as possible to what is in your soul. It's honest and it is the most profound and enjoyable sound on earth. the sound of life. God bless you :)
I bought the memory boy, and I know why he has 3 delays. The memory boy is a dirty and reverb-y delay pedal, and isnt really clean ever. I already know I want a simply clean delay to compliment my memory boy.
That Ibanez wh10 is a GODLY wah. John Frusciante uses it as well. So an awsome freakin pedal. I will never part with mine, even for a couple hundred dollars.
It's a nebulous sense, which's why I didn't try to define it in my original post.
I suppose he seems more relaxed, less formal, less self-important, and even a little lacking in self confidence. In old interviews he seemed to talk very little but when he did he'd tend to critique the music industry or otherwise say something elitist.
@DennisDeeYourSavior I know, it just depresses me a great deal. I just felt like Octahedron was a step back rather than a step forward(albeit forward in different directions) like every album prior to it..
@phoenixeye88 it shouldnt depress you. it should excite you that they're going in a different direction. i like that they're exploring simplicity just as much as they did complexity. simple isnt bad, look what jack white did with it.
@RelaxNplay64 he said once in an interview that he really dislikes the guitar, something about wanting to make guitar sound like anything but a guitar.
personally i own or have heard everything this man has been involved with
my only wish is that he did a rig interview in the heat of it all
what i mean is maybe 2007 when he used and still owned all his umm 700 or 800 pedals his peal board when i saw them live twice was the size of my fucking car he hates when fans get gear nerdy but who can blame listners ya know
@drakepcj i feel your pain lol why couldnt someone corner omar 4 years ago and make him talk nerdy gear talk lol starting to miss the old omar/marsvolta but this video is still cool i like how he mentions boss VB2 obviously can hear that alot in volta and omar stuff and juans vid preety cool stuff
This video is proof that magical sounds and great music come from the player and his playing, and not from some amp or the pedalboard. as always, amazing
i've come to a conclusion some time ago that the music a musician writes projects their personality. most of the time you can hear how nervous and fast omar speaks, trying to get his point across when he has so much in his head that he wants to express. it reflects in most of his music - manic, angular and very long at times! not saying it shows in all his music of course, but it u get what i mean.
the guy is a magician! love his work. I have the same amp, there are a lot of players I know who are like 'I must have a wall of heads and cabs to be an amazing guitarist', I'm like...no a mid-sized combo will do you, any more and it's just to look cool. everyone could take a leaf out of omar's book.
@badyearXY No you can't, considering the Lil Screamin Demon looks just like the both of them. But some google searching says he uses the JB Jr. That's what I meant by everyone else. =P
i like how the video isnt even getting the audio from the mic he is using...
