  • A theremin, Marty Beller, a beautiful voice singing Still Alive, and directed by the Flans. How does it get any better than this?

  • @Zoidberg227 "a beautiful voice" YOU MEAN "Sara Quin"!!?1?

  • Life: Complete

  • SHE deserves a grammy.

  • What a wonderful voice she has.

  • Brilliant!

  • fucking theremin yo

  • 3:07 change lyric sheet

  • Comment removed

  • Sara Quin is so hot.

    hhhnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnggggggggggggggggggggggg

  • That is one gorgeous Les Paul... I always thought JoCo was a Fender guy. I'd love to see it in full color. Anybody know any concerts where he played the Les Paul instead of the Tele?

  • @TheLastJukeboxRomeo Saw him last weekend at Royce Hall, UCLA and it was all Tele...

  • @gliblyaware Dammit, I was gonna go to that but I was sick. How was it?

  • @Muffinmixable Awesome! JoCo's set was too short, but TMBG was great too. Apes vs. People!!! No doubt Sara is hot and it makes it even worse she digs chicks! The only thing wrong with hot lesbians is that they find me sexually repulsive. DAMN! ;-)

  • Marty looks like he's having sex when he drums. 3:52 - He's doing it right I guess...

  • Very nicely constructed video.I like how it makes you focus on each element of the song--each instrument and musician--one at a time and then ties them all together so you get to appreciate the song/arrangement in a new way.Tres cool.

  • Sara Quin is cool and all, but I think you have all overlooked the King of the Drums, Marty Beller.

  • 2x speed FTW

  • Her voice is so beautiful *__*

  • Is that really Whitney Houston on the drums?

  • Ok, I can't be the only one who thinks the way she plays the theremin is, well, sexy dammit. :)

  • and the science gets done and you make a neat gun for the people who are still alive.

  • Jonathan: MORE THEREMIN! :-) Hi Dorit!

  • im so in love with this song and version

  • 23 people are no longer still alive.

  • IT'S SO CUTE TO SEE SARA SAY "APERTURE SCIENCE".

IT'S LIKE ALL MY FANDOMS ARE COLLIDING.

    EEEEE.

    <3

  • I personally prefer GLaDOS singing, I heard it in-game and it just doesn't sound right without that awesome computer voice.

  • @CheesyTiger141 I was thinking to myself that the only way this might have a chance at being more awsome would be if Ellen McClain was singing lead. This lady did a great job, though. :)

  • Am I the only one who thinks that Jonathan Coulton looks like Ratman?

  • whoa was that mr. bean playing drums!?!?! haha. gotcha!

  • She can see you through the eyehole of her Marty Beller mask, but that's really Whitney Houtson on the drums.

  • Thats one brutal song. xD

  • Sara Quin singing Still Alive.

    I can die happy.

  • I like how this is both cold dark and cute and humourous at the same time

  • @imacrazypyromaniac He quite literally doesn't

  • She's a good singer, but she sounds too "nice, sweet, girl next door" for the song. It needs cold, mechanical and heartless.

  • @mooseven Well, GLaDOS was (is?) a computer with a friendly voice promising you cake all the time while trying to kill you hahah, for that her voice fits perfectly I think. Portal lives off that contrast.

  • What model theremin is this? I kinda want one now.

  • I love Sara's voice

  • ...That.... Was epic.

  • I wish I could Like and Favorite this video a million times. Just awesome!

  • Skip the high pitched sound 1:05

  • Apart from being a great song (and I can't deny my love for Sara any more than the rest of these commenters), this is my absolute favorite type of video: it shows the joy and beauty of the performance of music itself. And I think it works especially well in a situation like this where there's so much interesting contrast between the performers.

  • Man, her voice is too pure represent GLaDOS. She sounds so nice, but her voice doesn't have the necessary *evil-ness*.

  • that's so awesome X3

  • This version brought me back to the magic of the first game. A+ JoCo!

  • MARTY, YOUR FACE.

    that is all.

  • that's one heck of a nice beard.

  • Sara. You are so adorable. Hug me.

  • The Ukele is a cool/random/rad adition, but, sorry, Ellen McLain > EVERYTHING

  • Fan of Sara Quin here- I have nooo idea what these lyrics mean. I'm so confused.

  • @ophy4 You'd have to play the game Portal to fully understand it. To get the gist of it, just imagine Sara is a sarcastic, Machiavellian artificial intelligence who subjected you to a whole lot of tests/experiments while taunting you with the promise of cake, and you eventually killed her, or at least you think you did, but you never can tell with identical twins. ;)

  • @Cernoise I'm more confused than ever. It's weird Sara did this. She doesn't even like video games. I don't understand it, but I really love it anyways. It's sorta sad and funny at the same time.

  • @ophy4 I guess they just chose Sara because she has a great voice. :) 'sorta sad and funny at the same time' is a good description of a lot of Jonathan Coulton's songs, incidentally.

  • i swear i heard this song on 107.7 the end...

  • omg is it even possible for another human to be half as cute as sara quin, i can't even

  • @himynamesbrianna Have you seen Tegan Quin? :D

  • @Cernoise but of course! you are correct, she is equally as adorable. but for some reason, i'm just sliiiiightly more attracted to Sara.

  • The theremin girl's gestures are so captivating

  • For some reason, I always find watching Marty drum to be highly entertaining.

  • Tooo fucking cute

  • Love this!

  • I sang along :D

  • I want to play with that Theremin

  • I wish Sara Quin had smiled a bit more.

  • "ex-SPEAR-iment"... sometimes you just can't hide the Canadian-ity. ;)

  • Sara Quin. All of my love.

  • avoid exposure laser radiation is emmited from the APERTURE ,... who got that off there laser , also "dont look in the operational part of the device" OMG

  • @supersquad100 yeah I noticed that her name was stated in the top comment box. forgot and saw his post. Sara Quin

  • Further proof I want a Theramin. That's one weird and cool instrument.

  • it starts on 1:07

  • @bmx391xmb Sara Quin! She has a band: Tegan and Sara. AMAZING <3 Check em out!

  • @theslyder Jonathan Coulton made the song, and GLaDOS is a portal character. I think you saw this in the Rock Band Store and didn't realize anything. So, I'm not going to call you a dumbass because you accidentally got the wrong idea.

  • @supersquad100

Don't worry, I won't call you a dumbass because you didn't know I was being facetious. Misunderstandings happen.

  • @bmx391xmb Sara something... (I'm sorry, I just know her first name, but it's a start, so google search away.)

  • lol I love this drummer :D

  • Best version ever!

    Congratulations, JoCo and band! =)

  • awesome!

  • Glados

  • Where is Gladis? :'(

  • @Ragkantos GLaDOS*

  • @francishatesbill Sorry :3

  • @TomLikesGuitar The theremin playing at the beginning is good. It's got a haunting feel to it.

  • At the beginning: Wow shes not that good at theremin.

2:44 - 3:00: Wow shes really good at theremin.

  • It's worrying to see the amount of people who don't realise that Jonathan Coulton wrote the original version as well. This is simply a newer recording that has been reworked slightly. It's just as 'official' as the version featured in Portal a few years ago.

  • So I guess after GLaDOS heard this girl she kidnapped her, brainwashed and told her that her name was Chell and her parents had abandoned her. That's what you get for messing with her songs.

  • :D epic

  • Hearing Sara Quin's vocals on this song sent chills down my spine the entire time I was listening to it. It was awesome!

  • Do more gaming music!

  • That is the best theremin playing I have ever heard! That is some steady hands! Nice voice, and great song. One of my favorites.

  • I want to hug everyone in this video.

  • @SnappiestExpertNiko This is the original.

  • @555usdollars ". . .The song originally appeared in the credits for Valve's "Portal". . ." Says here, in the description

  • Oh my Gosh!!

  • Merci M.Coulton :)

  • why is the theremin even there? it's not even in the song!

  • @BorderlineBaguette You should probably listen harder. It's hard to miss.

  • Damn, this is nice.

  • The answer to your question is 1:10.

  • i wish the song ended when the theremin was done. or i wish the whole song was only about the theremin.

  • That contactless instrument thing was pretty cool, but I don't know we needed a full minute of it at the start.

It's really cool to have a more singy version of this song, this video especially cool as someone whose a big fan of Tegan and Sara.

  • Marty Beller makes the weirdest faces while he drums...

  • it is beyond awesome to see how joco's growing and changing but still keeping that thing that makes him so individual and cool! yay!!!

  • @theslyder Not sure if trolling or just stupid.

  • @Thiefree I'm going to have to start using the term 'ladyboner'.

  • @theslyder What? GLaDOS is a fictional character who sings the song in the game Portal. Jonathan Coulton originally wrote the song for Valve Software's game. Now he has released a cover of it on his album Artificial Heart, performed by him, his band and singer Sara Quin.

  • @mgiuca I say it should be on a Christmas album. It has that sort of sound. But the Theremin was a great touch.

  • Theremin Solo.

  • You know, if you don't have the song on high volume, at the very beginning she says she's baking a note.

  • *sigh* Stupid comments are stupid.

  • 3:33 behind the monitor on the right

    ThinkGeek guy?!

  • The wadsworth constant applies.

  • I don't understand these comments... This is the guy who made the song for the game, not some random band. Idiots.

  • @ClassicRock4Ever97 The author of the song is a hipster who ruins the song now? Don't know if laugh, or cry for that stupid comment.

  • @ClassicRock4Ever97 Damn hipsters ruin everything? Lol He made thi song, which was modified for the game, i just dont know what to respond xD

  • It's in a lower key!

  • @ClassicRock4Ever97 you, son, are stupid. lol creator of the song can do what he wants with it. Stop being a dick :P

  • awesome.....although Deinterlace before uploading eh

  • There needs to be a Theremin iPhone App.

  • @ClassicRock4Ever97 this is the offical new recording done by Jonathan coulton but the singer is different

  • JoCo + Sara Quin = :D

  • 3:16, Oh sweet baby jesus, she's the most perfect woman i've ever seen

  • Not enough sarcasm.

  • I love it!

  • ha, check out pat dillett and his sweet moustache 3:34

  • Hey, that girl looks a lot like Tegan Quin! ;)

  • @Cernoise Indeed -- She is Tegan's identical twin sister Sara Quin!

  • @mgiuca I know… hence the wink. :D

  • What is the name of that first instrument?

  • @bowiebookgirl theremin

  • @bowiebookgirl it's called a "theramin" (or at least I'm pretty sure that's how you spell it)

  • @bowiebookgirl The one the girl is holding her hands over. That's a theremin. They used those alot in old black and white sci-fi B-movies because they made really spooky space sounds.

  • @bowiebookgirl Theremin, the two poles control pitch and volume. You move your hands to play notes.

  • @bowiebookgirl Theremin

  • Theremin!

(Hoops like a muppet thrown in the air)

  • chris andy

  • I love it when some of my favorite musicians collaborate.

  • @Prodigiousguy8 I'm a little creeped out when even the favourite musicians that I didn't find out about somehow through each other end up collaborating.

  • Let it die already ffs.

  • This is amazing.

  • I like the singer :D. Hawt

  • Is she playing the goddamned theremin? LIKE. A. BOSS.

  • @MusicByMartin lol?

  • It's good to know he made an alternate (proper?) version.

  • Even though everyone seems to think that this isn't ggod i'm just going to say, THIS IS AWESOME! at least I think so :D

  • This persons voice sucks for the song. No Offence, but it sounds like she has no idea how GLaDOS felt during the game. But I want an Instrumental of this!

  • GAHHHH SARA QUIN AND STILL ALIVE?!?!?!?!?!?! MY FAVORITE MUSIC GROUP, AND PORTAL IN ON"E?!?!!?!? I THINK I JUST DIED! Thank you for this!!!<3

  • Who is that theremin player? She's stupendous!

  • Hells yeah theremin player!

  • Man, I need to get a theramin! Great playing!

  • Though I would've preferred JoCo singing on the album, this was still quite enjoyable. Also, thanks as usual to Marty Bellar for just looking like he's having a ball on those drums...

  • The visuals are nice, the addition of the Theremin is interesting, but the vocals just seem lacking. It's a nice voice, but it just seems she just seems to be singing the lines. Sorry

  • I like Andy.

  • Was I the only one overjoyed to see Marty and his miraculous drum face in this? :-D

  • woah weird i got off my ass and learned this yesterday and poof he posts it

  • Creepy doll next plzkthx.

  • I always like to think that JoCo is being meta with the "I feel fantastic" line.

  • Oh my god guys, I am exploding with joy right now.

  • She is adorable.

  • Holy testiclehats that is one talented theremin player.

  • Artificial Heart is so good.

  • That was amazing!

  • what's the weird instrument called at the start of the video? it makes a spacey noise and it has the word "moog" on it?

  • @SuproElectric It's called Theremin

  • @kurre23 thanks! i think i might have to get one of these

  • @SuproElectric Its a theremin, the wire on the left controls the volume, the closer your hand is to that wire the lower the noise, the father your hand is the louder the noise. The antenne on the right controls the pitch the closer your hand it the higher the pitch is, and the farther your hand is the lower the note is.

  • beautiful Jonathon... absolutely beautiful....

  • Wonderfully done, but I am so glad I have JoCo's version because she just doesn't seem into it..

  • @FuturesCEO I agree. Though her voice is good it doesn't have the tune or wisdom/arrogance that GLaDOS' voice has.

  • @FuturesCEO Maybe she's trying to emulate that "GLADoS" feel? While I do enjoy JoCo's vocals, I first heard this song after finishing Portal, so to me, his vocals were "off". Just my thoughts

  • @FuturesCEO She is into it- thats just her nature sometimes. Besides you have to take into consideration that she was probably extremely tired after releasing Get Along, signing like 12,000 posters, making trailers,etc.. Either way she sounds amazing

  • Who is this women?

  • @Olpster It's Sara Quin from Tegan and Sara
