I hope The Lord allows Tony Hicks to play that riff in Heaven. The angels will blush. Man, I wish these guys would get back together, cut an album, and take it on the road (to the States too). Nothing today can touch this pure sound. Barbra, this song is for us. My Darling and Eternal Love, Barbra -- you are still alive (in Heaven). Watch over me and wait for me until it's my time to be with you forever.
Hicks -- clean riffs; power with economy. He was a great artist who wasn't a show-off. Clarke -- pure soul. Pure Pop For Now People, as they say. This song goes out for you, My Darling and Eternal Soulmate, Barbra. I wasn't truly alive until I met you. Wait for me in Heaven, My Matchless Gem. I will love you Forever!
I saw the Hollies at my high school in the spring of '68, front row seats right in front of Graham Nash. They had had a number of hits by that time and played them flawlessly, just like they had recorded them. When Hicks was introduced they said he was 17 or 18. Nash used an unmiked accoustic and broke a string and played on like nothing had happened. Great concert.
So in charge... synergy... beautiful harmonics...Tony just wicked on the twelve string (give Tony a sitar!). Thank You... I remember my teens... and The British Invasion... and The Hollies.

Here in the States, we were deprived of this one. This is now my favorite Hollies song. It never hit the airwaves here, (at least not here in the L.A. area). And I'm really upset.
@BriDunc I guess it was a bit disrespectful of me to call them obscure. I guess I called them obscure in comparison to the world wide fame and adoration that the beatles and the rolling stones, and the kinks have received. I have been listening to them and its a bit befouling to me that they never became as huge as those groups even though they made such great music.
@CavenEdwards They tied with the Beatles in terms of commercial success, but did not do enougn to give themselves more publicity. It was due to lack of an image, and the guys not doing enough interviews or being seen out and about London. They saw music as a regular job from which they clocked out at the end of the day and went home. They were also given a bum steer in being able to tour in the U.S. with visa rules.
Tony Hicks was a good lead guitarist. I wonder if Johnny Marr ever listened to him. They look a bit alike and have the same measured approach ti the guitar...
@meteor901 Agree...Great range...the low intro and then he hits those high chorus notes accurate and strong. That's what you call singing...no auto-tune in those days!
Graham Nash is the finest bandleader in rock to this day, actually. He really broods over his colleagues like a father bird, and here he looks out for Tony Hicks, the baby of the Hollies, the way he does now for Stephen Stills (who is now partially deaf)
Shit these guys were away ahead of their time,I am 40 and have loved and listened to these guys for 40 years and only today discovered they are from the 60's and not 70's <WOW.

this music is really good. i don't listen much to music from british invasion bands but believe that there were many good bands other than the overhyped beatles. and this is it.
I saw the Hollies in Bedford, in 1967, they were incredible live and would show many bands of today the way to go. Bobby Elliot is a fine , but underated drummer (to none musicians) his playing is rock solid, the vocal harmonies are superb.
Went 10 miles (by bicycle) to the next record shop only to buy this record in 1966 (was her first Nr.1 in the UK charts). So great.....

What an awesome tune-pay attention to how the drummer follows the Guitar at 1:20, and this guitarist is one of the best!
Then, at the end at 1:50, the drummer, again proves his abilities to follow the music like a computer! 1965! Too, much--

There were many other bands out there than the Beatles. They were overhyped, but were talented and earned the genuine the praise they got..

Sure sounds like "I can taste all the sugar sweetness in your ears." Yuck!

@retrorex It doesn't sound like that. "Kiss" and "ears" don't sound alike.

I saw the Hollies in Bedford, in 1967, they were incredible live and would show many bands of today the way to go. Bobby Elliot is a fine , but underated drummer (to none musicians) his playing is rock solid, the vocal harmonies are superb.
