  • Interesting setup. Usually my strike temp is about 172 for a mash of 158. You are adding boiling water so you must be counting on alot of temp loss from the shower action plus the cold grain. Also I noticed you didnt preheat the mash tun either. How long did it take to dial that in?! :)

  • where did u get ur keg

  • i've made beer for breakfast!

  • ever made beer out of breakfast cereal?

  • @azuritet3 You cant used breakfast cereals they have all been treated and stuff

  • wouldn't the hot water melt the plastic of the cooler? Plastic is a dangerous chemical for the body without it being melted. I'm surprised an eco guy wouldn't know this though. Since I can't post links google it. Heat causes chemical leech.

  • Boiling water in the grain? seriously? You do know your grain temp shouldn't exceed 165 during the rest right?

  • This guy is awesome!

  • Nice rig you got built there. You are wasting your time slowly spreading the grain out under the sprinkler. Just fill with water and stir in grains. No science to my knowledge that says a slow introduction of grain to water increases efficiency. They aren't courting each other before mating. Just slap'em together!

  • breakfast cereal :) 4:12

  • So you are using a 2 row European type barley instead of an American six row type barely?

  • You dont really have to worry about sanition at mashing since boiling the wort will sanitize it latter.

  • That which God has made we should enjoy - Cheers ! Good video Man!

  • @dstruct1442 Yep, that's what I said.

  • the guy has a fucking shower for his beer in a cooler........this is why mini breweries taste like shit.....this is also why frankenstine never caught on.......

  • @headshotgoof why does having a shower in a cooler make the beer taste like shit?

  • @headshotgoof The "shower" is essentially a sparge arm, and does nothing to effect the flavor of the beer, provided proper sanitation principles are adhered to.

  • @headshotgoof It is a pretty efficent means of sparging, in my opinion. I wish I had the setup rather than the sparging arm I am currently using. If you think mini breweries taste like shit then you haven't tasted beer from ones which know how to make beer!

  • Yeah guys, you can brew up to like 200 gals per household a year. That's a little more than 13 kegs per household.

  • @hydro4life123 To clarify, it's actually 100 gallons per individual (provided they are over 21 years of age), and limited to 200 gallons per household. So, if you're married or live with another individual over the age of 21, you can make 200 gallons.

  • Ed, How much total barley did you use?

  • To all the uneducated masses...... take your time, relax on the keyboard and do a little research....

On October 14, 1978, President Jimmy Carter signed H.R. 1337, which contained an amendment sponsored by Senator Alan Cranston creating an exemption from taxation for beer brewed at home for personal or family use. This exemption went into effect in February 1979.

  • dont take notes, but entertaining to watch

  • Real smart showing your faces guys. The fucking government is going to be all over you like flies to shit!

  • @porn1978 its not illegal to brew beer in the US. at least as long as you are under 100 gallons ( i think ).

  • @rhox1567...If that is true, then why are home brewers limited to100 gallons anyway?

  • @porn1978 Doesn't make it illegal or bad for these guys to show their faces.

Besides, the government has bigger fish to fry than worrying about some random youtubers posting their beermaking vids.

  • @saiyajingabe ...Oh of course not, but i'm saying, with all the shit thats far more important in this country, the government will screw with these guys, thinking their selling beer, making profits without them getting a slice of the pie.

  • @porn1978 That sounds like unfounded bullshit dude. I think you're a little too paranoid about your government.

You're going to honestly sit there and tell me that "government" officials are browsing YouTube to exploit citizens where they're not getting their cut...let alone those in the homebrewing market? Give me a break.

  • @saiyajingabe ....You're blowing it way out of proportion. I never said "government" officials browse peoples videos. I know uploaders who have posted certain content and were later screwed with by the government. Because you have average joes with no lives, who come on here and report shit. Now lets see if you can comprehend that concept.

  • @porn1978 Whatever man - back on topic, there's no government threat for these guys to post videos of how to brew beer - let alone show their faces while doing so.

  • @sanjaya ....You've read to much into what i previously said in my first comment. But anywho, i know what i'm talking about and all of my comments stand!

  • @porn1978

It isn't illegal to brew beer in the US!!!

  • @diver165 ...Not yet!

  • nice set up and good use of a budwiser keg LOL. i'm a novis brewer, and watching this was fun and informitive.oldschool or not,i'm sure the result was great.i'm going o try a barly wine soon.

  • umm, so why are you using boiling water in your strike? You're fermentable sugars will be fall apart causing a weak ferment. Just poor all your strike water in the cooler, add your grains slowly, simple. Get another barrel, and leave your hot liquor tank for water and one for the boil.

  • I see that you completely filled the kettle with wart. I guess it must be around 15.5 gallon since that what the keg holds. At the end you only racked two each 5 gallon carboys. I guess if the carboys are actually 6-1/2 gal then that would total 13 gallons of wort. How much boil off loss did you have? It seems that your lost a lot!

  • This hurts to watch. Firstly, why are you bringing the strike water to a boil? I hope it wasn't boiling when you put it in the tun. Also, it's easier to add all the strike water, then the grain to the tun, it just makes stirring way easier. This seems like a real oldschool way of homebrewing, lol.

  • Yes your beening recorded... Klaypidgeon

Shade tree at best!~If you want to brew in an apt or trailer park with a home depot made brewery and drink that "rouc gut" follow this crap! Go to more beer and see want us pro's use, I did... LMAO

  • sweet set up. You have made it so convenient. I am getting everything together for all grain, but for now it's malt extract brewing.

  • gypsum adjusts the acidity of the water. I like your set up.

  • I wish I had an Uncle Ed. Maybe he would like to adopt a thirsty nephew. lol

  • Thanks for the video! I love the homebrewed equipment to make the home brew!

  • your strike temp seems very high.. whats your efficiency like?

  • How did this beer turn out. I'm sure it was very nice as Ed made the whole process look very professional. I would love to see more videos.

  • The beer turned out Great! 6% alcohol. I missed out on the bottling process. One thing that Ed does is he adds a tiny bit of yeast during the bottling. That gives it better carbonation. Ed also grows his own hops. When he brews his next batch, I will video the bottling. Thanks for the comment! Cheers!

  • Very nice video.

  • I have a question....I have just been given two kegs the same size as yours that you are using to brew in, and it looks like you cut the top off of your keg there, is there a stainless steel liner in the keg or is it aluminum?

  • Entertaining video. I want to do all grain beer but I need the brew kettle for 10 gallon batches. Where can I get a Keg cheap and the parts to make one of those?.

  • Craigslist

  • Great video, very informative!! Thanks
